Appreciate you covering this forgotten conflict
Thanks. I need to do an update on all that's going on, but had a family bereavement so things are a bit slow currently.
are you ever going to cover recent events in the black sea?
@@terrynewsome6698 I'm guessing that's aimed @HISuttonCovertShores
@@EdNashsMilitaryMattersI hope that you are ok Ed. All the best.
@@EdNashsMilitaryMattersyes, but I am also curious about your thoughts about the current isreali campaign in gaza and their missile defense campaign against the houthis?
Good to see you back on top form Ed.
thanks for covering this dude. sorry for you're loss.
Keep these coming Ed. You are one of the few rational even handed voices covering these lesser known conflicts.
Ed, Thank you so much for keeping us not only updated on this conflict but also providing such detailed background to it. The war against the junta barely makes the news, as it's drowned out by the wars in Ukraine and Gaza.
The dancing coup meme never gets old
It's so good. That chick is absolutely working it for 'The Gram' , totally oblivious to the swarm of danger right behind her.
It's gold.
Dance dance revolution
Many thanks for putting foward the oft-forgotten tragedy.
Please keep these videos coming it something that ever one needs to know and understand
I appreciate you and your channel so much. Thank you for covering it.
This has been eye-opening, and also confusing. Thanks mate.
Will you do the UWSA next? I only learned of their existence a few months ago. And find them fascinating, how they pattern themselves in alot of ways with China's government.
It's so intriguing watching their military parades and seeing an army march just like the PLA does, despite not even being in China.
UWSA is actually Pro Junta at least on papers. but recently they have shown their strong dissent against the current general of the tatmadaw.
@@sosoableand they are also in a list of Pro Junta Militias too. They just don't like the current army chief.
@@patriotenfield3276yeah the declared if any govt plane goes into wa territory they would air strike it, of course they are pro junta
The MNDA also march with PLA drill, their uniform is similar to that of the UWSA. Wonder how close they are being both Chinese backed, use the Chinese language, and Communist(ish)
This was all new to me. Thanks for the education.
The military matters
Ed . It's a pity a global network doesn't tune in to your channel . Your continued knowledge and passion for this small but ignored country really does deserve more coverage . I don't begin to understand the why's and wherefore's , however , as in all conflicts the few seem to dictate how the vast majority should suffer . Thankyou Ed 💕
Cheers John. There are some excellent journos who cover Burma... you just never see them on TV ☹
You know much about my country.
Thanks for covering up bro.
I remember reading "Burmese Days" by George Orwell and the Chinese in the book were all part of the merchant class back then in the 1920s Burma.
That’s true of many societies in SE Asia. There’s significant Chinese diasporas in the Philippines and Malaysia for example.
@@baneofbanesWell yeah, the British implemented policies to disempower the Burmese and brought in millions of Indians and Chinese to take over.
I did not know that. It is a fascinating subject and one which I should study more. Thank you!@@baneofbanes
If the rebel groups defeat the military, will they turn on each other? Will China get more involved to get access to resources
no and no
all are fighting to build a Federal Democracy
@@Ramxie35not the MNDAA, they are fighting for themselves
None ethnic rebels have interesting on overthrow Junta,, It would be a balance if they win
Except Karen people groups, Many EAOs are interested in a quasi federal structure where they could run each ethnically dominant regions as autonomous provinces ( Countries within a Country) or just replacing the Bamar dominated tatmadaw as the dominant ruling group like the Bamar dominated PDF . However whoever is in Power, Border troubles for both India and Bangladesh will be in all headache and I hope Both Countries will continue maintain good relations like they are now to thwart any serious opium and gun smuggling industries.
Thanks for covering this war. I have seen many channels including the big western media covering this war, yet they are very inaccurate. You are the only channel that have been very accurate about this war.
the Kokang faction is not the only one that's close to China, the Wa State is also close to China and receives surplus PLA gears and equipment. the Wa state is also much larger and also uses Mandarin Chinese as an official language.
Thanks for making content in a conflict that's so little talked about unfortunately
You are cute. I am straight though.
Hey ed thanks for covering this forgotten conflict again. Will u cover recent gains made by not just 3BA but also other groups in the region? I believe the junta is facing biggest challenge since the coup
Yes I am, this video is kind of a prequel.
@EdNashsMilitaryMatters, good to hear. I'm looking forward to your new videos 😁
Glad seeing Burma back being documented, thanks Ed. Tbh, these details are news to me [so I watched twice.] I do like the series titles, I've been away for a while.
Impoverished 'gangster states' do tend to fail over time, but as of now, when Burma finally fails, the CCP will 'help out'. Obviously this would be terrible all round. India needs Burma to be a functioning state & we all need India, so am I missing a link here? Stabilising Burma seems such an obvious & inexpensive _strategic_ opportunity, if nothing else, that it almost hurts. I'll stfu now, it's 0020, 8hrs after. ;)
ED Thank u for Myanmar Alliances FORCES more plz AHEAD appreciated great News Global
Great video! - could you do one on the UWSA and its relationship to the CPB?
On the to do list.
thanks for covering this forgotten war
i am curious to see how long the junta can last with the situation deteriorating at this rate.
Ed, Thank you for this-- just discovered your channel and subbed. I tried to get your book on Kindle but it only allows kindle purchase in the UK-- What's up with that?
Sorry, yes, no US publisher 🤷♂️
More Burmese civil war series
The land to the East of Salwin River belonged to China pre 1897, which was eceded to British Burma.
During 1950s border division between Sino-Burma, CCP gave up its claim to those land for its political goals.
Even Newin found it was toooooo easy to get those land. Rember it is also part of McMahon line and PRC still has terroritory dispute with India for the McMahon line.
