Another reference that I think it's worth of mentioning is how Endwalker's signature job for the WoL is Paladin, which it's interesting because Dark Knight was the signature job on the previous expansion, referencing just like how Cecil went from a Dark Knight to a Paladin during the game.

Neat video, there's one more actually. However it's also something the localization seemed to miss, which was that the first boss of Smileton actually being the Deathmask enemies from FFIV, which are mechanical heads found within the deepest levels of the Lunar Core. The English localization of 14 actually uses the name Face (the enemy's Japanese name). The entrance to Smileton is actually also the same Lunar Face that functions as an entrance to the Lunar Ruins in FFIV Advance and the Complete Collection.
Koji Fox, usually heavily involved in the localization, has been assigned to work on FFXVI since right before Shadowbringers. This is one of those references I have a feeling he would have noticed.
Great video! Welcome to our town was absolutely worth the 350 bicolor gemstones to have in my room. A couple of others: The land area where Garlemald is located is called Eblan. Also, the name of the moon in FF4 was Elpis. Kokkol Dankkol, the explosion happy lalafell was the dwarven smith from FF4 who needed adamantite, just like the one in Sharlayan.

Having just completed a playthrough of FFIV DS before Endwalker dropped, I got super giddy when the name Kokkol came up, but...when was the FFIV moon given a name?

I could hardly hear it; I don't know if they've changed the volume since launch but you can't listen to it without being earblasted by the FFIV town theme right afterwards.
Estinien (a dragoon) during heavensward gets controlled by the enemy Nidhogg in a process very similar to mind control. This is a reference to Kain being controlled by Golbez. As of the new patch Golbez and the four friends make an appearance
As someone who's favorite Final Fantasy game is IV, seeing all of these references (especially the Bestway Burrows' battle theme) brought such a huge smile to my face. I love this expansion so much.
You missed one I think; The fact that via the cutscenes and the like we see that Ardbert (the stand in warrior of light) goes from being a Dark Knight to a Paladin for Endwalker. [SPOILER IN CASE ANYONE IS READING THAT HASNT FINISHED 6.1 MSQ] Also, the 4 fiends make an appearance as well as Golbez.
When I noticed the first reference to FF IV (which was my first FF games back on the good ole SNES) I was geeking out. My FC mates that voice chat in Discord were confused every time I noticed a reference and I had to explain it to them. All of them aren't fans of FF and this is the first FF game they've really played. And man...... when I saw Golbez, I freaking went nuts. I hope Cecil and the others show up in the subsequent updates.
Amazing video, I LOVE HOW YOU PUT Shinryu/Zenos theme at the end! I love Footfalls but I was really hoping for this theme or a special Zenos arrangement for the Shinryu theme! Also my favorite reference was all of them but specifically the addition of the battle theme from FF4
Thank you so much! 🥰 Scale and Steel/The Worm’s Tail are two of my favorite songs in the game (Shinryu puppy is permanently on my hotbar) I FREAKED OUT hearing the Endsinger’s theme the first time! The battle theme is a close second for me after Welcome to Our Town. Final Fantasy music is just so special ❤️

