I amp up my hydration big time on flights even though I have combo to normal skin these days - the older I am the dryer my skin is getting oh what joy. I really love snow mushroom with hyaluronic acid serums, vit C with resveratrol serum. I then mix a honey serum with a EA ceramide serum capsule. Tiffany Vu because the windows don’t block all the UV rays! They block the UV-B (burning) rays, but not the UV-A (aging) rays. So basically, your skin won’t burn but the UV-A rays still do a lot of damage to your skin, which is why you need to protect it :)
Exactly as Vivian said👍🏼, this applies on the ground too. Just because your inside does not mean the UVA is not coming through your windows, at home, work, in the car etc. 😎

Hi, I just wanna point out that airplanes do NOT go above the ozone layer. They go very close beneath it, yes, but you’re still being protected from UV rays when on the plane; just not as much as if you were on the ground protected by clouds. It’s not completely “open” as you say, but still pretty harmful. Bottomline is, if you’re going on a plane, no matter the length of the flight or the time of day of the flight, you should always be applying and reapplying sunscreen! 😊
Is it true that pilots and other airplane staff are sometimes classified as radiation hazard workers due to the high levels of radiation that they are exposed to on a regular basis?
I know this may be extra work but when Susan does the recommendations in changing the routine, could you recommend actual products? Like when you say “hydrating toner” “vitamin c serum” can you give actual examples of good ones for that person/purpose?
Thejazzlover, totally agree! I was asking if she could give actual product recommendations like brand wise that are specific to whatever person/skin type she’s reviewing
Try korean ones for instance, one of the most hydrating toner imo is "I'm from rice toner" and for vitamin c the klairs one is so good but if u need a higher percentage of vitamin c try the wishtrend one ❤❤
It sounds intriguing for consumers. Even though most people don’t know the full deal on why spf is so great and how to properly get all of the benefits, literally everyone knows that spf protects the skin to some degree. By only having spf 20 or less companies can save money on ingredients but still gain in sales.
I am always afraid that if I use too high spf im gonna end up having no tan in my face and I live near sea so I visit beach often. Am I wrong or right? xo
THANK YOU for referencing the rebound hyperpigmentation darker skinned people can experience with glycolic acid. I'm in a skincare group and the pitchforks come out when I reference how careful we need to be with glycolic acid and it's concentrations.
@@user-bj1ez7wr7n nothing stronger than 15% unless it's an actual spa treatment and that's only on a bi weekly basis. Lactic and mandelic acids are AHAs that are gentler and less likely to cause rebound hyperpigmentation for darker skin. She was definitely rinsing the product out of her hair. Curly hair is very different than straight hair, especially 3a+. You have a lot of product in your day to keep the curls defined. She was probably careful to not get her face in the water. I've tried this before too and it's hard and maybe not ideal, but she did not take off all the product.
I think she's talking about rinsing off the conditioner and products out of her hair. I personally also have to spend at least 3-4 minutes in the shower trying to make sure all my hair products have been rinsed of my body.
The reason it is so important stick to your skincare routine morning and night is because you're not getting the most benefits out of the products if you don't apply twice daily. Certain ingredients such as certain peptides and acids are only effective for 12 hours. If you don't apply am and pm then you're really not giving your skin a fair shot at achieving the results you want. As a licensed esthetician, I recommend that everyone educate themselves properly before giving people false information.
Definitely think she needs to stop using acids for a few weeks. All of those acids AND vitamin C on the daily.... doesn't sound like a good mix. HP is treated progressively, not aggressively. Go to aggressive, and you can make it worse.
I love these videos! Susan is always so sweet to the people she reviews. Many years ago, I destroyed my skin barrier so badly from over cleansing that I ended up with rosacea. I was cringing watching this, as I felt she was also over exfoliating. I stay away from glycolic acids for my skin. I'm too paranoid about over doing it again, now that my skin is back to normal.
Sal Bolton Ugh that’s awful! Fear of that happening is why, even though Susan recommends it, I don’t double-cleanse. Although I personally don’t have it, I have a family history of psoriasis and other inflammatory skin conditions, so I’m afraid of triggering it in myself. Plus I rarely wear makeup so I don’t think a double cleanse is really necessary for me.
