The problem with United is consistency. It happened last season where they would play a disappointing first half only to salvage something from the second. Top teams play with consistency week in and week out and at the moment United doesn't look like one.

I'd like to see Mount moved wide right and Antony moved to Spain, or Italy or anywhere. It's nice that he chases back but it's not really his primary role. Garnacho should be back on the bench, the team loses too much by not having Rashford on the left, even if it means putting Sancho or Martial through the middle till the new guy is ready.

      @CharlesOffdensen Год назад +14

I can tell you what is happening in Borussia Dortmund for example, who have similar problem. And it's been the same for 10 years. In the 2019 season they were leading Bayern with 9 points, go to Nurnberg and play 0:0 draw, not even trying to play. Later, Dortmund are still in front of Bayern, and play Bremen. Dortmund are leading 2:0 and just stop. Bremen score twice, and the title is lost. This happened last year as well.
The reason is the boss Watzke. He buys Bayern's failures (like Rode and Sabitzer) and lets his best players (like Guerreiro) to go Bayern for free. The boss is a serial loser, so the whole team plays like that. Also, the whole team is made up of loser. The overhaul doesn't help. Because when a player with a drive comes in, he is disliked and dismissed by the losers already in the team (like Bellingham for example). But again, when the president has a loser mentality, so will the players.
I've got a feeling something similar is happening in United. And yes, the players show loser mentality. Look at Bruno. Yes, he runs a bit, and then just stops and starts talking to his teammates. This is not a hard working player. Maybe he appears to be, but he is not. He shows lack of character, professionalism, work ethic, and a drive to win.

Fr. Mount and Antony have been getting a ridiculous amount of hate. Both do need to improve, but they are absolutely not the reasons for why we are struggling. Mount has actually been pretty good for the most part imo. Our fanbase is the worst in the world for supporting our players, it’s embarrassing. I agree with everything said in this video, but I do also think that ETH has got it tactically wrong as well. For example, the amount we are giving the ball away from being TOO direct, leading to us being awful in possession. The way our chances are created, we are way too reliant on Bruno, and no one else is creating anything. We are giving away way too many chances and look incredibly open. That was even the case in the first minute of this game, and it continued in the first and second half. There’s more than just this, but I will say that the lack of intensity/poor attitude/lack of fitness is the most worrying thing of it all, whatever the reason for it is.

Antony should have atleast tested GK with that first shot over Bar if he is so one footed not to say burying his second chance and for Mount just watch Bissouma who just dropped shoulder and off he go forward.
I agree Mount and Antony getting more criticism but it's not unfair especially for Antony. Everyone has figured out he is one trick pony going to cut and shoot even that is not good. People are calling out Ten Hag for favouritism which is not wrong. Also fitness levels of these players are abysmal and as usual Bruno is getting slagged for being foreign player. Can’t give lack of running as a reason to bench Anthony. Just in this analysis alone you see that he has no problem with full-speed defensive runs. It’s just his defensive intelligence that needs to be worked on, like when he made it to the edge of the penalty box and stopped running. That was more to do with not knowing what to do than just being too lazy.

I think last season, ten Hag had a lot of success by sacrificing some of his own play style to cater for the players he inherited who couldn't play in that style. This season there's been a notable change in emphasis to being much higher up the pitch, with the idea of being camped in the other team's half and keeping the ball. Even though he clearly thinks he now has the players to execute this, there is bound to be some pain as those players have to get used to it.

Nice review. But I think that attitude problem is part of stamina, part of confidence. Players weren't believe this new tactic is going to work. Because it's unlikely to see Mount successes on No.8 and Casemiro, Varane pushing up high will work, they're 30+ now, they just don't have that pace. If you're going to play mad dog pushing up high tactic, it has to be a bunch of young, energetic, aggressive and strong players. Well, I think most of United players are not physically above PL average level. That's why Erik ten Hag wants some muscles in this transfer window. But the club failed to sell required players yet. Which comes to a problem, United were using their own profit to buy players, Glazers didn't put in a penny since they acquired the club.

