  • Episode 583. I picked each of these up on a deep discount, were they worth it? Well, let's just talk whiskey, not price. This Texas whiskey is aged in Spanish Oak and American Oak, while the 1792 is a classic, high rye bourbon. They are different, but both more savory than fruity. Have you had either? #rebbecacreek #1792 #whiskyneighbour

I just finished a bottle of 1792. I like it in an old fashion.

The whole reason I began to watch whisk(e)y reviews was to avoid spending hard earned money on something that just wasn't worth it. Doing the research is necessary, though there have been a few times where I've made impulse buys. That's always a crapshoot. A couple of those purchases were phenomenal, others were total disappointments.
I value honesty above all else when it comes to consumer information, and have no interest in supporting any reference venue that is supplying incorrect data. Not everything is lovely and wonderful, and that is a simple fact.
I fully appreciate that you speak the truth when it comes to your opinion about the products you're testing. It has certainly prevented me, more than once, from wasting limited resources on something I will not enjoy.
Such a shame that neither of these were great picks, considering the prices were decent. Fortunately, that seems to be more the exception than the rule. I agree about the on-offer pricing difference, you have to wonder what the heck is going on with that.
I hope your week is ticking along wonderfully. We were in Hamilton for the total eclipse yesterday. It was utterly extraordinary. The temperature dropped over 10°, it went fully dark, the solar lights all came on in our friend's yard. We could see actual red solar flares when the moon was fully covering. Just before the moon began to clear the Sun, the few clouds that were there lit up like a rainbow. I've never seen one before, and will likely not see another. So very glad we made the effort.
    Cheers, my friend! 🥃

Thank you for the kinds words and for sharing your Eclipse experience. That sounds truely once-in-a-life time! The darkness and the temperature drop would have been wild, then the rainbow!! Amazing! I got my group outside to watch the 23%, but nothing like that. So cool!

Blind purchases on deep discount are sometimes lottery tickets. Sounds like this one didn't pay off. Ive never had anything from Rebecca Creek but I'll be avoiding this one. Sorry you took the hit on this one but very thankful for the warning Jon. Cheers neighbour 🥃

As soon as I noticed the price, I had to bring it home. Just so dissapointing. That said, maybe peopld say Rebecca Creek makes exceptional Bourbon so ... I'll give them another go if I can. Maybe look for a sample. Cheers!

Second sips are indeed almost always better, but when they're not ... uh-oh! A horrible sign every time for me. Thanks for the review and comparison!

Thanks for the honest thoughts on Rebecca Creek. In Ontario we don’t get too many clear out deals but when they do, it’s usually a dice roll. I must really try some more bourbons and start building the collection. Thanks for thoughts and opinions on pricing and sales. Cheers.

Great reviews, Jon. I've never had any Rebecca Creek but I've held their Cask Strength Spanish Oak in my hands but never bought it as I'm usually not a huge finished American whiskey fan. May look for it at a bar and try it if priced right
1792 I generally like and I have expressions of their BiB, FP and a regular proof Single Barrel open at the moment. I do like the Small Batch - especially as a final pour for the night after a few bruisers.
    Have a great weekend!

So many people love Rebecca Creek. Especially the cask strength. It must be much, much better than this one. Glad you enjoy 1792, I do love their FP

We never see these massive price drops with gov liquor stores. I tend to have a pattern of knowing what I am looking for and if it happens to be on sale I’m excited! The first Bourbon you tried sounds awful. Yikes! Definitely good to know! I don’t think I have seen this Bourbon on our shelves. The 1792 has been okay at times. I tend to use it as a mixer for cocktails and it can be pretty good! Great video Jon! Have an awesome weekend and I suggest pulling out some nice peated scotch and enjoying a couple of delicious drams!! Cheers!

" It's not a drain pour." 😂 Few, well, I guess it has that going for, haha. The 1792 is enjoyable but definitely usally overpriced here.

Rebecca Creek spanish oak cask strength is as good as it gets. The 80 proof version is terrible.

Odd that they are so different. I really do not like the 80 proof version. Sadly. Thanks for letting me know about the Cask Strength.