Between expansions Estinien joins the Scion. Estinien is the dead ringer for Kain Highwind. Also when Estinien prays during the Endsinger fight, he assumes the classic dragoon pose of Final Fantasy which is the logo art of FF4 featuring Kain the dragoon. Fuyosa is a sage and Sage job is introduced in Endwalker.
A few things I was hoping you'd mention, even if they're not exactly from Endwalker: - In A Realm Reborn, there's an Ala Mhigan spy that is infiltrating Gaius' legion for the Eorzean Alliance. When Nero figures out who he is, he identifies him as "Codename: Hummingway" before killing him. I imagine that would be why the Loporrits got a new name for their race in Endwalker. I also like to imagine that guy was just three Loporrits disguised as an Ala Mhigan adult. - In Shadowbringers, Hermes summons the Lunar Primals, which are no doubt based on the evil Eidolons summoned by the Mysterious Girls from The After Years. - In Endwalker, I think Meteion's super move is supposed to be based on Zeromus' Big Bang, but that might be a stretch. - Would it also be a stretch to compare Tellah and Louisoix's deaths, given they're both elderly sages who died in events involved meteors?
- Three Loporrits disguised as an Ala Mhigan spy is my new headcanon, thank you for that! - I considered mentioning the Lunar Primals since I was discussing the Maenads, but ultimately decided against it since I just wanted to focus on Endwalker for this video. But you are 100% correct. - So the Endsinger's Big Attack™️ is called Planetes, which is a sci-fi manga (and I think an anime?) that's about characters that pick up debris in space. It mainly deals with existential dread, as that drives the main character's development. It's a really cool read! - That's a good point, I can see the parallels. Maybe not the Meteors, but both casting spells they knew would take their lives but doing it anyway for the greater good?
@@MericamFFXIV The only hole in the logic in that last one is that Tellah doesn't cast Meteor for the greater good, he's still very much on his revenge kick until the moment he dies. It just so happens that Golbez's control breaking is good for the rest of the party.
To clarify all info provided is correct EXCEPT the lunar primals. The lunar primals are reflective of the lunar eidolons found in the post endgame dungeon in the original ff4 the 'Lunar Ruins'. You can attain each summon as a one time use however you can reacquire any specific one time summon everytime you beat the character specific subdungeon relative to that lunar eidolon i.e. lunar bahamut was kains subdungeon.
This is making me want a Final Fantasy IV: After Years Remake. I know SE isn't going to make a remake of the original Fantasy Fantasy IV because it already received it however I would like to venture that world in a third person open world action rpg.
That would honestly be a good idea! I know a lot of people who played the original and have never played The After Years, and a modern take on it would bring in more fans.
Thanks for sharing. I do notice that the three sisters make an appearance in Final Fantasy 10. I hope you make more videos of the Final Fantasy crossovers between each of the games that are in Final Fantasy 14. I notice there are Kingdom Hearts crossovers. Also, I have noticed within the game there are common themes with C.S. Lewis Chronicles of Narnia and J.R.R. Tolkien's Fellowship of the Rings and The Hobbit. Thanks for sharing. Besides I have found out, depending on how we design our characters. They can lead into cross overs or Easter Eggs within the game. My character Freyja. Her hair can change color depending on the light and shadow of the game, which can reflect ff9 Limit Break Trance mode or the Elipse Flower in Endwalker.

Been sitting on starting FF14 for a few years now -- good to know that my favorite entry is celebrated quite a it in Endwalker, as I had never even heard this until now
FF14 is unique in really being a love letter to its predecessors. It has its own amazing story, but you get these awesome moments where you go “Hey, that boss is from FF6!” It’s a lot of fun ❤️
There's one thing people easily miss as well. In Elpis, the main theme actually features a very quick motif of FFIV, which is the map theme of IV. It can be heard at 23 seconds of the Elpis themes (both day and night)
Awesome video and great explanation! However, you missed a very important detail for endgame players! The Moonward armor sets are based off of (most of) the same armor sets the party from IV wears. Unfortunately, the only ones that are unique are for Tanks, Ranged DPS, and Ninja. The others for casters and healers are color swaps. As well as the ones for DRG/RPR. Was pretty disappointed we didn't get a rendition of Kain's armor in this expansion, but thankfully another expansion covered that! The Tank armor is Cecil's Paladin armor from the PSP remake and the Dissidia games; the Ninja outfit belongs to Edge, and the Ranged gear belongs to Edward, everyone's favorite Spoony Bard!
Nice video! there were some things that I didnt remembered about the towers and their bosses, and the Meteon thing as well, good catch! Having said that, there are indeed more things: 1.There is a lemotiff that plays in Kistos dungeon that is straight from the music you played in 5:15 !! It is a small section but if you hear both songs back to back you will notice a reference there. 2.The tomestones gear has reference to Cecil, Rydia, Edward, and Edge. 3.I know this video is a bit old, but the 6.1 main story shows certain characters, thats all Im going to say to avoid spoilers.