I would love to hear more of your thoughts on skincare for flight attendants! Specially a routine for someone with very dry skin. I would be sooooo grateful 🙏🏻
I've used to work at one as well 😅 i do not even want to know for how long those wipes have to sit in the warehouse, before they get into TJMaxx/TKMaxx.
I really love the recommended skincare routine at the end. I learn so much more! Unforunately, it's a double-edged sword. The more info I get, my shopping list gets longer! Hahahuhu
I really enjoyed this reaction compared to the celebrity ones! It’s nice to see the common woman’s routine. And I love that you gave her recommendations since a flight attendant has such a different environment! My 28th birthday is a week away and you have changed my skincare game Susan💕I wish I found you sooner!
I think she kept her face out of the shower. She was rinsing/conditioning her hair and probably washing her body. Could be hard though. I never wash my face in the morning. I just use some gentle hydrating toner on a cotton pad to get any product or oils off st a surface level to apply more.
Okay now that I’m not hyperventilating thank you so much for these videos-literally life changing as I’ve learned so much and my skin has really benefited!
Very insightful to watch Arnesah's video and then yours. I'm also Cabin Crew (Indian) but with DRY/NORMAL skin. Often I cheat and skip a really good skincare routine because I'm exhausted after all my flights, but now at 40+yrs, I really need to up my game again......I'd be super intrigued to know what are my essential products....
I was literally just thinking this evening “I wish Susan would do a skincare routine critique. Feels like we are due to see one right about now .” And poof - there it is. 🙌🏼🙏🏻😉
This was terrific! I love hearing the changes you suggest and why. Always so educational!! ( and congratulations if you've had your baby girl by now. )🍼👶🏽💝
They did a "how it's made" on glow recipe items and apparently the watermelon smell is because they use actual watermelons in the recipe. I don't know if they add fragrance on top of that but yeah... apparently they use avocados in their avocado range too.
Thank you so much for this video, as a flight attendant which is starting to discover the skincare world this video has been the most informative and gave me a bit of direction towards achieving my skincare goals while flying. Thank you so much. God bless you!
Great reaction video! One thing about glycolic acid- I asked my esthetician, and she says that the only concern for causing hyperpigmentation in darker tones applies to high concentrations found in peels and products not available directly to consumers. Caroline Hirons also just addressed this in her video with Dija Ayodele. It's super helpful to know this, as I avoided it for a long time because of this concern. :)
Hi Susan!!! Can you do a video on how to add in new products into your skincare routine?? Especially serums?? I just recently bought a few new kbeauty skincare stuff and I’m just wondering if I’m adding it all into my routine right! I’m trying to add one or two slowly at a time so my skin can get used to it! Thank you so much for these videos. I feel like I’ve learned so much ever since I started watching your videos!! ❤️❤️
Can you do a video on deodorants? I completely avoid aluminum-containing products so I have tried a few “natural” alternatives and no luck so far. -Tom’s : smells worse than sweat IMO -Schmidt?: doesn’t work, leaves colored residue. What is your professional opinion?
that's just not true. spf 15 filters out about 93% of UVB radiation, spf 30 filters out 96% and spf 50 98%. and if we want to know how much of UVA radiation gets filtered out, we need to know the ppd number of the sunscreen. window glass blocks about 60% of UVB radiation, and allows almost all UVA radiation through. so that's totally not the same :D
All your points are interesting and makes me wonder what is correct! I was passing on advice from a friend who works at a skin cancer foundation so 🤷🏻♀️ Perhaps @susanyara can enlighten us 😆
So glad you did this one as I am a flight attendant. The hardest part for me is worrying about reapplying SPF on the plane. I always wear it before a flight (thanks to you!) but it's during the day flights that I worry about it. Thanks for all the tips!
Last I checked, the Mario Badescu Glycolic Acid Toner only had 2% AHA and I’ve also seen a few comments saying the PH is too high. I think the cleanser has a small amount too plus AHAs are water soluble and very ineffective in a wash off product like that. Because of this, I’m not overly concerned about the AHA in her routine though I think physical exfoliation daily with a brush is too much. I’m more worried about some of the essential oils, sulfates, and other irritants in her routine.
