- Sharing a quick video of some of the largest shopping stores in Fairbanks, Alaska for anyone considering moving here, visiting, or just curious about life in Fairbanks, Alaska.
I was born and raised there. Thanks for the video. Makes me homesick.
Were you an Eielson AFB 👶???
Thank you so much for doing this! I am going pcs to Alaska. Me and my wife enjoyed your tour seeing we did not know what to expect. Exactly what we wanted to see. We are good to go now. Thank you!!!!
We’re Pcsing there in April and I am so happy to know they’ve opened Costco. 😅😂
Thanks for posting this. We were stationed up there in 2006-2009 and watching this sure brought back some good memories! ❤️
I don't see any issue with the shopping mall. Very much reminds me of the mall in Andalusia, Alabama when I was a youngster. Harkens back to a sadly bygone era. The sole reason I am moving my company and family to the Fairbanks area is the simplicity up there. I do appreciate the time you took to show your subscribers exactly what a modern small town truly offers, that being a relaxing environment and a simple life. Looking forward to seeing more videos of Fairbanks and the surrounding area, if that is your plan.
I was stationed up at Ft. Wainwright from 87 to 91. I miss it so much that I wish I had never left at times. Your tour is very helpful and informative. Much has changed since I left. Keep these fine clips comming.
I was in 5/9 Infantry from 87-91. Do I know you? And I agree about wishing I never left, but in my case, Ft. Polk called...sigh
Your name isn't familar. I was in A. Co. We were in the same batallion though.
And i thought my husband was the only one doing ipcot 85-97 i delivered mail he was transportation EAFB yet most our friends were on Ft Wainwright 5/9 and Field Artillery scuffles what memories
I was moving to Fairbanks for a time back in about 2010 - Had even found home schooling with a hub for my children and had done much research on life there. I had even found a knitting store!! I am so sorry we never made it up there - long story but maybe one day I'll get the chance to visit. I really enjoy the video's of all these places one would never otherwise see. Thank you.
I was there 99-02. I miss Fairbanks and would like to go back. I don't remember having a Walmart when I was there though. So many memories. Thank you for this video!
here Carlos once again...... the best and i forgot to mention.... Golden Heart Plaza as well as Cushman ave...... nice tks for sharing, the Eden city...
Planning to life their in the future. I love to live cold places in my opinion and Fairbanks, Alsaka seem to be a nice place to live. Love from Michigan! ❤️
Same here. I'm from Sacramento California and the last time it snowed her was 2009. I want to live in Fairbanks in the future.
lived there as a kid, loved it
Thank you so much for making this!
What a neat video! Thanks for sharing
I’m moving there so thank you it was helpful ❤️
Thanks for this! We’ll be up there in October! They have way more store there then we had in Hawaii
Hey sister!! Thanks for the tour. Glad to know what your town looks like.
Hey! 🙋🏼♀️ It’s small but doable! 😀
I WAS LIVING IN BUFFALO NEW YORK FOR ALMOST 27 YEARS, I LIKE THE FAIRBANKS SHOPPING AREA!!!!!!!!
Interesting video about Fairbanks. This video showed up on my recommendation list. Enjoyed watching it. Greetings from Everett Washington
We are from SC and were up there a few weeks ago. Absolutely fell in love with Fred Meyers. I wish they’d come to my area and give Walmart a run for their money.
Yes Yes Yes lived in North Pole 85'-97' moved to Columbia SC my ❤ was crushed no Fred Meyers
you might get lucky and get a Meijer one day out of Michigan
I am thinking about moving there and bringing my arcade there you also made a nice video keep up the good work for 2018
what a lovely person you seem to be. be well, be blessed i visited 17 years ago for only a few days but then went to anchorage for many weeks, (spenard hostel wow) and home to nw fla. I dont think any of this was there then. not sure tho.
I live in Ketchikan and I'm Soooo jealous of all the stores y'all have! Man I wish we had a Costco or Sam's Club down here.