So, if you swing the camera so that the Endsinger is viewed by the side profile, the stars flying by the battlefield, accented by the void of space, look very similar to the battlefield for Zeromus in the SNES version of FF4. - By extension, the area in which you face Zenos for your final contest might be a reference to the battlefield background for Zeromus in the PSP version of FF4, albeit static. - Elegeia, the Endsinger's opening raid-wide, is most likely a reference to Big Bang, Zeromus' signature attack. The way the Endsinger uses it is particularly reminiscent of the SNES version of the attack, where it was depicted as a lightning storm fused with a disco rave. Flashing lights warning to anyone and everyone who decides to look it up. Curiously, when the Endsinger calls for Phase 2 with Oblivion, that attack bears minor resemblance to the PSP version of Big Bang, where it's a giant orb that explodes. - "The Final Day", the theme that plays during Phase 1 of the Endsinger, is a giant love letter to SNES-era Final Fantasy. The opening strings are the same as the brief bit that opens every initial battle theme in the SNES era. For an FF4-specific reference, "The Final Day" brings back the iconic bass line that FF4 started to popularize for the series. If you're struggling to remember it, look up the first battle theme to FF9, where the bass goes its absolute hardest in the series other than FF4.

I think that's Greek for elegy, which fits the Endsinger both in tone and for being Greek. 4: I was so wrapped up in hearing all the FF14 leitmotifs, I didn't even think to listen for other references! I was watching an old HC Bailey let's play of Final Fantasy 4 and then I realized there's a reference that I completely forgot about I'm pretty sure you might have missed it. The dwarf who forges a really good weapon for you out of Adamantite is named Kokkol. Yup, like Kokkol Dankkol. And remember that the Lala are basically the dwarves
How about the various gear bought with the lv90 tomestones ? Like dragoon is Kain's skin, paladin is Cecil's, ranged is Edward's, casters is Rydia's...
You're right! I was mainly focusing on MSQ in this video, but it is really cool that we get their gear in game (And the opportunity to do fight [REDACTED 6.1 SPOILER] in cosplay) 😂
I knew that endwalker was going to be filled with FFIV references when I saw how the posterboy went from dark knight to paladin in expansions and that the paladin was on the moon. It did not disappoint. I’m still hoping that the Zeromus theme will make an appearance later. That was my favorite theme. So far the biggest reference that made me geek out is from 6.1. Spoiler below. It was when Golbez appeared. Though they have not named him, the armor looks like Golbez and he is referred to as the Knight in Black. Similar to how Golbez was called the Man in Black when he first appeared
It’s an exciting time to be a FF4 fan for sure 🥰 And the range of emotions I felt during that scene was intense! I was so sleepy during patch day, it actually took me a minute to register (took until he fully emerged from the darkness, then I was like “OH…OH WAIT THE MUSIC”)😂

It's a X reference rather than IV, but after the blasphemy hunt in Gridania the dance Kan-E-Senna performs as a prayer for her friend's soul is identical to The Sending.
@@Tioko I kind of wish they'd just gone for Rosa's outfit instead. The Maiming gear at least makes sense because one of the Dragoon AF sets looks like Kain's almost exactly, I don't remember which one though.
@@GayLPer As a WHM main and DNC player, I wish they didn’t go with Edward for the aiming set. I would love Rydia’s outfit on my DNC. I need more dresses for DNC. As for Rosa, well, it’s basically tradition already to have healers and casters share models. Which is sometimes good, but sometimes really sucks.
I consider myself an FF head, but only for 7, 8, and 10. (i main Gunbreaker and started playing 14 solely cuz I could use a Gunblade. XD) I DID play 4 on GBA eons ago. I spotted the battle music ref and the DrK to PLD in between expacs, as well as the lv 90 tome gear being rips of FF4 party members. I got super excited for the stuff I recognized. The magus sisters (but i only know them from FFX) and friggen ANIMA. But... Wait. Thats an FFX tangent. Never mind. Cool video by the way. I'm always happy to see more FF fans regardless of which game it is.

Machine Gun" would bang louder if it got the Soken treatment. Speaking of FF8, I do wish Ultimecia got used instead for the final savage raid (especially since the boss uses her time mechanics and her theme), I woulda been in bliss seeing Ulitmecia again.