Serious question: Why are makeup wipes and using wash clothes bad because of skin tugging but those skin cleansing brushes are better? I don't understand. I would think the brushes are harsher. I feel like the brushes are scratching me up and my skin gets very red when i use them. I have combination skin and no hyperpigmentation (believe it or not) and i use wash clothes and makeup wipes religiously. Help me make it make sense. Im very confused and i don't want to mess up my skin if I'm truly doing it wrong but I've seen no negative effects.
@@dominiquedonnell7192 Rina is right. There are several factors I don't like with makeup wipes--people tend to tug hard, they smear your makeup around instead of removing it, and a lot of them leave harsh preservatives and surfactants on your skin. I think a wash cloth is fine if it's just warm water and you're gentle. If you say the brush makes your skin red, stop using it. You don't have hyperpigmentation now, but you're causing inflammation and that eventually leads to hyperpigmentation. Save your skin while you don't have it!
Omg I’ve been waiting for this!! Coming from a flight attendant I needed you to make this video like forever ago. Lol make more! Haha I need more tips for FA’s. 🙏🏻💕
Regarding the comment about being unsure if hydrating cleansers are good for reactive/acne/oily skin: I have oily/combination acneic and reactive skin and I use a hydrating cleanser along with an oil cleanser as first step. Using hydrating/gentle cleansers really reduced my acne and oil production, which was aggravated by using stripping cleansers for acne for years. Harsh cleansers marketed to my acneic skin type dehydrated my skin and wore away my natural skin barrier which actually made my acne worse. Hydrating cleansers are the way to go! After my oil cleanser (at night only to take off spf) I switch between Krave moisturizing cleanser and CeraVe renewing salicylic acid cleanser depending on whether I need more moisture/gentle treatment, or if I see any congestion. Both cleansers are extremely gentle, even though the CeraVe has salicylic acid. I also let 10% benzoyl peroxide cream cleanser sit for a few minutes as a spot treatment on acne spots while I'm cleansing, but I never apply it all over my face like I used to. Also seconding the comment about CeraVe moisturizing cream - it really is amazing on reactive skin! I can't recommend it highly enough for reactive, acneic, sensitive, combination skin. I actually use it both night and morning and used to be totally scared that a thick cream like that would break me out. Instead it helps my skin stay healthy and moisturized and I get less acne. Don't be afraid, try it out!
What kind of ingredients would you recommend for people with extremely sensitive and rosacea prone skin?? Im specially interested in serums ,is vit c serum ok to use?? or would you reccomend HA serum?? Can you guys please give me any advice ??
MakeupWhileTheSunShines - It’s not that you can’t use glycolic acid, but it has the smallest molecule of the AHAs, so you have to be more cautious with it. I would prefer you start with AHAs like lactic acid and mandelic acid which have larger molecules, then work your way up. 👍
I think mandelic and lactic are supposed to be our better options. I don't use glycolic beyond like 10% because it just makes me itch. Didn't have any issues with rebound hyperpigmentation personally
Susan, please review Stephanie Nicole’s night time and/or day time skin routine. I know she does long thorough videos, but maybe u can fast forward thru it ?
I use the supergroup SPF powder to reapply throughout the day and their regular cream SPF before I put on makeup. I also use olehenriksen truth serum for vitamin c. Mealove also has a good vitamin c (glow maker) and it's a lot cheaper.
I love these series! Could you do a skin care make over? Example redo the flight attendant skin care routine and see how it works compare what she use to do.
I'm gonna defend wipes one time because I'm becoming annoyed you don't seem to believe there is a situation where they're a good choice. Depression though. When my depression is peak, I don't get up and do a full skin routine. If I swipe some stuff off my face, it might actually be a win that day. (I don't use wipes anymore though. Microfiber reusable cotton rounds and micellar water or toner or whatever is within reach)
Hi Susan! What is a good silicone free primer and vitamin c serum to use in the AM? I have oily skin living in south GA (very humid). I work indoors but walk to work. I don't wear makeup to work but I do use the Fenty primer after skincare to keep from getting shiny. AM routine: sephora glycolic pads, thayers rose toner, Pacifica essence, haldi eyes, neutrogena spf 35 moisturizer, fenty primer, milani setting spray.
