KitchenAid 6 Qt Professional 600 Review

- Hi Guys, today I’m reviewing the KitchenAid KP26M1XTG 6 Qt. Professional 600 Series Bowl-Lift Stand Mixer. LINK to Mixer: amzn.to/2iFiHfF LINK to Cookie Recipe:
• Soft Chewy Chocolate C...
COMPARE other Mixers here:
• Kitchenaid Stand Mixer... The Mixer is 16.50 inches tall, 11.25 inches wide and 14.50inches deep. The cord length is 45 inches long. It weighs 29 pounds so you probably want to leave it on your countertop or find a spot for it. There are 30 colors to choose from. This is tangerine. The unit is 575 watts and has 10 speeds. The stainless steel bowl has a handle and holds 6 qts. Included are a burnished metal flat beater used for cakes, frosting and cookie dough, burnished spiral dough hook for bread and pizza dough, 6 wire whip for heavy cream and egg whites, and 1 piece pouring shield. Loosen the attachment knob, slip up the hub cover and you can attach one of over 10 Kitchenaid attachments for pasta or grinding meat. The lever raises the bowl into position. The head does not tilt like some other models. The bowl lift handle is here and The bowl height adjustment screw is back here.
Attach the beater, straight up the shaft and turn right, it’ll hook onto the pin on the shaft
To attach the bowl, leave the bowl lift handle in the down position. Put the bowl over the pins and press down on the back of the bowl until you hear it snap. Raise the handle and that lifts the bowl. When you’re mixing, the handle always has to be in this position. If you’re using the pouring shield, put it on the rim of the bowl. Add ingredients through the chute. Put the handle down to lower the mixer. Remove the beater by pushing up and to the left, it slides down the shaft. Hold the bowl handle and lift the bowl straight up.
The beater should just clear the bottom of the bowl. If the beater is hitting the bottom of the bowl, turn this screw slightly counterclockwise to raise and clockwise to lower the bowl.
Before you use the mixer, wash the bowl at least 3 times to remove the dark residue. You can clearly see it. I’ve said this in most of my recent KitchenAid mixer reviews. The consumer should not have to pay hundreds of dollars to buy this mixer and then come home to clean the bowl several times. Any kitchen product you purchase will have to be given a quick cleaning before use, that’s normal. Having to wash a bowl 3 times to remove this gray residue is not normal and maybe one day KitchenAid will spend the extra few cents and clean the bowl at their factory as they should. Also wash the beater, hook and wire whip. Before mixing, I always check to make sure there is no residue left by wiping with a paper towel. This way, your butter or whipped cream won’t have grey streaks in them.
When you’re mixing anything, always start at a low speed and go up slowly. There are good tips in the manual regarding the correct speed to use for different ingredients.
The pouring shield can be washed in warm soapy water or on top rack of your dishwasher. The wire whip, dough hook and beater are hand wash only, do not put them in the dishwasher or they will be ruined. Wipe the shaft and entire mixer down with a damp cloth and dry.
I hope you found this review useful. Please subscribe and I’ll see you next time. Thanks for watching :)
By far, this is the best review of this mixer on all of RUclips. You included scores of details and demonstrated beautifully without needless chatter. What a pro.
Glad it was helpful!
Four years later, this is still the best review available, by far. Thank you!
I recently purchased this Professional 600 series mixer and I am very glad I watched your video before starting. Your video is clear and informative. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful 😀
Your reviews are always the best! My hubby just surprised me with this for a birthday gift and I'm over the top excited! Before even reading the owner's manual, I went to your channel because I know you explain things better than anything I could read and any other video out there. This video is so helpful. I feel like I can get right to play time. Thank you so much!
So happy to hear you enjoy my reviews. Enjoy the new mixer 😁
I've been interested in buying a KitchenAid mixer for some time and I've looked at a lot of videos to see it in action. This is by far the BEST(!) and most informative video I've come across in that regard. The others - including the manufacturer's videos - simply do not show the mixer in working mode, instead they display cakes and breads and such supposedly made using the KitchenAid. But you show exactly what I was looking for, the basic mechanics of using the mixer - right down to how to install and remove the bowl and blades, and even how to make minor adjustments! (Can I get you to take a look at my car, it's making a clunking sound?) Extremely well done, thank you for posting.