Something I noticed which I've yet to see folks bring up is how Shadowbringers is FF3 and the first half of FF4 while the 2nd half of 4 is Endwalker. If you look at their plots in a more literal and thematic sense it's noticeable. While not in Endwalker one of the Eden raid mounts, the ugly "car" was given to you during the events of FF4...it's the Hovercraft. There are others but to truly list them all would be a daunting task. I couldn't stop geeking out while I streamed the MSQ when early access started. xD

Wait, Namingway and the hummingways in FF4 were supposed to be rabbits? I always thought they just had a weird turban on their head. Anyway, great video collection of the references! I'm old and started the FF series with 1, so I definitely caught the references, but it's always nice to get a refresher that won't make me cry from having to replay the Endwalker MSQ.

I always personally viewed zodiark being locked away in the center of the moon, but still having some influence as a reference to zemus, who himself was locked at the center of the moon but still influencing the world.
That’s awesome! FF4 has been one of my favorites since I first played it. I grew up with a Sega Master System, so I didn’t play the early Final Fantasies until I was an older teen. I’m so glad that you have those shared memories with your brother 🥰
Missing a few things, mainly in the final fight against the Endsinger, first of all her big raidwide aoe called Elegeia is an almost perfect match to Zeromus's big bang. Furthermore the whole fight takes place whilst moving forward AGAINST the endsinger similar to how in ff4 against the fight with Zeromus you see the background move against him, this also works into the Endsinger's Elegeia move which "pushes" the background "against" us similar to how that happens in ff4 when he uses big bang. There's some more smaller things like how we fight Zodiark inside the moon similar to how we fight Zeromus in the moon and perhaps a bit of a stretch but the name Zenos and Zemus are quite close and since Zenos takes up Zodiark's power after the battle with Zodiark and since we fought Zodiark inside the moon similar to ff4's Zeromus, and finally fight Zenos technically as the final boss; you could see some small interesting correlations (Also notice all the Z's in the name) And just one more thing i like to say but it's not about Endwalker which is Tsukuyomi being a moon goddess and having bunny ears hinting early at bunnies having a connection to the moon. (and some more but other peeps in the comments already said them ;3)
You did mention the Lunar Whale but didn't point out that even though it wasn't called the lunar whale in the game, I think that ship they take to the end of the world to fight Metrion is the lunar whale, at least that's how I saw it. Awesome video overall!

Since the ship we use to get to Ultima Thule is called Ragnarok (ship from FF8), I have been snobby about it not looking like a dragon. So you saying it parallels the Lunar Whale made me thing of a cross between a whale and a dragon, which just became an image of the WOL riding a really fat dragon to the edge of existence 😂😂 I almost snorted tea up my nose, so thank you ❤️

It's probably mentioned here, but the Moonward sets gained via tomestones are all references to the ffxiv party. Edit: nvm, it isn't. Also another potential reference is how at the end of ffiv: tay, the maenads entrust a younger maenad to the party, whom rydia adopts and names "Cuore". Likewise, it's heavily implied the Meteion we met in elpis survived and accompanied the party back to etheirys
They are though, at least some of them. Specifically Rydia for caster, Cecil for tank and Edward for physical ranged I believe. Edit: According to below it's Edge as well for scouting and striking gear.

I can't believe you *MISSED OUT* on pointing out that Zodiark, is for all intents and purposes *Zeromus* . Hell you even clutch the crystal of Azem to bring light into the cavern and reveal him from the Shadows. In essence, revealing the true form of Zeromus. Aside from that, I loved this video ^_^ Endwalker finally gave me some love after all these years of absolute crap. I was skeptical to the reveal of the denizens of the Moon at first, but then when I saw all the Lopportis the first time I was like " _AAAAAAAAAAAAAH, BUNNIES! IT'S THE -WAYS! OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!_ " :D That is my favorite place in the whole game. I'll just log off in the 'Burrows among all the bunnies!