Loooove these videos!! but I do want to point out that SPF on flights is as important as SPF is on an everyday basis. The ozone layer doesn't get "thinner" as you rise in altitude. Ozone exists mostly in the stratosphere, and on commercial flights, we are still in the troposphere. So the ozone layer is still above us to protect us from UV rays.
And agreed, SPF is important on regular days too, but from talking to people, they seem to think they don't need an SPF on an airplane since they're "inside" but they do need it and maybe even more.
You were talking about not need a more rich moisturizer unless you are in a plane or live in a desert. Can you give some suggestions for a skin routine and some products for people who live in hot desert climates? Just a good simple routine maybe with more inexpensive products if at all possible. I feel like this would be a great video for all the people who live in the desert and are looking for a good skin routine to start with.
Aaaah!!! Thank you! thank you for putting this very honest review! I've been a flight attendant for a very long time and I also noticed that many of these younger "skincare savvy" flight attendants, I'm looking at you younger millennials lol They have a shitload of skincare and a shitload of skin dilemmas as well, lol. I only have four things in my bag, my Kiehls calendula toner to wash my face in the morning, CERAVE moisturizer, mineral sunscreen spf 45, and a concealer. Oh that Mario Badescu spray fragrant spray, I do use it but as an air freshener in the lavatory, lol Arnesah got an amazing young skin and she don't need all these nonsense skincare on flight.
Hmm! Never really thought much of what a makeup wipe might be doing to my skin. I like them to just get off initial makeup off and because it keeps my sink & shower from getting my rinsed foundation all over. Might consider going to a cleansing oil though! (Used to use a cleansing balm, but I don't like getting into the jar... Seems very gross after a while.)
Omg I'm so glad you mentioned La Roche Posay, their products have changed my life. I always thought my skin was super oily until I started using the Toleriane? (probably not spelling that right) line, and realized my skin was just irritated with the other products I was using.
I have medium dark skin mac NC47 for ref and have found that glycolic acid makes my hyperpigmentation worse and I have had to ditch it. Be careful with glycolic acid WOC.
Can you please please do a pre-flight and post-flight skin care routine. Like when we should prep our skin and what we should do and when we get to the hotel how we should approach our skincare post-flight. I'm a little confused in terms of in-flight routine as some flights I take are about 13-16 hours long, does that mean I should not do anything to my skin till the end of the flight??
You said you don't love mineral oil in creams for acne prone skin so I'm wondering why mineral oil is used as a base ingredient in prescription retinoids so often? Do you think it's OK and an exception to the rule for acne prone skin to use a mineral oil based retinoid?
@@AmandaLeighS yes but the gel formulations are notoriously drying and I've always heard they're not recommended by dermatologists for most skin types.
In terms of makeup wipes I think ones that are drenched in product are the best because you don't need to tug at your skin as much. For this reason I dislike the neutrogena wipes, especially towards the end of the pack they get dried up. Costo brand wipes are amazing though, super wet!
Hey Susan, do you recommend the OLEHENRIKSEN Power Peel™ Transforming Facial System? It comes with a scrub for step one and I'm actually highly concerned this is bad for the face. I've found no bad reviews about it.

Yes, being too aggressive is one of the main issues!
@Miss Steele Yeah I’ve learned a lot since I wrote that comment. I double cleanse when I feel like I need it.
I would love to hear more of your thoughts on skincare for flight attendants! Specially a routine for someone with very dry skin. I would be sooooo grateful 🙏🏻
I work at tjmaxx and everytime I see someone buy makeup wipes I wanna yell at them!!!!! 😂😂
Hahaha! That would freak them out (but I would find it hilarious obviously).
I use them sometimes after a gym session but wash my face after
I've used to work at one as well 😅 i do not even want to know for how long those wipes have to sit in the warehouse, before they get into TJMaxx/TKMaxx.
Rebecca Galvan I use them to take the majority of the makeup off so I don’t have to work as hard and ruin towels
Rebecca Galvan did you know it actually takes 100 years for a makeup wipe to go away for good?
I think she was talking about rinsing the product out of her hair. Because she was talking about co-washing.
I really love the recommended skincare routine at the end. I learn so much more! Unforunately, it's a double-edged sword. The more info I get, my shopping list gets longer! Hahahuhu
Liv Tyler just released her skincare routine!!