Thanks for the kind words! Depends on where the clunking noise is coming from, could be the suspension or brakes, just kidding 😁
YOUR car will make less noise if you drive it on roads instead of railroad tracks
I just got my new kitchenaid today. I’m glad I found your video so helpful! Thank you for all the great information!
Glad it was helpful 😀
Hi Anita !!!
I’m so glad to find you in this platform . You gave me clear perspective of kitchenaid to buy one . I have seen all your kitchenaid series videos and somehow I like the way how you pointed out the defects in them.
I’m here to say THANKS A TON . If you suggest what are the recommended baking supplies and it’s brands you use in your daily baking process can be highly appreciated.
I am banging my head to understand basics of it as it’s not easy to get all the details in a single video .
Great review. Very clear and precise. You showed and explained the different parts as well as adjustments. I also loved how you gave as examples of the quantities, how it will look and what to expect.
😁👍
This is the best mixer I could ever had !!! Very happy to invest in the best !!!
Wow, though this model is geared towards professional/commercial environments and meant for larger loads/amounts, the review was really helpful in that there were so much little things to be wary of...
Well explained, honest, clear, great detail-orientation, and very helpful! Thanks!
Glad it was helpful :)
Thank You for finally reviewing a KitchenAid Bowl Lift Stand Mixer.
😀
Thank you for this video. We just got a mixer, and had no idea where to start, and this was a great place to start.
I have a Kenmore elite 6 qt bowl lift mixer which is also manufactured by Whirlpool the parent company of kitchenaid so all the attachments and accessories will fit and are totally interchangeable. The Kenmore however comes with a bright LED light over the ball as well as an additional work bowl which is very helpful. Also the bulls have been acid washed and all of the attachments are coated
Plus I definitely agree about the Bowl. I know whenever I finally get a KitchenAid Mixer, I'm gonna have to clean the bowl when I first take this Mixer out of the box.
U should do that with anything you buy that’s an eating surface
Thank You!!!! I have been waiting for a decent review of this model!!!
Glad you liked it, Noah :)
What a fantastic and informative 12 minutes that taught me literally everything I would need to know I saw and heard is now easy to remember about my first Kitchenaid mixer.. I wondered why my bowl was tilted.
I got some great insight. Love it, thanks
Glad you liked it 😁
@bestkitchenreviews oh someone does read comments! I guess only when they are praise.
All the info I wanted was here… great review! Straight to the point and showed pretty much everything almost anyone would use it for!! Thank you!
Glad you liked it 😀
@@bestkitchenreviews yup 👍🏻
You explain things so clearly! Much better than other sites
👍
In 1987 I inherited my Grandmothers Kitchenaid mixer that she purchased in the 1950s. Its 2019 and It still works like new. (Thats 69 years old!!) For Christmas my husband bought me a new Kitchenaid Pro600. I bequeathed my old mixer to my son. He said he anticipates it lasting him til he dies. They made these things to last. I can't wait til things calm down from holiday festivities so I can begin using it. Thank you for showing me the adjustment screw. I never even noticed that
Thanks for sharing, Jill :)

Unbelievable, after so many years and still good, that what I think to buy it too, just not sure about model ... which one
Thanks so much for the video. Really helpful for the guide of basic use. I purchased a kitchen aid 6qt mixer on Costco and it has a one page instruction telling me to use some food oil to wipe on the bowl and let it stand for several seconds and then wash it with warm and soapy water. In that way I can clean the residue on the stainless bowl and other parts. It works great with mine.
Ohhh this is exactly what I've been wanting to know - how to get the black residue off, and also do we have to do anything special each time we use them besides cleaning with soap and water? Thanks so much!
Your review is very thorough and informative. I am very happy to come across your review.
Thank You 😀
Thank you for the review and demo. It’s very detailed and informative. I am glad i found your video as i now feel more confident using my new KA Pro 600.
Glad it was helpful, Juliet 😀
A well spoken, candid review and good demonstration if the machine's operation to aquatint newcomers to the Kitchen-Aid stand mixer.