Omg love your videos, I live in Fairbanks AS WELL :0
Thank you for the informative video. I am PCSing up to Fairbanks, soon and have no idea what to expect.
Nice video. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome video! I saw a Carl Jr's and Blockbuster video, I will survive!
Carl’s Jr. shut down here unfortunately:/
Thanks for the video. I was born in Fairbanks and we moved when I was 16. Sure has changed since way back then. I enjoyed your video tour. Gavora Mall used to have Pay N Save and Market Basket grocery store when I was there. There was Safeway, Woolworths, and JC Penney downtown.
Thanks for this video! On the one hand, it's impressive (and reassuring) that if I ever go to Fairbanks, I'll already be familiar. But on the other hand, it's kind of sad. Your business district looks just like suburban Chicago or Las Vegas or Santa Fe, or Nashville, or San Jose, or a thousand other American cities.
Thank you! I am actually going up to work at a resort outside of Fairbanks. I was wondering what they had up there for stores in Fairbanks! This video really helped! Coming from Oregon, I love Fred Meyers!
David Mays I wish I could switch places with you to live in Oregon
What's it called? I might come up there if I move
Thank you so much for sharing very nice and informative video
thanks for sharing! grate video
Brown Jug deserves more respect than just "a liquor store" lol
I grew up there in the mid to late 80s, I remember there being a fred meyers only, and there was a place called "the center", roller skating, a movie theater. All too vague I was just a kid.
I already know about Denny's, Super 8 Hotel, Home Depot and Walmart from my two visits in June 2017 and 19.
Great video 👌
I can't wait to move to Fairbanks
Peter Lee yes
Can you give me a job
@@jennythebean9117 you don’t, it’s a very boring city, unless you’re an outdoor lady
@@NuttyNu I live in Fairbanks
Are there any T-Mobile stores? What do you all use for internet?
I’m moving to Fairbanks next month I cannot wait
Thank you so much for making this! I'm an incoming freshman at UAF and I'm moving up there in August. I need to shop there for most of my dorm room essentials and this was very helpful!
I remember vacationing up there around 1990 during the summer solstice and at the time they were building their taco bell at around 1AM .
So cool to see my old stomping ground.
Downtown Fairbanks shopping? In the 70's Nordstrom's and JC. Penneys were the big department stores. Thanks for sharing!
Fred Meyer and safeway, when I lived there, market basket was there,no longer, many of the strip malls from the seventies were torn down and replaced with new strip malls.
I 💘 Market Basket
I was born there and it was amazing to live there :)
This was super helpful! Could you give some tips on how to dress for the Fairbanks winter? Thank you!
Dress warm.
Its been long time just curious wasnt there a Woolsworth? Nordstroms and a Fred Myers? If no longer there what is there now?
Woah 😳 I click on this video out of Curiosity and the moment you popped up on screen I thought you were Ana from Frozen.
We are planning to move to Fairbanks 2021. Thanks for the video.
Come to Tucson Arizona and pick me up
Thanks for the video! Super helpful 😊
Hey Heidi! I’m so happy you found it helpful! Let me know if you have suggestions for future videos of things you would like to see. 😀
Ilove you
I was born in Fairbanks my father was in the army thank you for sharing
This is awesome. We PCS to Fairbanks next year and I'm slowly preparing myself for what I got myself into hahaha
Me and my husband PCS there too, next month
@@nyahnyyy did you join any of the Facebook groups? Alot of the people on there are also super helpful 🤗
What's "PCS?"
how difficult is it to drive in snow?
Looks like a nice place to live or visit. What time is it there on the date of the video?
I like this video. I do wonder, do y'all have a Wendy's in Fairbanks? That's a GREAT restaurant chain! But so are Subway, McDonald's and the other restaurants you showed. BTW, what time of year did you shoot this video? It's a good deal of fun to watch. Have fun, and stay safe, y'all!