A vid on fragrance free products pllz
James Welsh just uploaded a video on his channel about that..
Yes!!
The brand Cerave is amazing. Recommended by derm, cheap and mostly without frangrance
A video review on the whole collection of neutrogenas hydro boost please!! really want a break down i enjoy some of the products but not all of them.
The video is out of order, she showered before & the editing put it out of order. If you notice her hair was done before she started makeup
Okay now that I’m not hyperventilating thank you so much for these videos-literally life changing as I’ve learned so much and my skin has really benefited!
Susan, you are the most gorgeous, classy and knowledgeable person on RUclips!! You obsess over the same details skin care nerds do! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
She is good but not that knowledgeable, she didn't say anything about those awful Mario badescu products
everytime i see your videos, i’m just in awe of your knowledge and beauty! 😍
THANK YOU SO MUCH ON BEHALF OF ALL THE FLIGHT ATTENDANTS ACROSS THE GLOBE
Very insightful to watch Arnesah's video and then yours. I'm also Cabin Crew (Indian) but with DRY/NORMAL skin. Often I cheat and skip a really good skincare routine because I'm exhausted after all my flights, but now at 40+yrs, I really need to up my game again......I'd be super intrigued to know what are my essential products....
I was literally just thinking this evening “I wish Susan would do a skincare routine critique. Feels like we are due to see one right about now .” And poof - there it is. 🙌🏼🙏🏻😉
Incredible indepth video Susan. I’m learning so so much !
This was terrific! I love hearing the changes you suggest and why. Always so educational!!
( and congratulations if you've had your baby girl by now. )🍼👶🏽💝
Using a glycolic acid toner at night has helped my hyperpigmentation. But she is right I wouldn't use it in the morning.
They did a "how it's made" on glow recipe items and apparently the watermelon smell is because they use actual watermelons in the recipe. I don't know if they add fragrance on top of that but yeah... apparently they use avocados in their avocado range too.
I saw that and I appreciate their brand so much more.
You should react to instagram skincare videos!!!!
Short and Nerdy lmao she would hate them
Iamarielle thats the point hahahaha
It's a good point! It's the overuse that can be damaging.
Omg I just adore Susan's face every time someone uses make up wipes😂
She was talking about her hair when she began to discuss co-washing and hotels having shampoos and conditioners without sulfates.
Thank you for creating 4 routines!!! This is a lifesaver for those of us who fly often!
Please make a video about Kiehl's products ! especially ''midninght recovery'' it's my favorite ! :) Love your work xo
I love you so much Susan! Always and forever ♾!❤️
Love your videos! I am 20 years old and I've only started to be aware of skincare now.
could you please do an updated skincare routine please, am dying . to know how you get your flawless skin
There's few things I enjoy more than seeing Susan's reaction after she sees someone pull out makeup wipes 🤣
when i hear flight attendant and skincare, i immediately think of mj!
this was super informative xx
Your makeup looks beautiful Susan!
Thank you!
LOL i LOVE that she redid her whole morning and night routine.
Susan, can you do a "Best of..." for each step in a skincare routine?
Can you do a video on deodorants? I completely avoid aluminum-containing products so I have tried a few “natural” alternatives and no luck so far.
-Tom’s : smells worse than sweat IMO
-Schmidt?: doesn’t work, leaves colored residue.
What is your professional opinion?
Omg yess about toms. It works but the smell is 5 times worse than BO eeeek
Every man jack in orange scent but you have to reapply.
Shar Roon thanks I’ll try that one next :)
NATIVE deodorant is the best aluminum free deodorant.
I think mineral oil is best, it just sits on the skin so it would help lock in that moisture and help prevent trans epidermal water loss.
Thank you for this video, I really enjoyed. And thank you so much for mentioning SPF because yes we need it to even if we're going close to the sun.
SPF15 is equivalent sun protection to standing behind a window. Go for 30 or even better 50 ladies !!
