  • Episode 585. Thanks to Andy, I have both the Origianl and Gold of Blanton's Single Barrel Bourbon. Have you had these? Do you have a preferrance? Certainly the Gold comes with a higher price tag, but if the flavor comes through, it will be worth it. #blantons #bourbon #whiskyneighbour

Thanks for sharing another bourbon sample video. I find these very helpful in trying to identify brand and expressions that I would enjoy based on your notes. I’ll be on the lookout for the Original though I may need to head south to get it. Thanks Jon.

As a Single Barrel , they vary. This one was spot on!

An unfortunate mix up the first time round but these are definitely right! I found the single barrel store pick and the gold to be fairly similar. I would say the gold has a greater range and more flavors to explore and tease out. As you know I’m not the biggest bourbon fan, but both of these are very nice and easy drinking. I can’t remember if I mentioned it but I have an unopened original in the cupboard. I think we’ll have to find time this summer to do a blind A/B/C with the original, original single barrel, and gold! So glad you enjoyed these. I’m off to Texas this week and planning on bringing back some bottles we can’t buy up here!

Both sound intriguing, for different reasons. Start with the easy sipper, wind up the evening with something more introspective.
I understand this is a hard brand to find, due to demand. I've occasionally seen a bottle on a bar (the topper is distinctive), but haven't tried it.
I have 8 bourbons on hand, and they go down pretty slowly. Woodford Double Oaked, WT 101, and Four Roses SB are the shoe-ins for favourites. I can honestly say that once any of the others wind up in the recycling bin, I likely won't be buying more.
None of which means that I don't thoroughly enjoy hearing what each one brings to the table!
Might get the back yard fire pit up and running tonight for the first time this season. A nice bourbon sounds just the ticket to go with it...
    Cheers! 🥃🥃

Bourbon does pair well with a fire! Glad it is still enjoyable to hear about them too. Cheers!

Thanks for this great comparison Jon! I've only had Blantons a handful of times. It seems like a fine enoygh Bourbon but not something I'm going to pay much over retail for. Which means those who really are in love with it can scoop it up! Cheers Neighbour 🥃

I agree Matt. I have enjoyed some Blanton’s but I would only pay so much for it. There are Scotch expressions I will absolutely go to the mat for if it’s special and pay a high price but I wouldn’t do that for Blanton’s! That leaves more for the people who love it!

@christinecamley I agree with both of you! Which is why I have not picked one up. That said, this regular release was very good!

@@WhiskyNeighbour Hi Jon!! I am so happy that you enjoyed this Blanton's regular release sample! I could tell you were loving it! Wonderful and well deserved! I hope it's a lovely day in your neck of the woods! I am at a conference in Calgary next week so I am hoping there is no 'surprise' snow! Lol! Cheers! 🙂

@@christinecamley Lol! Yep, Calgary is known for random snow. It's nice today, but dipping down into snow territory this week. Should be good by next weekend, but 🤷‍♂ Take care!

Higher proof doesn't always win. The first one was a better barrel for you... I can't even find Blanton's and I'd actually pay $150 for a bottle. I do like the E.H. Taylor a little better but I can't find it either. I drink Buffalo Trace regularly though and really enjoy it.

I was surprised how much I enjoyed the first barrel. It was better for me! I better go get one. Thanks, cheers!