Mary Riley”Well spoken” indeed! at points she had to shout at the top of her lungs to get heard over the noise of the machine
I just learned today that the screw on the top of the adjusting bowl stand is for adjusting the hook attachment. I thought for a few years I have this mixer they given me a defective hook for my mixer until today I actually watched the video. I am happy that I watched this video. I have been making sourdough bread weekly and I was tired to knee it with my hand. I'm excited to make my next bread with the hook attachment.
Thanks for sharing 😀
Such a clear straightforward demo! Thank you so much!!!!
😀👍
Precise and to the point..really enjoyed the review.
I just ordered on of these and have no idea how to use it, thanks for going through all the functions!
🤩
Best way I found to handle the black residue is put salt it and cut a lemon in half. Squeeze enough juice to make kind of a paste and use the half lemon to scrub the bowl with the juice/salt mix. You'll see the black coming off. Do a good job adding salt as needed. Then just wash with some Dawn and you're all good
Do you do this after each use or is this something that only happens on the very first use? Thank you.
I think they mean for first time use from factory.
@@marlysgilchrist9430 sorry I didn't get notified until now you commented. Yes just once from factory. After that you're fine as long as you did it really well
I just bought the KitchenAid 600 Professonal.. The beater blade, dough hook ARE COATED/dishwasher safe! The elliptical whip is dishwasher safe...but the regular wire whip should be hand-washed. I am thrilled with this machine.
Gosh! This has to be the best video for the Kitchen Aid Mixer review and it’s use on You Tube . It’s a little intimidating when u get it the mixer I purchased the 7 quart pro line my first mixer ! You have such a great video as a user I appreciated your tips and recipes. Thank you .
Glad you found it helpful 😁
I'm soooo glad I watched your video..I own this mixer for 4yrs i love it but I didn't know about that adjustment screw in the back that is very important Thank you so much.....😀😀😀
Glad it was helpful 😀
Stephanie Shearer then you must not have read the instruction book...

Excellent review, very detailed and informational
Thanks 😀
Excellent review. I had to sell mine because it's too loud! Got KA Pro 6000 HD instead. Quiet and works like a dream.
I finally broke down and purchased this mixer. Thank you for posting such a very informative video on the different, most common, uses for this mixer. I'm thinking snickerdoodles for the first batch to break this in. :) I also purchased the ice cream maker...it's going to be a Very Merry Holiday season. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge with this particular Kitchen Aid Mixer.
Glad it was helpful 😁
Had mine for the last 15 years, no problems what so ever, it all depends on how you are representing this brand, and like any other mixer, they sale the edge clean beater so you don't have to stop to scrape the sides of the bowl, so far and according to other companies testing this particular item, they are the best
Thanks for sharing 😀
Can you speak to having problems with attachments having black all over them? Do they need special cleaning every time we use them? Thanks so much
Thanx 4Teaching me how to use my new kitchen gadget, by the way ur cookies look scrumptious.
Thanks 😀
Excellent review. Great help to me a first time buyer and user. Thanks for the help.
Glad it was helpful 👍😀
Did not know that the screw on there was to adjust height. Learn something new all the time.
Of course, you could have read the owner's manual.
@@philipwebb960 Older models do not have this screw for adjustment
It is a nice feature I have an older K-5//a that does not reach the bottom of the bowl, thanfully a Beater blade does, and mixes more efficiently, scrapes the sides too!
Wonderful information thank you so much mines is coming this week! Can't wat to get it!
👍
I Have one of these but the older model my accessories are coated in white plastic. Love it its great
Thanks for sharing :)
Do you mind sharing the bread recipe? I could always watch again and write down your instructions I guess lol.
I just got this mixer today and I can not wait to use it! 😍
just bought one 6QT can't wait to use it.
Enjoy 😀👍
Try bcoz my work only one month and motor burn.
Thank you your review of the product was very helpful and the tip too

You are very professional. Thanks for posting.
Love the pouring shield. Thanks for such great detail.

Excellent review, thanks !
You're welcome, Marchella :)
KitchenAid possibly sprays the stainless steel and metal parts with a protective coating to protect and maintaining the shine. Many shop tools are also shipped in this manner as well.
