- In this video I am talking about why I love the FUJIFILM PRO 400H and how it became my new favorite color film after having tested a couple of color films throughout the year. Namely Kodak Ultramax, Portra, Ektar, Ektachrome and Cinestill 800T.
All photos in this video were taken with my Leica M6.

Get in here everyone. We’re going crying.
☹️
Super sad to have read the news just moments ago.
of course this is being recomended now.
Yes 🤔 the video gets some attention since the Fuji news broke. Such a pity.
I like 400H a lot, I think it's one of the best versatile film out there and I like the tones.
I very much enjoy your subject matter, delivery, and images.
Thanks a lot Jesse! Glad you like my videos.
This is my favorite film. I love the blues.
thanks for the review . enjoyed your photos.
Thanks a lot Michael!
Beautiful photos! Definitely going to give this film a try, I like Fuji Superia shot at 200.
Thank you Shawn. You won't be disappointed. Let me know how you like it once you get a chance to try it out.
Really nice shots and great video. subbed!
Thank you Sonya!
such a great video !!! thanks for that :)
Glad you liked it!
What a great video, this will be my next film for sure
Cool. Thanks for watching and enjoy the pro 400h. Let me know how you like it.
i have never tried shooting with any fuji films. i almost bought the superia 400 as my first film but ended up with the kodak ultramax 400. this video just made me so curious trying fuji. thank you for this!
Thanks a lot. Yeah try the Fuji Pro400h. In my opinion it's beautiful.
Hi , great review. I will be in Tahiti in January and I will be taking a roll with me.
Super cool. Would love to see Fuji's colors when shot on a tropical island. Enjoy!
I am a total kodak guy I love their films. That being said Fuji 400H is the exception to the rule it is an absolutely awesome film
Damn! I'm shocked you're the only photographer that managed to show Fuji 400H as it was meant to be! I've shot expired 400H try them out too, (the shadows and black will tend to have a blue/green tone) but about to shoot a fresh one after this pandemic! Nice review! Keep safe!
Thank you Jake. Glad you liked the video. Yeah, I love Fuji pro 400h's colors. Will try expired 400H once I get my hands on it.
mine weren't expired yet but the shadows were very blue
Hi - thanks for an excellent review! Love the blues and reds in the Fujifilm you reviewed...what scanner and scanner software did you use..thanks again for all the effort and time put into your excellent channel:-) Henrik
Hi Hendrik. I am currently using a Reflecta ProScan 10t scanner with SilverFast AI Studio to scan the negatives. Currently thinking of switching to an Epson v850 Pro scanner.
Really enjoyed this. Thank you.
Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed it.
I like the color tone. It looks great
Little did he know that this film was going to get discontinued a year later 😞 I haven’t tried color yet myself outside Portra. What is your second favorite once this becomes unavailable?
My second favorite is probably lomo 800 and in the ISO 400 range I think Ultramax is often overlooked.
@@TheMPhotography thanks! I might try them out if I ever decide to give color a go!
Love Ultramax
Great review! I recently shot one roll of 400H (Leica M4) in very sunny conditions and at box speed. I really liked how it rendered the colors. Definitely, a film to use more often!@
Thanks Eric. 🙏
I'm working with Superia 400, Gold 200 and Portra 400 mostly but will now definitely try the Pro 400h.
Greetings from Biel!
Hey Karim. Thanks for watching! Hope you will like the pro 400 h. I love it and planning on shooting it in 120 hopefully soon. Greetings from Zurich.
I was gifted a pack of 5 Christmas 2020. I'll use them for family portraits using my Yashica 635. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching. 👍🏻
You are a very good photographer
very interesting review, I will keep in mind, thanks
Thanks for watching!
Very good Review, thank you! Like you said Portra 400 works fine in sunny places like California or Arizona. I was very disappointed when I shot it in my hometown in Germany. I will give 400h a try. Do you shoot it at boxspeed or like Portra 400 at 200 ISO?
And the vibe of your photos from Venice reminds me of photos from 20 years ago. Beautiful!
Thank you Stefan. Appreciate your kind words. Yes I shoot 400H at ISO 200. It also needs the little extra kick.
in my experience you can basically shoot it between 400 and 25 iso without any problems! also a push to 800/ 1600/ 3200 isn't a problem!
This is a great film stock the colors are nice I'll be shooting Fuji 400h in Tokyo my only issue is the price of this film and now discontinued.
You should try Kodak Gold, I was not expecting much of that film but was pleasantly surprise, only available in 35mm
Yes. It is definitely on my list of films to try.
MING - Art of light cool, thanks for the tip.
Hey man one question, I didn't have time to watch the whole thing but I like yours shots, what ISO did you expose these at and did you push or pull during developing?
I shot them at ISO 200 and no push or pull during development.
