Very cool! I use MSR's Seagull Stainless steel nesting pot set, a Folding Firebox nano and a Trangia alcohol burner, it packs down small, and the fuel despite the longer cook times lasts me 2 weeks per litre per person for three meals and 2 hot drinks. If I ever run out of liquid fuel I also have the option of using small twigs to cook on too, handy in a small Jimny while exploring.
Love your videos and cant stop watching them. I would also have an aftermarket inline fuel filter on there full time as they are so easy to change. I am surprised they still use a 1HZ in such a late model 78 in SA where as in Australia the last 1HZ was used in 2007 when all diesels went to 4.5 twin turbo V8. Keep up the great work.
Thanks Hans. I love the 1HZ for its simplicity and robustness. Be sure to support my channel and the making of more shows: www.patreon.com/Andrew_StPierre_White
I love your videos!!!!! I am getting ready to retire and am thinking about hitting the road and converting a ford transit van I know you are a 4X4 guy and if I could afford it that is how I would go, I am thinking van because of the cost and I like an inside bed. If you have any thoughts I would really apericate it! Thanks and keep on traveling!
why don't you have an inline fuel filter as standard no matter where fill up?... dirty fuel can ruin your fuel pump, injectors and entire engine... if you don't get the tank flushed real good any dirt left in there will just keep fouling your engine
There is an in-line filter fitted. The question is, does one fit a second. If I had a second fitted, the results would have been the same - it becoming blocked and the performance affected. It still would have restricted fuel flow. The very large existing in-line filter was insufficient for the amount of dirt in the fuel in this case. Being an old design of engine, it should have no permanent affect on the injectors or pump. That is why this is such a great overland engine, as it's not overly sensitive to poor quality fuels. Modern direct injection and common-rail engines are far more sensitive. The vehicle has done another 10 000 since that incident with no issues. An external filter to filter the fuel between the gas station pump and tank might be worth considering. Or is that what you were referring to?
4xOverland I don't mean to be rude but didn't that in-line filter take contaminates out, didn't it work or was the fuel so dirty the filter let dirt through anyhow...
SquirrelFromGradLife No worries. The filter did its job and protected the injectors. But the fuel was so dirty, that it blocked the filter to the point where it would not let enough clean fuel through to run the engine at high power.
4xOverland BTW what are your opinion on getting Hutchinson beadlock wheel for a LR3? running on BFGs either MT or AT... are they complete overkill? I have some stock 18 inch alloy wheel and Pirelli Scorpio tires that came with the thing that sorta work off road
Great video. At around 17:00 there's a rolled 100 series...reminds you that it can get dangerous in some cases.

4xOverland knit
Andrew, what would you recommend regard storing a small container of stove gas(isobutane) in a vehicle during hot weather?
Is there an episode 2? Maybe I’m not looking in the right spots?
Can you tell me where I can get a copy of the maps you show in this video?

Good stuff!
Did you make it up to Scotland?
From experience i found that the fuel line that's physically inside the tank may also have a plastic tea bag like filter.
Is that Celsius or Fahrenheit?
Thanks
Makes me want to get in my tiny Jimny, load it to the ceiling, leave whatever doesn't fit behind and just go!
Me too..☺️
Bowser pumps pick up from the bottom regardless of how high the level in the tank... they're always pumping out the dregs!

4xOverland Good thing to know.. I bought a filter for just that reason and had no problem even siphoning from virtually bone dry farmer tanks...

There's that Red Rhino Horn on the front of your Troopy.
