    ----------------------
    You can find an overview and links of this entire video series and upgrades below.
    Welcome to Step 7! After all these upgrades, I think The Rising FIghter finally deserved some basic paint! Since I (and others) consider the Rising Fighter as the final 'Hornet', a 'Super Super Hornet' or a 'Hornet III' it was important, for me, that there should be some visual connection to the legacy of the Hornets. A good approach to this would be Hornet decals. But even though I love the looks of my Grasshopper II with Grasshopper decals and I love the looks of several "Hornet"-remakes of the Rising Fighter found on the internet, for this one, I wanted to stay true to the original release "The Rising Fighter" and it's decal sheet.
    Even though I really think it looks splendid in blue, the original box art decals includes a lot of other colors: white, red, silver and black. So while wishing to make a connection to the Hornet and Super Hornet and also reducing the number of colours with one, I was left with only one choice: A Black Hornet. Personally I like the result and it really looks splendid side by side with it's sister, the Super Hornet.
    This series has focused on The Rising Fighter. But remember, many of these upgrades and hop-up options apply to the other buggies with the Grasshopper or Grasshopper II chassis: The Tamiya Grasshopper, The Hornet, The Grasshopper II and Super Hornet. The size and amount of ball bearings is the same for all five models. Only the Super Hornet comes with oil filled shocks in the front. All can be upgraded for more top speed and Ampro Engineering has transmission and rear braces for all models except the Grasshopper. And of course all choices of colors, decals, wheels and tires and be personalized.
    So ... this is the end of my Tamiya Rising Fighter "Hornet III" Sunday Upgrades ... for now at least. There are some things that still bothers me: The absence of "Hornet Eyes" (aux. lights), the stiffness of the rear suspension and the length of the non-official CVA-dampers I used. Some day, I would definitly also want to try the genious Ampro Double Wishbone Front Suspension.
    But for now, it's ready for the season and ready to run! So the next time you'll see it is in a test run, a speed test run or in the grass and dirt. Looking so much forward running it!
    Thank you for following along and thank you for all the encouraging and interesting comments along the way!
    A special and warm thank you goes to Ampro Engineering for the contributions to both The Rising Fighter, parts wise, and the personal contributions to the video series! Please check out Step 4 and 5.
    Hope you found this video useful or/and interesting! This video series is purely intended for viewers with an interest in the Tamiya Grasshopper/Hornet legacy or/and the Tamiya Rising Fighter.

    The Fighter looks great, a lil trick I learned from a doll house maker if applying chrome/mirror decal to a top surface he’d make mini fridges, armoires for dollhouses with mirrors. Just tape off area for decal, when finished painting peel mask apply chrome decal. Less painting and sanding and the result will be mirrortastic👌 awesome video as always 👊

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  5 лет назад

      Hi Luke! Thanks for the tip though I’m not sure if I entirely understand it. What will the benefit be? Masking off areas on the body in the correct size and position of the decals would result in a lot of work. And if the masking is 1 mm wrong it will look terrible. The thing that was hard with this was the precut decals. If one should apply the usual techniques one should cut the back of the decals in perfect alignment with the precuts, which I didn’t opt for. Everything is much much easier with non-pre-cut decals, in my opinion. But I may have got the tip wrong? But thanks a lot for the kind feedback my friend.

    Well, Nordic RC Visions, I must say I have thoroughly enjoyed following this series! Love the way you 'personalised' the buggy with your own take on the colour scheme - gotta say that the black was a fantastic choice and the original decals suit the colour well. I really think that the yellow Holiday Buggy star dished wheels would look awesome against the black too! I hope we get a chance to see the transformed car running on the rough! As for the name, I was thinking "The Rising Stealth Fighter", or on a lighter note, "The Horny Fighter" Hehe - only joking! Here's to the next series - big thumbs up mate :D

      Ha ha, if this wasn't a family channel I would pin that comment ;-) Will definitly try some other colours of Tamiya wheels some time with this one. Maybe yellow or red. Would look very Super Hornet'ish. As far as I remember your RF is white right? I think the RF looks splendid in white, red or black. Suits the decals. Hope to see more of it on your channel some day. He he, when I realized everyting was black or silver except for the wires and wheels, I had to see it with black wheels. Looks mean. But not as classic as I would like :-) Yeah, for long the plan was to apply the Hornet decals. Like my Grasshopper II. But even though I'm not a great fan of the Rising Fighter name to a buggy like this, I decided to stay true to the original and I think the RF decals actually look great on black. Ampro has made a "real Hornet III" out of his. Awesome looking with Hornet decals. And I've also seen a couple of black RF's with the Hornet decals on the internet, though I can't remember where right now. Hornet MkII would be a cool name for it too! I have no idea what I should call this one. Hornet MkII, Super Super Hornet, Hornet III or maybe the Rising Fighter Super G :-)
      Thanks for wacthing, my friend :-)