I got the final solution for the black powder, today I bought a artisan and I've realized the dirt coming from the bowl is the rest from the brushing process, and I think they lubricate the process with oil, that's why the black stuff is so hard to remove with normal soap, I recommend using degreaser ( a good one) to remove all that dust, is easy, I just washed it once and it ended up clean and ready to use!
What type of degreaser and is it food safe since it’s in the bowl?
@@rubyoro0 Barkeepers Friend will remove it and it won't harm the bowl.
My KitchenAid model 5K5SS already 20 years old. Still as good as new and working perfectly. I added another bowl to my collection for easy beating butter and meringue separately. A very good investment but love your colour. Those time only a few colour available, mine is white with dough and butter hook same colour only eggbeater are stainless steel.
Thanks for sharing 😁
@@bestkitchenreviews You are most welcome🥰
I’ve had mine for 10+ years. Thankfully, it was a gift from my fiancé. I always make quadruple batches of cookies so I can freeze some. It takes as much time as a single batch.
I found your shield interesting. Mine is 2 pieces. The Shute is separate. I think I like mind better because it covers all of the bowl and keeps flour dust in.
My mother’s still runs, too. She got hers as a wedding gift in 1950. Hope mine lasts that long. Thank you for your review. I didn’t realize there was a height adjustment either. Hmm, maybe I should read the books that came with it. :)
Thanks for sharing 😀
This was an excellent review, thank you very much.
🤩
I have the 5 qt and I love that it’s not a tilt but it is huge
Thanks for sharing 😀
This!!!! This is so detailed!! Thank you!!!
😁
Wow, this is a good video review! thank you!
To ALL owners of kitchen aid mixers... Every couple of years, take off the top gear head cover. Wipe off the old grease, and put fresh gear grease on. This takes all of three or four minutes from start to finish. Your mixer will last forever... I have done this on old mixers and they were bone dry. Once completed....they sounded and worked like new again...:-)
What kind of grease you put in?
@@rxxhxx4858 Standard wheel bearing grease which can be found at Walmart in the automotive department...will work just fine. I did this on a unit, a cousin was going replace, and instead of buying a new mixer... it fixed the problem and the unit is still going strong years later
How do you do it
Very helpful video!! Thank you
That orange color looks great!
😁
Very helpful and informative. Thank you.
👍😁
Does anyone know if the spiral dough hook keep the dough in the bowl or does it ride it upwards? I saw emanel coated spiral dough hooks promising to keep the dough from riding up but I was wondering if I really need to buy that coated one or if the one that came with the mixer is good enough.
Excellent review
😀👍
could you tell me the recipe site you mentioned, couldn't make it out with the mixer going..Thank you, a great video too
I bought mine as a factory refurbish. It's just as good as new for half the price.
Great Review! Thank you.
👍
Oh wow 349!!! I paid almost 700 for it and I like my tilt head better. You did a great job on reviewing the mixer because that residue was going to be the death of me. I couldn’t figure out what was going on and I washed that bowl so many times
Thanks for sharing 😀
What a great color
Im looking for the pro mixer with the quiet DC motor..
apparently not easy to find.
Have a 5qt. Buying a 6qt for bigger doughs. ( Kitchen aid ). I knead for a short time. On average 2 minutes. 70 % to 80% hidration for the dough. 🍞 is great.
Very Helpful! Thank you!
👍😁
Great review..
Just a small point that you can easily remove and replace the bowl whether it is up or down.
Brand new to your channel… Thank you this is very helpful as one of my attachments (the beater) is hitting the bottom of the bowel so I could lock the lever and had no idea what was happening
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome job doing this review! When you get a chance to, can you review the KitchenAid Classic Plus stand mixer?😊
I will add it to the list 😀
wondering...could you spray the hooks and beaters before use with a vegetable or olive oil to avoid the dough or other ingredients from sticking to them?
Bravo!!! Great tutorial!
Thanks 😁
Great job young lady.
Thanks, Christopher 👍
Thank you so much was very helpful
😁👍
Thanks for the video review. Very informative and well done.