Spf means nothing when it comes to that it just means how long the protection will last
Although the SPF number is important, the point is how many times the SPF is applied during the day.🤔
that's just not true. spf 15 filters out about 93% of UVB radiation, spf 30 filters out 96% and spf 50 98%. and if we want to know how much of UVA radiation gets filtered out, we need to know the ppd number of the sunscreen.
window glass blocks about 60% of UVB radiation, and allows almost all UVA radiation through. so that's totally not the same :D
@@sv-bd5em Nope, most SPFs only last 40 to 80 minutes.
All your points are interesting and makes me wonder what is correct! I was passing on advice from a friend who works at a skin cancer foundation so 🤷🏻♀️ Perhaps @susanyara can enlighten us 😆
Well... this was amazing! I learned so much!! Thank you, Susan!!! 💖💋
Oh man, I'd love for Susan to review my routine. I'd love to know if the numerous steps I do are actually worth it, or if I'm wasting my money.
honestly, what made me a subscriber of this channel is Ms.Yara's reaction when she sees a makeup wipe :D
The spf was 15. Eke. Idk. That’s waaaaay too low imo. She’s a cutie patootie. I always use 50. No matter what.
Im very confused and i don't want to mess up my skin if I'm truly doing it wrong but I've seen no negative effects.
cleansing brushes are more “skin deep cleaning” where as makeup wipes kind of of just rub your makeup around. both are bad for your face.
Thanks! 😀
Regarding the comment about being unsure if hydrating cleansers are good for reactive/acne/oily skin:
I have oily/combination acneic and reactive skin and I use a hydrating cleanser along with an oil cleanser as first step.
Can you please do lots of the allure videos? It’s awesome to see celebrity skincare but it’s also nice to see what other people days are like
What kind of ingredients would you recommend for people with extremely sensitive and rosacea prone skin?? Im specially interested in serums ,is vit c serum ok to use?? or would you reccomend HA serum?? Can you guys please give me any advice ??
Hey Susan, if not glycolic acid, what type of acid should darker skin tones use? Thankyou :)
Anastasia’s routine!!!! Pleeaaaasssseee!
I’d love to see your take on a skin care routine for mature skin.
Susan, please review Stephanie Nicole’s night time and/or day time skin routine. I know she does long thorough videos, but maybe u can fast forward thru it ?
Hi! I use a SA wash by la roche posay everyday and a pumpkin exfoliating masque with glycolic acid maybe 2-3 times a week. It that too abrasive?
Susan! Do you have any recommendations for Vitamin C serums and spray/powder SPFs?
Nana Abena Tarte makes a great SPF Powder and Ole Hendrickson has an amazing vitamin C serum x
Its technically not a serum but I'm a big fan of Melano CC Essence!
I use the supergroup SPF powder to reapply throughout the day and their regular cream SPF before I put on makeup. I also use olehenriksen truth serum for vitamin c. Mealove also has a good vitamin c (glow maker) and it's a lot cheaper.
Supergoop; I hate autocorrect
@@hilarynwonuma3508 thanks for the recommendation on powder spf 🤗 it's so hard to find a good one with no white cast thats affordable
I'm so happy Susan is finally recommending fragrance-free products
My skin does best when i don't wash my face in the morning. So definitely not crazy to me. I'm combo skin. Love your vids.
Most commercial flights fly in the lower part of the stratosphere. I didn't make that up. ;)
Farmacy cleansing balm is 🔥🔥🔥 I love it
Aaaah!!! Thank you! thank you for putting this very honest review!
Jackie Supernova It can! It’s always good to be aware. It’s because it has smaller molecules than other AHAs.
What is a better alternative then?
Is it also bad if I put micellar water on a cotton pad and swipe my make up of with that? ( because you said make up wipes are not good)
Thank you for making this content! I really need this FA skincare routine🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Leah Lopes Mineral Oil is not in the gel version of Tretinoin. It may be used in the cream version, it’s a cheap way to add slip to the cream
That PTR cleanser she uses is a gel cleanser and it’s lovely. I notice a difference when I use it.
CeraVe moisturizing cream is my favorite 🙌🏼 Vanicream moisturizing cream is another good one but I don't like that it has petrolatum.
Hey Susan, do you recommend the OLEHENRIKSEN
Power Peel™ Transforming Facial System? It comes with a scrub for step one and I'm actually highly concerned this is bad for the face. I've found no bad reviews about it.