One distinction I'd like to make is that the Meteon were not made from Dynamis, but rather were made with a deliberately low concentration of Aether so that they could harness the properties of Dynamis.
FFIV is my favorite FF pf all time, characters were well developed and the soundtrack is top notch. The 4 fiends battle theme is still my favorite song in all of FF. I was surprised to see that FFIV was the focus of Endwalker

Well, this reference isn't from Endwalker, but in Shadowbringers you already have FF4 references to start. For example the fact that you start there as a Dark Knight, returning the night to the First, The Dwarve tribe, the town of Tomra and the Dwarve Giott from the healer role quest are all references to FF4
I was among the 1st group of alpha test for FF14 v1.0 and also started playing on day 1 at launch. Kinda liked the game but after reaching max level I got bored and never came back even after the new v2.0 A realm reborn launched. Even if I never played this new version I gotta say I love this expansion cause FF4 (2 when it came out) was my first ever RPG I played when I was a kid.
I can honestly say you’re missing out. Come back to the game, the story is one of the best stories ever told! Especially Heavensward and Shadowbringers.
An unofficial guess: Endwalker probably made it so FF4 is the second most referenced Final Fantasy game in FF14. With FF11 still being the reigning champ.
@@MericamFFXIV lol I didn't play or know very much about ff11, i haven't noticed those references. I figured ff6 or ff12 or ff5 had more references. Then again, I assume ff11 has strong ties to china/Japan based on the recent crossover event? So stormblood probably has tons of ff11 references there?
@@AntiNihilist FF14 1.0 was designed to be “reminiscent” of FF11 to try and draw players over to a new MMO. Monster designs, the original races, a lot of ARR Fates, NPC names, even the 3 starting cities are all based on FF11. A friend jokingly asked if I’d ever make a FF11 reference video and I said “Do you want to watch a 3 hour video?” 😂
My favorite FFIV reference in Endwalker? I can tell you my least favorite: Puddingway! When he said his name, I nearly had to take an Ativan to stave off a PTDS anxiety attack. I hated that side quest SO MUCH!

I could hardly hear it; I don't know if they've changed the volume since launch but you can't listen to it without being earblasted by the FFIV town theme right afterwards.

Estinien (a dragoon) during heavensward gets controlled by the enemy Nidhogg in a process very similar to mind control. This is a reference to Kain being controlled by Golbez.

As someone who's favorite Final Fantasy game is IV, seeing all of these references (especially the Bestway Burrows' battle theme) brought such a huge smile to my face. I love this expansion so much.

You missed one I think; The fact that via the cutscenes and the like we see that Ardbert (the stand in warrior of light) goes from being a Dark Knight to a Paladin for Endwalker.

When I noticed the first reference to FF IV (which was my first FF games back on the good ole SNES) I was geeking out. My FC mates that voice chat in Discord were confused every time I noticed a reference and I had to explain it to them. All of them aren't fans of FF and this is the first FF game they've really played. And man...... when I saw Golbez, I freaking went nuts. I hope Cecil and the others show up in the subsequent updates.

Between expansions Estinien joins the Scion. Estinien is the dead ringer for Kain Highwind. Also when Estinien prays during the Endsinger fight, he assumes the classic dragoon pose of Final Fantasy which is the logo art of FF4 featuring Kain the dragoon.
Fuyosa is a sage and Sage job is introduced in Endwalker.

A few things I was hoping you'd mention, even if they're not exactly from Endwalker:
- In A Realm Reborn, there's an Ala Mhigan spy that is infiltrating Gaius' legion for the Eorzean Alliance. When Nero figures out who he is, he identifies him as "Codename: Hummingway" before killing him. I imagine that would be why the Loporrits got a new name for their race in Endwalker. I also like to imagine that guy was just three Loporrits disguised as an Ala Mhigan adult.
- In Shadowbringers, Hermes summons the Lunar Primals, which are no doubt based on the evil Eidolons summoned by the Mysterious Girls from The After Years.
- In Endwalker, I think Meteion's super move is supposed to be based on Zeromus' Big Bang, but that might be a stretch.
- Would it also be a stretch to compare Tellah and Louisoix's deaths, given they're both elderly sages who died in events involved meteors?
- Three Loporrits disguised as an Ala Mhigan spy is my new headcanon, thank you for that!
- I considered mentioning the Lunar Primals since I was discussing the Maenads, but ultimately decided against it since I just wanted to focus on Endwalker for this video. But you are 100% correct.
- So the Endsinger's Big Attack™️ is called Planetes, which is a sci-fi manga (and I think an anime?) that's about characters that pick up debris in space. It mainly deals with existential dread, as that drives the main character's development. It's a really cool read!
- That's a good point, I can see the parallels. Maybe not the Meteors, but both casting spells they knew would take their lives but doing it anyway for the greater good?
@@MericamFFXIV The only hole in the logic in that last one is that Tellah doesn't cast Meteor for the greater good, he's still very much on his revenge kick until the moment he dies. It just so happens that Golbez's control breaking is good for the rest of the party.