    • @Harkeness_RC

      Nordic RC Visions you’re welcome Buddy! The rising fighter super G sounds like an awesome name for it, But equip it with super G wheels yes! Yeah original yellow or green wheels. Or I can suggest getting non tamiya ones but in green or yellow it will really stand out with the black. Remember we can put any wheels we want on our buggy’s it will still look awesome. Yeah I like those black wheels too, it looked really mean and well suited. :)

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  6 лет назад +1

      Yeah, the declas and body looks much nicer in black, and much more Hornet'ish. I had planned on using the Hornet stickers, but somehow, through this proces, I wanted to stay true to the original Tamiya design and "The Rising Fighter". Just did a similar job with the Grasshopper II and the Grasshopper decals so wanted something else for this, though I might do a Hornet III at some time in the future with the original Hornet decals :-)

  • @SYREKZZ
    @SYREKZZ 4 года назад +1

    Looks so much better than the original box art. Great work! And thank you for sharing.
    I am looking into purchasing the Rising Fighter Kit and looking into making my very own adaptation of the Grasshopper (calling the project Grasshopper III) as the Rising Fighter chassis is slightly better over the grasshopper/ hornet. With DT01 transmission and easily able to fit oil shocks on the front.
    The trouble i have is that i dont really like the Rising fighter shell, just rear spoiler doesnt appeal to me and i am thinking of putting the grasshopper shell on the chassis, question is.. would it fit? With or without modifications to the shell?

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  4 года назад +1

      Thanks a lot bro. Good idea. Although with the body from the Super Hornet I think the Rising Fighter is more like a Hornet III. But if you change the body it could easily look like a Grasshopper 3. The Rising Fighter has the Grasshopper 2 Chassis. My version of a ‘GH3’ is coming up soon here 🙂 Yeah, it’s fun projects.
      I do not think a GH1 body can fit a GH2 chassis. But never tried it. But of course with the right body mounts the GH2 body will fit perfectly on the GH2/SuperHornet/RisingFighter chassis.

    Great series and a nice focus on a model which should get more credit, I was waiting for you to spray the wheels black at the end!? 😀

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  6 лет назад

      Ha ha, yeah, that would have been a logical ending of the video. Got the Star Dish wheels in black plastic too so maybe I’ll try them out on the Rising Fighter some day. And yes, this really deserves some attention. I have talked a lot with AMPro about this. Tamiya really should have called it a Grasshopper III or (if it was supplied with oil filled shocks) a Hornet III. With the ‘Fighter’ name it is lost and will only generate interest for the kids. Which is too bad, since many adults, who like these classic entry-level Hopper/Hornet design from the 1980s and 1990s, could have a lot of interest in this one. If they knew it technically speaking is a Hopper/Hornet :-)

    Lovely job, RC newbie here but experienced modeller (Warhammer etc). As 99.9% of these will be blue, and a popular kit would love to change colour. Do you run this car much, and does the paintwork withstand a bit of "backyard bashing"? Shame they pre-painted really.

      Thank you, Tim. Welcome to the RC hobby ☺️ We got a great RC community here on RUclips. No, I’ve not run it much. And a hard body with paint is always at risk for some scratches. I think they could've really made more cash from the Rising Fighter if they had named it the Hornet III. I like the name but think a bunch of Hornet fans would've bought something called Hornet III but haven't got any business with something called the Rising Fighter.

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  5 лет назад

      Yeah, I've talked a lot about that with other Tamiya enthusiasts here on youtube. Definitely would have gained more attention among the Tamiya community. But I've come to the conclusion that in 2008 Tamiya was very reluctant to put any oil filled dampers in their cheapest of entry-level lines (it changed with the DT-03) and they would have had to if they wanted to name it The Hornet III. But I also think the thought never came to name, as this was put out as a "Fighter" for their Fighter Cups. I think they are selling a lot more to the young Japaneese and German etc. children than to old senior builders :-)

      No, more like an old school Hornet/Grasshopper released late in 2008. It got a Grasshopper II 1988 chassis and a 1993 Super Hornet body. The DT-01 gear box and wing is also from the 1990s. So ancient design in a new package :-)

I see a lot of people buying these for on road runs, but I'm not really recommending it, as they wear out pretty quickly on tarmac. "All terrain" in this case means "except tarmac/asphalt" (not great grip on tarmac anyway) and I think the stock ones do better off road anyway.

    You don't know it's the last one or that the Hornet legacy is ending anytime soon. Why be so pessimistic? Or maybe somewhere inside I know the Hornets are ending too and am just not willing to except it 😢

      No I don't :-) And not being pessimistic, just over-dramatizing and thought the name "The Last ..." sounds cool. Ahh, The Hornet legacy lives forever, also without Tamiya releasing any more. It lives with us, the builders and hobbyists and enthusiasts :-)
