  • Jabba chats Mums, movies and Thunderbolts with "Rising Stars" Geraldine Viswanathan & Margaret Qualley for Drive-Away Dolls. Recorded Thursday February 15, 2024.
Jabba: Margaret and Geraldine. Great to have you on the show. Thank you for Drive Away Dolls. My goodness. I needed to laugh and the pair of you hit the spot. What an absolutely banging movie.
Geraldine: So, so glad, so glad we gave you a laugh.
    Margaret: That’s awesome.
Jabba: A lot of laughs. Geraldine, is this the kind of film people can take their mums to?
Geraldine: How cool and chill are these moms? I'm definitely a bit, I'm with my family kind of going, brace yourselves. There's some scenes that you might want to just duck out and go to the bathroom or get some popcorn or something. It's not for the faint of heart, but just get behind it.
Margaret: I feel fine about my parents seeing this one.
    Geraldine: Okay.
Margaret: I feel great about it actually.
Geraldine: Definitely. This isn't the worst. I feel good about it. Yeah.
    Margaret: Show up.
Geraldine: Bring your mom and your grandma.
Jabba: Okay. Has your mom seen it, Margaret?
Margaret: No, but she's going to come actually. She's going to come. Both of my parents are going to come. Both the first time in my life. Both my parents are coming into a premiere. Wow,
    Geraldine: That's exciting.
Jabba: That is huge. Did you guys bond while filming the movie that both your moms can act?
    Geraldine: Yes. Yeah, we did.
    Margaret: We did actually. Yeah.
    Geraldine: Totally.
Jabba: Did they have any tips for this movie that you guys shared with each other?
Geraldine: We love our moms. I think they help and guide us in ways that we can't even explain.
Margaret: All of a sudden, I think day by day I look down. I see my mother. You know what I mean? You'll laugh. You stand up, you're just like, gosh, it's happening.
So that was the advice I guess was just, it was internal. It was coming naturally through.
Jabba: Margaret, you have acted with your mum (in Maid), Geraldine. Is that on the cards for you? Maybe get her a roll on Thunderbolts.
Geraldine: It's kind of a dream of mine to make something with my mum. She's such a character and just a complete gem. I think I need to find some kind of vehicle for her. I feel it'll happen. I just want to make sure that she's able to kind of dance. My mom is a beautiful kind of just like free. She does this thing called sand dancing. She gets in the sand on the beach and just rolls around and I'm just like, we need to use this.
Margaret: I want to see that.
    Geraldine: I'll Show you videos.
    Margaret: Sounds beautiful.
Jabba: Rising Star is something that you're both tagged with. What's the next step from Rising Star? Margot Robbie?
Geraldine: Ooh. Yeah. Australian. She has risen.
    Margaret: I'd say.
Geraldine: Yeah. We hope to be Margot Robbie.
Margaret: We're just going for Margot
Jabba: Were there any new behaviors that you guys picked up to play Jamie or Marian in this film?
Geraldine: Yeah. I think I've been reading more.
Margaret: To play Jamie, A fun thing to do is to check out the ladies as lady, to check out other ladies. Usually you do it in a bit more of like, which is not even the nicest. And it was a fun trait to play. It was a goal, if you will. Is that an answer? Is that what you're going for? Is that what you wanted me to say?
Jabba: Yeah. And what about for Marian?
Geraldine: For Marian, I think, I just think, yeah, in the scrip is described as zipped up, so I think I just kind of took on a better posture and just a little bit Stick up the, yeah,
Jabba: The Wazoo. Well guys, you are lightning in a bottle. The pair of you. So we look forward to seeing what you do next. And thanks for chatting to us. Great to see you.
    Geraldine: You're very sweet.
    Margaret: Thank you very much.