To clarify all info provided is correct EXCEPT the lunar primals. The lunar primals are reflective of the lunar eidolons found in the post endgame dungeon in the original ff4 the 'Lunar Ruins'. You can attain each summon as a one time use however you can reacquire any specific one time summon everytime you beat the character specific subdungeon relative to that lunar eidolon i.e. lunar bahamut was kains subdungeon.

This is making me want a Final Fantasy IV: After Years Remake. I know SE isn't going to make a remake of the original Fantasy Fantasy IV because it already received it however I would like to venture that world in a third person open world action rpg.
That would honestly be a good idea! I know a lot of people who played the original and have never played The After Years, and a modern take on it would bring in more fans.
Thanks for sharing. I do notice that the three sisters make an appearance in Final Fantasy 10. I hope you make more videos of the Final Fantasy crossovers between each of the games that are in Final Fantasy 14. I notice there are Kingdom Hearts crossovers. Also, I have noticed within the game there are common themes with C.S. Lewis Chronicles of Narnia and J.R.R. Tolkien's Fellowship of the Rings and The Hobbit. Thanks for sharing. Besides I have found out, depending on how we design our characters. They can lead into cross overs or Easter Eggs within the game. My character Freyja. Her hair can change color depending on the light and shadow of the game, which can reflect ff9 Limit Break Trance mode or the Elipse Flower in Endwalker.

Been sitting on starting FF14 for a few years now -- good to know that my favorite entry is celebrated quite a it in Endwalker, as I had never even heard this until now
FF14 is unique in really being a love letter to its predecessors. It has its own amazing story, but you get these awesome moments where you go “Hey, that boss is from FF6!” It’s a lot of fun ❤️
There's one thing people easily miss as well. In Elpis, the main theme actually features a very quick motif of FFIV, which is the map theme of IV. It can be heard at 23 seconds of the Elpis themes (both day and night)

Golbez and the 4 elemental archfiends.
Awesome video and great explanation! However, you missed a very important detail for endgame players! The Moonward armor sets are based off of (most of) the same armor sets the party from IV wears. Unfortunately, the only ones that are unique are for Tanks, Ranged DPS, and Ninja. The others for casters and healers are color swaps. As well as the ones for DRG/RPR. Was pretty disappointed we didn't get a rendition of Kain's armor in this expansion, but thankfully another expansion covered that!
The Tank armor is Cecil's Paladin armor from the PSP remake and the Dissidia games; the Ninja outfit belongs to Edge, and the Ranged gear belongs to Edward, everyone's favorite Spoony Bard!

Nice video! there were some things that I didnt remembered about the towers and their bosses, and the Meteon thing as well, good catch!
Having said that, there are indeed more things:
1.There is a lemotiff that plays in Kistos dungeon that is straight from the music you played in 5:15 !! It is a small section but if you hear both songs back to back you will notice a reference there.
2.The tomestones gear has reference to Cecil, Rydia, Edward, and Edge.
3.I know this video is a bit old, but the 6.1 main story shows certain characters, thats all Im going to say to avoid spoilers.

So, if you swing the camera so that the Endsinger is viewed by the side profile, the stars flying by the battlefield, accented by the void of space, look very similar to the battlefield for Zeromus in the SNES version of FF4.
- By extension, the area in which you face Zenos for your final contest might be a reference to the battlefield background for Zeromus in the PSP version of FF4, albeit static.
- Elegeia, the Endsinger's opening raid-wide, is most likely a reference to Big Bang, Zeromus' signature attack. The way the Endsinger uses it is particularly reminiscent of the SNES version of the attack, where it was depicted as a lightning storm fused with a disco rave. Flashing lights warning to anyone and everyone who decides to look it up. Curiously, when the Endsinger calls for Phase 2 with Oblivion, that attack bears minor resemblance to the PSP version of Big Bang, where it's a giant orb that explodes.
- "The Final Day", the theme that plays during Phase 1 of the Endsinger, is a giant love letter to SNES-era Final Fantasy. The opening strings are the same as the brief bit that opens every initial battle theme in the SNES era. For an FF4-specific reference, "The Final Day" brings back the iconic bass line that FF4 started to popularize for the series. If you're struggling to remember it, look up the first battle theme to FF9, where the bass goes its absolute hardest in the series other than FF4.