I fear, that even if these various anti-junta militia are successful in overthrowing the current regime, it'll just devolve into a mess of various factions continuing to fight amongst themselves, and the long suffering civilian population will just continue to suffer.
After all... that seems to be the way of "humanity" throughout history.
Hope I'm wrong, but.......
do u know what a Federal Democracy is?
Unfortunately , You are going to be partially correct . Unless a US-Styled Federal Govt is not implemented to meet the needs of all groups , it will continue.
As the saying goes ten wise men can sleep on one rug, a whole kingdom can't fit two princes.
Bruh it's not really that deep. The previous government that was arrested by the military was literally created and funded in the united states. obviously the military had to end this one way or another because the government is controlled by foreign powers. And yes like in every other poor countries that's trying to get rid of western influence faces well armed militias and rebels. Like France arming rebels in Niger and Mali because the military overthrew the western backed government. So this little video walks around this fact trying to pin all the blame on China like literally they mentioned only China throughout the whole video while India is also arming the military 🤷. So it's the legitimate military against rebel forces backed by the west. That's why only BBC and CNN journalists films on the rebel side.
@@Ramxie35 What a silly question. FYI I've lived in a constitutional democracy for over 60 years.
Name one "federal democracy" that is contending with a dozen armed, organised groups of militia, each with their own agenda while (supposedly) trying to build a stable society. How is the application of an enforced "federal democracy" working for Iraq?
Do you remember they tried a "federal democracy" recently in Myanmar, and it devolved back to what they suffer now.
You're being naive.
Fascinating - something that gets virtually no coverage.
You forgot a very important event that the MNDAA leader at the time Pheung Kya-shin killed more than a dozen policemen and wounded 40 for conducting drug raids on his factories.
thanks for talking about this war no one cares to cover
May democracy return
Burma become Gaza soon
The rebels are fully equipped with Chinese weapons
The entire region speak and write mandarin, and uses those Chinese RMB as currency too. Not surprised they chose to align with China over the Burmese govt.
Basically African Level politics is happening in Myanmar. Govt is worst because of the exploitations and mass human rights violations and resource hoarding. and if overthrown will exile themselves in any rich allied country with the resources they looted. Meanwhile
Because of the shitshow , Bangladesh and India are suffering heavily due to it. Bangladesh where Rohingya refugees are becoming economic burden over the Bengalis and on top the Arakan army running gunslingers and drug business along with terrorism in Chittagong and Sylhet division.
And also many groups are trying their best to push opium trades and triangles in India's North Eastern states along with gun trades to fund separatist and other terror activities .
Why do l suspect that little of this has to do with democracy.
"...other ancillary services" ... Know what you mean, mate😉
Noice euphemism, btw
👍
Thanks! Now I understand why I don’t see China acting more direct in favor of the junta ;)
myanmar civil war so underated like no one care so sad....
Has Burma ever had anything other than a military junta in charge since independence?
Let the Democracy returns in Myanmar
Do you see what democracy has done to the west? EU has become a vassal state of US and US has become a vassal state for Israel they have collectively killed more than 2 million civilians within the last 20 to 30 years I mean really look at the west do you really see average people enjoying life
Democracy 👍👍👍
we supports...(AA)Arakan army.💪💪💪
Federal states of Burma is near
No college protests for the Muslim people of Myanmar being dealt harshly by their own countrymen and women.
KIO/KIA Kachin Independent Army 💚❤️
I wish India would step in and stop this war and end this murder
:)
I’m neutral no alliance democratic
They don't sound like a group I would trust with any power.
Because they are chinese?
@@ostrakos4785 Because they are tied to the CCP.
@@Paladin1873 so you think a group freeing victims of human trafficking is not trust worthing because they are tied to the ccp? Im a malaysian and very grateful that they managed to free many of our citizens from slavery. The truth is that china is cracking down on cyber crimes and human trafficking in south east asia, and thats a good thing.btw the history of the mndaa and china are more complex than you think. In 2009 there was tacit chinese approval to remove them
@@ostrakos4785 I can think of at least a 100 million people who would disagree with you, but they can't speak because the communists killed them all. Be careful who you pick as your friends and saviors. If you are lucky you may live to regret your choice.
@@ostrakos4785I am from Myanmar and I will tell you china allie with junta and make human trafficking, drug , make Myanmar people into sex worker. That have been happening almost a decade in Northern Myanmar which near the china. We see a lot of Chinese boss come here to make a company or a gangster group for human trafficking , sex worker etc.
Yo WTF the flag
Top gear covered this 😂
I'm not getting involved, like Gaza.
Insufficient knowledge.
People thinking they need to have a statement and stance on every conflict is really hilarious.
no one asked
As an Indian, I don't give a shit about what happens in Myanmar. If there are no spillovers in our Nation or if no attempts are made to threaten our National integrity, We are Good.
@@patriotenfield3276No offense but I dont think anyone in Myanmar wants to immigrate to India. And historically speaking, it was millions of Indians spilling into Myanmar
@@user-pd9ju5dk5sbruv , India was scrutinized by whole woke west for not allowing Rohingya refugees . And there are many ethnicities that live both on the Indian and Myanmar side of the Indo Myanmar border like Kuki , Chin , Naga, Mizo etc . And due to war , India has seen lots of influx within these ethnic groups . Also Indo Myanmar border is among the few borders of India, where despite heavy geopolitical tensions , is rarely monitored. (Technically India and Myanmar are both friendies since 1947-1948 but the amount of narco-militant groups operating in between both nations are like in numbers of hundreds)
oh well done for actually mentioning the DEA/CIA heroin trade from burma
with americas gas pipeines through india next please
does this have anything to do with bush & DEA & 911 ???
