    I’m 36 and thinking about enlisting, pretty much because I don’t want to lose the opportunity I never took in my younger years. I’ve considered the Air Force because I like aviation and mechanics and I currently work in automotive but space force now sounds like a super cool option as well.

    Space Force HQ is not in Colorado, it's at the Pentagon with the Joint Chiefs of Staff, just like every other branch. Space Operations Command (MAJCOM) and Space Training and Readiness Command are Headquartered in Colorado. There is a HIGH likelihood you can spend your whole career in CO, and an Extremely low likelihood of deployment. If you want to travel, the USSF isn't the way to go.

I am aware that the training for those jobs are some of the hardest in the miltary and has a high failure rate, so security forces is my backup. So, I decided to join the Air Force and then hope to transfer into the Space Force later.
      HOWEVER, I will let you know that I was about 40 pounds overweight when I first met my recruiter in the summer. He told me to not talk to him again until I lost the weight. I then lost 25 pounds and make an appointment with him in November. Right now it's a waiting game for my paperwork.

      @AB-sw4kb Год назад +2

      I think a G-72 is the highest requirement, so if you have anything higher than that on your ASVAB, you should be fine, it's just a matter of manning. The Space Force is really only looking at intel, cyber, and space operators from their junior enlisted.
      The SFSC "5S" is the most abundant for junior enlisted. It's the USSF version of the Air Force's "1C6" AFSC, Space Systems Operations. It's a wide umbrella that most junior enlisted guardians fall under. It includes satellite command & control, missile warning, and offensive/defensive jamming to protect our troops down range.

      Future Guardian, although I'm a submariner and not a Guardian, some good universal advice for joining the military includes:
      - Good ASVAB scores. Look up the subject the ASVAB tests for, and aim high. The higher your score, the more positions will be available for you in any service.
      - Physical Fitness. The other branches may joke about a "desk job service", but the Space Force is a military service just like any other, and you will regret not being in at least decent shape. Cardio is a big one in all the branches, so I'd start working on your mile time and pushups.
      - Just Say No to drugs. And that includes weed, no matter which state you're in. Until Congress officially makes it legal, assume it isn't and act accordingly.
      - Don't do crime. Just don't. That includes joining anything that is or could be considered a "violent extremist organization" or militia of any sort. And don't get tattoos of them either, they check for that at MEPS.
      - Get sober. You're not going to have access to alcohol or tobacco while in any branch's basic training. Better start off clean now than have to go cold turkey half a day into training.
      Good luck out there, Future Guardian. Semper Supra!