I was watching an old HC Bailey let's play of Final Fantasy 4 and then I realized there's a reference that I completely forgot about I'm pretty sure you might have missed it. The dwarf who forges a really good weapon for you out of Adamantite is named Kokkol. Yup, like Kokkol Dankkol. And remember that the Lala are basically the dwarves

You're right! I was mainly focusing on MSQ in this video, but it is really cool that we get their gear in game (And the opportunity to do fight [REDACTED 6.1 SPOILER] in cosplay) 😂
I knew that endwalker was going to be filled with FFIV references when I saw how the posterboy went from dark knight to paladin in expansions and that the paladin was on the moon. It did not disappoint. I’m still hoping that the Zeromus theme will make an appearance later. That was my favorite theme. So far the biggest reference that made me geek out is from 6.1. Spoiler below.
It was when Golbez appeared. Though they have not named him, the armor looks like Golbez and he is referred to as the Knight in Black. Similar to how Golbez was called the Man in Black when he first appeared
It’s an exciting time to be a FF4 fan for sure 🥰 And the range of emotions I felt during that scene was intense! I was so sleepy during patch day, it actually took me a minute to register (took until he fully emerged from the darkness, then I was like “OH…OH WAIT THE MUSIC”)😂

It's a X reference rather than IV, but after the blasphemy hunt in Gridania the dance Kan-E-Senna performs as a prayer for her friend's soul is identical to The Sending.

The tomestome tank gear sets look like Cecil as a Paladin. The scouting and striking gear looks like Edge. The casting gear looks like Rydia.
The aiming gear also looks like a carbon copy of Edward
The maiming gear shares model with Cecil’s, but in Kain colors. The healing gear shares models with Rydia’s, but in Rosa’s colors.

I DID play 4 on GBA eons ago. I spotted the battle music ref and the DrK to PLD in between expacs, as well as the lv 90 tome gear being rips of FF4 party members. I got super excited for the stuff I recognized. The magus sisters (but i only know them from FFX) and friggen ANIMA. But... Wait. Thats an FFX tangent. Never mind. Cool video by the way. Something I noticed which I've yet to see folks bring up is how Shadowbringers is FF3 and the first half of FF4 while the 2nd half of 4 is Endwalker. If you look at their plots in a more literal and thematic sense it's noticeable. While not in Endwalker one of the Eden raid mounts, the ugly "car" was given to you during the events of FF4...it's the Hovercraft. There are others but to truly list them all would be a daunting task. I couldn't stop geeking out while I streamed the MSQ when early access started. xD

I'm old and started the FF series with 1, so I definitely caught the references, but it's always nice to get a refresher that won't make me cry from having to replay the Endwalker MSQ.

I always personally viewed zodiark being locked away in the center of the moon, but still having some influence as a reference to zemus, who himself was locked at the center of the moon but still influencing the world.

FFIV is the most nostalgic game in the franchise for me and my brother- played the hell out of it when it was FFII on the SNES.
That’s awesome! FF4 has been one of my favorites since I first played it. I grew up with a Sega Master System, so I didn’t play the early Final Fantasies until I was an older teen. I’m so glad that you have those shared memories with your brother 🥰
Missing a few things, mainly in the final fight against the Endsinger, first of all her big raidwide aoe called Elegeia is an almost perfect match to Zeromus's big bang. Furthermore the whole fight takes place whilst moving forward AGAINST the endsinger similar to how in ff4 against the fight with Zeromus you see the background move against him, this also works into the Endsinger's Elegeia move which "pushes" the background "against" us similar to how that happens in ff4 when he uses big bang. There's some more smaller things like how we fight Zodiark inside the moon similar to how we fight Zeromus in the moon and perhaps a bit of a stretch but the name Zenos and Zemus are quite close and since Zenos takes up Zodiark's power after the battle with Zodiark and since we fought Zodiark inside the moon similar to ff4's Zeromus, and finally fight Zenos technically as the final boss; you could see some small interesting correlations (Also notice all the Z's in the name) And just one more thing i like to say but it's not about Endwalker which is Tsukuyomi being a moon goddess and having bunny ears hinting early at bunnies having a connection to the moon. (and some more but other peeps in the comments already said them ;3)
You did mention the Lunar Whale but didn't point out that even though it wasn't called the lunar whale in the game, I think that ship they take to the end of the world to fight Metrion is the lunar whale, at least that's how I saw it. Awesome video overall!