We've had a K5SS for over 20 years. It recently gave up the ghost and we had some discussions on how to select replacement(s). Since we do a large amount of baking, we decided on the Bosch Universal Plus (Black & Stainless) for heavy loads and this Kitchenaid mixer for all other uses. We kept all of our attachments from the K5SS, hoping they might fit the new model. UPDATE: 12/4/2019. We received the mixer. Included were COATED beater and dough hooks... NOT burnished metal. used it twice so far on some light mixing. Seems significantly more powerful than the old K5SS, but lighter in weight. (The attachments from the old K5 do NOT fit this new mixer. Bummer)
Thank you, I didn’t know how to get the bowl off
😁
thnks! I'm ready to unboxing my new one :)
Hope you enjoy it!
Just saying this mixer in general has attachment to bowl clearance issues, you’ll usually have to adjust the screw after unboxing. Might be why people review it poorly
I love this
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
😀
I have the same mixer but different color. I like mine.i have the flex edge beater does ok.
Thanks for sharing 😀
would have loved to see how that bread turned out. do you have a video on that?
Hello....My owners manual says the beater, bowl and dough hook are dishwasher safe? What gives?
I love this 💕🎉 stand mixer
👍🤩
I just got one of these. I haven't unboxed it yet. Thanks for the tips. Regarding the residue, I'm thinking of using a magic eraser and water to clean the bowl's residue.
Can't believe the stupidity of knocking the machine because she was too lazy to wash the bowl. Any metal parts that come in contact with food should be WELL washed.
@@lmfinato as if a simple wash does the job. kitchenaid knows they are sending out units that will be expected to be foodsafe, yet they dont bother cleaning the stuff off themselves. sounds like a company that doesnt value its consumers anymore.
it isnt stupid to expect basic cleaning and sanitizing of the food prep machines before leaving the factory. we should demand better standards of a company that demands such a premium price for a basic appliance.
@@notreal5299 I wonder if people will say it’s used if there is residue in bowl. I came across a ton of Target reviews saying a type of model were used and “shame on Target for selling returned products”. I then came across a comment in a video saying that they are greased for transport and are not used.
Any comments on how to keep attachments clean that were mistakenly put in the dishwasher? Like the bread hook, etc. - to get the black stuff off? And does one need to do special cleaning of these every time we use them? I"m new at this! Thanks so much!
Thanks so much for this tutorial! I have this mixer. My bowl cleaned easily so that was not issue. I do however have an issue with the beater attachment in that it rotates too far away from the bowl just like yours did in this video and I have to continually scrape the bowl which I find a bit annoying. I think maybe it was simply adjusted too low and will give this a try and see if that helps. Other than that, I do love it. Just like yours it is louder than my K5 series but not so much that I find it distracting. If the adjustment doesn't do the trick I may resort back to my K5 and try sell this one.
Have you tried a Flex edge beater or Beaterblade?
@@russ5024 No not yet. I wanted to find one but didn't have any luck online. I started looking and the website kept redirecting me to other attachments I didn't need and I lost patience. I'll look again and hopefully find one.
There is a screw to adjust the bowl height. this is easily fixed. The reviewer should have been aware of this issue.
@@cathycullen8851 Thanks much. At around 4:30, she actually does mention and points to the bowl height adjustment screw.
Thank for the info do you know the max capacity for floor in the bowl
Hi there, great video. Could you help me with something? I just opened my stand mixer and the "elevator" is making a lot of noise when i make pizza dough, hears like something loose, each spin is one metal beat. It is very noisy. is it normal?
Do you find the bowl and the dough hook a bit stinky? Like a metallic stink?
Great job
Thank you!
😀
How is it with pizza dough (65% hydration) about 6 -14" pies. Thanks.
Could you please do a review of the Kitchenaid professional HD stand mixer?
I'm on my third kitchenaid mixer, this time I bought the 6qt. I have had the same problem with all of them...….the slide speed adjuster quits working very quickly....you have to move it up and down to get it to work...….I still keep purchasing the kitchenaid because other than the speed adjuster problem, it does all the jobs I expect it to do......
Thanks for sharing 😀
In place of buying new ones you can get the problem fixed with a diy or have someone do it for you. The speed adjuster is definitely fixable. Hope that helps.
Hello, is it normal for the bowl to rock when you're mixing it?
I wonder if the tools that are not dishwasher safe can be dipped in that latex for hand tools which adds grip? Not sure if it's food safe though.