@@TheMPhotography thank you
Do you have to Edit the Photos for them to Look Like yours do? I saw one Review where the Scans Came Back really blue and Generally dark. Looking Forward to your replys, thanks.
The scanning makes a huge difference for sure. I never experienced blue cast when scanning this film. They photos I showed are edited. I edit all my scans. Generally I find Fuji Pro400h to be easier for me to edit. I struggle a lot to get Portra to lool nice.
@@TheMPhotography thanks, how much editing was done tho? I myself Like to leave my shots the way they Came from the Lab, does that Work with this Film?
So far I developed and scanned all Fuji films myself. I did not have film scanned at a lab yet at all. I guess it highly depends on the person in the lab on how the scans look. Scanning color film is not easy as is the dark room process.
Nice video!
I would try CineStill 800T with a warming filter (85B) in daylight if I were you. It works very well for me! nd you can just remove the filter when the sun goes down. It has some of that same lush blue that Fuji has, but not the slightly oversaturated red that can cause some issues with pale skin tones sometimes. The downside is that it's pretty expensive!
Thank you for your feedback. Appreciate it. I was actually thinking of doing so too some time in the future. I am using such a filter when filming Super 8 on vision 3 200T/500T. Haven't come around trying it on my Leicas. Mainly because I don't own such a filter for my lenses... and the CineStill is indeed very expensive and not always available. At least here in Switzerland.
@@TheMPhotography It's very expensive here in Norway too. But the colour palette and latitude is pretty awesome! I rate it at ISO400 with ttl metering on my Leica M6. I have a 39mm 85B filter on my old Summicron. I'm gonna trying the Kodak 500T too. Probably less expensive but a bit more of a hassle to develop!
@@thedondeluxe6941 cool. Looks like I need to hunt for such a filter to try it out. You made me curious. ;)
@@TheMPhotography Definitely a cool (or rather warm) filter to have in your arsenal :-)
It can give a nice effect with normal films too.
Great review.I bet a lot on this film before try it, because despite of the perfect performance of Portra 400, I find it a bit boring.I shot one roll of Fuji Pro 400H super fresh release and I was disappointed by the way shadows appear when scanning.I use a quality Reflecta scanner, but the grain of Fuji 400 appear in shadows really bad. What are your impressions about this?
Thanks for watching. So far my experiences with grain in the shadows were positive. I shoot it one stop overexposed at 200 though. Dunno if you tried that. I scanned it with a reflecta proscan 10t and with my epson v850. In both cases fine.
@@TheMPhotography Hmm, I never tried at 200 ISO. I would be more than happy if you upload somewhere not edited TIFF scan of shot with Fuji 400 (some portrait with shadows or something else) at 5000 dpi.I have Reflecta PRS 10 and it makes perfects scans, only with Fuji Pro 400 I got poor results.I’m very curious to see the result of another person who use same film and scanner.
Sure. I can do so. Can you please send me an Email (you find mine in the info) and I can upload a TIFF to gDrive and share it with you.
@@TheMPhotography done
what's the lense(s) you used sir?
I am using the 35mm, 50mm and 75mm Leica Summicron lenses.
did you metered at 200 or 400 ?
At 200
You can't fool us Keegan-Michael Key 🤔
What is going to be your new favorite now that 400H is discontinued?
I am not sure yet. For fun shooting for sure the Ultramax but for serious shootings I struggle a lot I must say. I like the look of Lomo 800. Not sure about the quality of production though. The Fuji Pro 400h leaves a big gap for me that Portra simply cannot fill, for me at least :-(
Did you shoot at box speed?
I shot on ISO 200.
was this medium format or 35mm ?
35mm with a Leica M6
are these shot with box speed of 400?
I am shooting this film at ISO 200 and developing it as if I shot it at box speed 400. I like to give this film a tiny bit more light.
I hope you stocked up on this film..... it is now discontinued..
I just read the news 😱 makes me very sad. I need to stock up. Only 20 rolls left in my fridge.
RIP
It’s been discontinued
Unfortunately yes :-( in the mean time
Oops!! What now my dude!! It's discontinued!!
Good question. I am not sure what now. The only other color negative films I like so far are Lomo 800 and Ultramax. But both are no suitable replacements for Pro 400h unfortunately. I guess I need to find an alternative. Portra is not the answer for me.
@@TheMPhotography you could shoot the superia line for 35mm!! As for 120 the only way is Kodaks films!! I don't think that you wanna waste money on velvia!!
I don’t like the superia line tbh and I am afraid you are right with Kodak being the 120 option. Will give lomo 400 a shot.
@@TheMPhotography if you can get your hands on Lomo 400, then you should definitely go for it!! The way things are, is that Lomographys 400 and 800 films are getting sold out quite often!!
Yes. Same here in Switzerland. Barely available.
:(
Yeah. Sad 😞
I'm so sorry... :(
Yeah. Super sad. 😢
This did not age well
Yeah 😢