Think that's a very fair assessment. Been disappointed with individual performances, and the overall fitness levels of the team. Think there needs to be a change of personnel up front and positional changes/responsibilities. Clear from general play that we lack a striker and we're a midfielder or two short currently.

Top top video! Of course the result will tower that we have form. We have useful plays. We lack finishing, and even if we have intensity the small-part consistency for every run, for tracking every pass, run or player, on and off the ball, we get punished when we switch off.

Like everything over the last 10 years though , ultimately the issues at united come from higher up. The lack of passion and really caring start above and seep down.
With management (not Ten Hag but above) that care , and have passion and truly want to win , i think we see this team click ... we all keep looking at individual players and signings but i do not think that is the issue anymore ... sure a CF gets us a few more goals , but the problems at Ol Trafford are more institutional ... look at how we have bodged the handling of De Gea , Maguire , Greenwood ... the business side is sorely lacking

Again a great insightful unbiased analysis. Actually I worry more for Man U after this. Ten Hag did an amazing job last year getting them to 3rd when we all thought their problems would take years to fix. But some of the underlying problems clearly haven't gone away. Can the players adapt, or will they buy in to the new system? It seems a bit reminiscent of Solskjaer, good start but then things gradually went wrong. An underlying long-term malaise in the dressing-room? From what, or whom?

  • @bythecliff

Casemiro at RMA played with two central midfielders who helped out defensively but both Mount and Fernandes are purely attacking midfielders. Other teams that play with purely attacking 8s, like City and Arsenal, usually support the pivot with a defender. United is neither inverting a defender nor playing with central midfielders.

@@Spuzzellthe video ignores a lot of stats.
For example the "defensively excellent Mount" had half as many interceptions as Fred despite playing 5 more games.
Bruno has good defensive stats due to pressing high, not defending deeper, or more importantly defending in transition, where him and mount are poor.

So in my simple conclusion, we have a better coach but he hasn't got the best players he requires to get the job done properly.

Another problem with United not just this season but a couple of seasons running has been their mental strength, basically they start games guns blazing and if things don't go their way early in the game they don't score, they lose focus as the game progresses, it seemed last season alot of times they were overcoming that block at times but it's looking now like it's all coming back

Finally someone who saw the real issue, the patterns were well set by the team on the pitch, but the drop in energy was evident, and more than a demoralised loss of energy, it looked more like empty tanks, ten Hag a reputation of knackered looking starts for seasons with how intense gisbpre seasons are, not sure if that's the case, still you cannot play with this intensity when you know your team isn't completely ready fitness wise.and expose your 6 all alone. Anyway, as long as ten Hag is using his multicolour pen, I'm sur he'll fix things

The only thing they need to fix is getting a top class goal scorer. The rest is crap. They could have Real Madrid's midfield of Modric, Kroos and Casemiro and they still would have problems...........cause they can't score. Fernandes would still suck at finishing in the big moments, Antony would still hit goal posts and Rashford may or may not score. I mean all this tactical analysis stuff, look at it this way.......don't we think Ten Hag knows more about his tactics that we do? So all this stuff is like.....maybe Erik should ask the fans and the pundit Channels what the problems are and how to fix them. Just get a consistent top goal scorer for crissake

Liked & Subscribed. This breakdown is pretty impressive. Getting to see that it's not all going wrong, neither are they clueless. What I am concerned about though is chance creation outside of the press, can Utd play from the back as has been highlighted, and also ball retention is a bit of a worry at this point in time. I feel they need to be able to better keep possession, to control the game better, as well as creating openings, and not forcing the long ball over the defence all the time.

I think the lack of intensity is because most players got frustrated by the fact that the first half chances were not finished by Anthony, Bruno, Garnacho and Rashford. All four were absolute shit. The morale goes down in a football match when you see your forwards wasting golden chances. To be a winning team a striker is not the only one who should score. Wingers midfielders need to contribute. And that does not happen a lot at Man Utd since last season.
