- St Paul's Cathedral, London: 12-bells, 61-2-12cwt in Bb.
Rung by the Devon Call-Change Ringers: Sat 28th November 2015.
Footage starts with rising bells 2-9 in peal and a selection of "Queens" call-changes on 8-bells. This is followed by call-changes on 12-bells (double 60-on-Thirds). Footage concludes with lowering the middle 6-bells in peal and ends with the tenor bell tolling for evensong.
Sincere thanks are given to Mr Paul Mounsey (Master) and Mr David Bassford (Secretary) of the St Paul's Cathedral Guild of Ringers for granting permission for the band to ring and for the warm welcome we received. This is the first time in history that a "Call-Change" team has been allowed to ring the bells of St Paul's Cathedral. It was a wonderful honour, albeit a little scary. The bells are challenging to strike well due to the long unguided rope draft and some rather flighty front and middle bells. Several new friends were also made including Laura Davies, Alban Forster, Phill Ridley and Louis Suggett.
RINGERS:
Colin Adams, Scott Adams, Sue Ashton, Stuart Bennie, Steven Came, William Carew, Suzanne Driscoll, Elaine Grant, James Grant, Tom Grant, Stephen Herniman, Tony Jeffery, Christine Ley, Sam Massey, Andrew Phillips, Phill Ridley, Graham Sharland & Nicola Stoneman. Видеоклипы
I had the privilege of ringing at St Paul’s Cathedral in 1989 when ringing there was an all-male preserve.
Was amazing to watch you ringing in the flesh, thank you! And I hope to ring with you soon.
I love muffled bells and just glued watching this video, brilliant
They are not muffled
Bit right at the beginning sounded rather like continental bell ringing. So does letting the bells down at the end.
Its my ambition to ring at St Paul's one day.
Me too, I've always dreaming to ring at St Paul's and at Westminster too...
The College Youths practice there sometimes
@bellfan1 are you already a bell ringer?
Finally I start to understand the Midsomer "Barnaby" episode with the (partly lethal) bell-ringing contest ... As a "continental" European, I can only envy you Britains for this fascinating bell-ringing tradition of yours: I wish we had something remotely similar here, e.g. in my Dutch homeland ... 😞
There are so few sounds that can compare with the celebration of sound of change ringing.
Love IT ❤️💂🇬🇧💂❤️
Amazing so nice
I love the Bells
that must be so fun

This is the quickest way to develop muscles.
I would've thought that Taylor's would put a flat 6th in many years ago to form a middle 8 as using the 6th has the note of A, sounds a bit flat to the E flat scale.
Paul NUFC Smith it’s Lydian
These don't look too bad to ring even with the long draught. What are they like?
4:40 I dread to think what would've happened if he had missed that sally...
Bell-Ringer Adam neither do i :)
It would come back down right? Or do you have to not let it spin 360 degrees? (Thought there would be some mechanism stopping that)
It would have broken that mechagnism and pulled the ringer upwards if he didn't let go.
It wouldn’t be very dramatic. The bell doesn’t look like it’s quite reaching the balance point, and there’s not enough force being applied to break a stay designed for a 3 ton bell anyway. So the bell would either politely set itself (if it has just enough momentum to go over the balance) or the sally would bob and the ringer would regain control on the endstroke.
Enjoyable 😀
do you have a drone or something that you use to film the aerial shots?
What do you think? :P
Why are they ringing bells 2-9 and not 1-8?
they need to go to stmarys redcliff
Let me guess the tenor is 62 hundred weight ?
Mr bean Does gangnam style 61.5 cwt & 12 pounds in B flat.
Not only acoustically but also visually it would be a delicacy with abdominal muscle models - and as far as I can see, there is already one fine furry belly represented among the other beer bellies .... ;)
Wäre bei Bauchmuskel-Models nicht nur akustisch, sondern auch optisch eine Delikatesse - wie ich sehe, ist da schon ein schöner pelziger Bauch unter den Bierbäuchen vertreten ;)
So rude.
Weres great paul
In the other tower. Change ringing bells are in the North West (left) tower and Great Paul, Great Tom and the clock bells are in the South West (right) tower
The music with which this video opens is so out of keeping with everything that bell ringing is about that I turned it off.
Unbelievable isn't it?!
Why so? I find that these videos are everything that we should be trying to do for ringing, pushing it to a younger audience, rather than the sock/sandal wearing brigade and stuffiness that usually surrounds ringing in some parts. Never judge a book by it's cover, delve inside and be amazed, good striking on a challenging peal of 12
@michael, not assuming anything