I just need you to know that your comment made me picture something hilarious. Since the ship we use to get to Ultima Thule is called Ragnarok (ship from FF8), I have been snobby about it not looking like a dragon. So you saying it parallels the Lunar Whale made me thing of a cross between a whale and a dragon, which just became an image of the WOL riding a really fat dragon to the edge of existence 😂😂 I almost snorted tea up my nose, so thank you ❤️
Lunar whale is definitely a shoutout to FF4 but in the beginning if you haven't unlocked all the currents, the whale can only jump on the ground :3

It's probably mentioned here, but the Moonward sets gained via tomestones are all references to the ffxiv party.
Edit: nvm, it isn't. Also another potential reference is how at the end of ffiv: tay, the maenads entrust a younger maenad to the party, whom rydia adopts and names "Cuore". Likewise, it's heavily implied the Meteion we met in elpis survived and accompanied the party back to etheirys

Endwalker finally gave me some love after all these years of absolute crap.
I was skeptical to the reveal of the denizens of the Moon at first, but then when I saw all the Lopportis the first time I was like " _AAAAAAAAAAAAAH, BUNNIES! IT'S THE -WAYS! OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!_ " :D That is my favorite place in the whole game. I'll just log off in the 'Burrows among all the bunnies!

Not really an endwalker connection, but I always noticed that emperor Varis looks a lot like Golbez. Big cape, shoulder armor, pointy helmet with two prominent horns, as well a long white hair.

FFIV is my favorite FF pf all time, characters were well developed and the soundtrack is top notch. The 4 fiends battle theme is still my favorite song in all of FF. I was surprised to see that FFIV was the focus of Endwalker

My favorite 4 reference in 14 is the dragoon pose, because that's the only thing I know about FFIV and I love DRG. Adding it to my list to eventually play 😊

Well, this reference isn't from Endwalker, but in Shadowbringers you already have FF4 references to start. For example the fact that you start there as a Dark Knight, returning the night to the First, The Dwarve tribe, the town of Tomra and the Dwarve Giott from the healer role quest are all references to FF4

i did play ffiv on the ds and i know of some of the refences but i never managed to beat the game

I was among the 1st group of alpha test for FF14 v1.0 and also started playing on day 1 at launch.
Kinda liked the game but after reaching max level I got bored and never came back even after the new v2.0 A realm reborn launched.
Even if I never played this new version I gotta say I love this expansion cause FF4 (2 when it came out) was my first ever RPG I played when I was a kid.
I can honestly say you’re missing out. Come back to the game, the story is one of the best stories ever told! Especially Heavensward and Shadowbringers.

An unofficial guess: Endwalker probably made it so FF4 is the second most referenced Final Fantasy game in FF14. With FF11 still being the reigning champ.
@@MericamFFXIV lol I didn't play or know very much about ff11, i haven't noticed those references. I figured ff6 or ff12 or ff5 had more references. Then again, I assume ff11 has strong ties to china/Japan based on the recent crossover event? So stormblood probably has tons of ff11 references there?
@@AntiNihilist FF14 1.0 was designed to be “reminiscent” of FF11 to try and draw players over to a new MMO. Monster designs, the original races, a lot of ARR Fates, NPC names, even the 3 starting cities are all based on FF11. A friend jokingly asked if I’d ever make a FF11 reference video and I said “Do you want to watch a 3 hour video?” 😂
My favorite FFIV reference in Endwalker? I can tell you my least favorite: Puddingway! When he said his name, I nearly had to take an Ativan to stave off a PTDS anxiety attack. I hated that side quest SO MUCH!