What about the whole south end of town ?over on Airport or Cushman?
parabéns pelo vídeo gostei muito e adoro o frio
Barnes and Noble! Ugh. We dont have that store in Panama city bch fla wow :(
It cracks me up that y’all have a Papa John’s in Fairbanks but I don’t have one and I live right outside the Bay Area in California lmao!! Not gonna lie...little jelly hahaha
Believe Hayward area has Papa John's Pizza.
We don't even have a Papa John's in Tucson Arizona
I enjoyed your video 📹 ☺️
What is PCSing? I’m moving there in about five days and I can’t wait!!!
There are malls like those all over the US. Let's get a look at the Chena river, 2 street, and more of the Cushman street bridge area. you did show the Chamber of Commerce, CatHolic church and it looks like the Daily News-Miner is still in the same place. Do a video of you driving up and down the streets of downtown. That would be a good video. I haven't seen Squarebanks since the nineties. What little you showed I barely recognized.
That is funny. I grew up there and the only thing i recognized was Cushman street and when I was there it was only two lanes but then that was back in the 1960s.
Did you go to the News-Miner building and see yourself on their webcam located at the window on the top floor. My dad saw me in June 2019 when I wished him Happy Father's Day from Fairbanks, Alaska.
I'm coming there tomorrow
I have 10x the amount of stores In walking distance to my home now .. cool video def gonna pass on Fairbanks tho , i just hate driving .
Way bigger than I expected, I live in the woods of NH and that is like a big city to me. How are the distant neighbourhoods? I dont mind driving 30-45 minutes for groceries.
Is the Fred Meyer on the corner of Old Airport Way still there ? I was there in October 2000. I ate dinner at that Fred Meyer hot food deli every night. Cheap and good food.
Yes its still there
Gonna be moving their in a few months thanks for the video 💕do people have chickens up their ? U think they survive...an how cold does it get
Tonia Castro , I have a few friends up here that have chickens. A coop with good insulation is helpful. I’ve experienced -43° as the lowest, but it can get as low as -60°...I just haven’t experienced that yet since I’ve lived here.
If it gets too cold I will warm you up
Will be visiting Fairbanks for the first time next month, enjoyed this video! Is there usually still snow on the ground in late April?
Alison Jordan yes there is still snow
Hey do you guys have any Best Buy, Krispy Kremes, Costco or a Target stores in Fairbanks, Ak!!!!
Are there thrift shops?
Its hella cold in fairbanks rn
When we lived there back in the 80s. There were four main malls that I remember . The Bentley mall , Govora, university mall and shoppers forum.
You mean halls?
@@tazlina77 Halls? Who refers to a shopping mall as a "Hall"?
jimmymckay73 If you had lived long enough in fairbanks, you would have known what i am talking about😉. Mall? In fairbanks? Hahahaha
aurora please enlighten me as to what you are speaking of.
Could you show some grocery prices???
Is there a movie theatre that I thot that I saw in part of your video? Tell us about that.....
I can understand sports authority closing. Not much need for sports equipment when it's cold and dark for half of the year. Don't see any need for golf equipment or golf courses for a short warm season. I'm glad you are happy there, that's all that matters.
I ahve seen all of thease becuase I live here but mice video!!
You were right by REI, one of the most important stores for Alaskan living.
I bet it's the most expensive store in Alaska to
I live in Fairbanks i love great Alaska pizza company and blockbuster
Hayden Porter me too! :)
same
" My Apologies " she Did mention some major Grocery stores @ 5:58 & 7:37 and
Walmart was mentioned @ 3:03 And also " Sam's Club " @ 2:11 .
What is the housing market up there. Prices.
I’m moving from New York City to fair bank ? Any tips to adjust
Winter months layer your clothing start with a good pair of thermal long johns n long sleeve 👕
I’m hoping to visit my uncle next year
Do you have dunkin donuts there where all workers are from India? I ask because here in New York city they are all hindis...
Can see video on fairbank hospital and and school close in Alaska fairbank
That's more than enough for me. Wal-Mart had me sold.
Thanks for the video.
I really want to move to Alaska from NY. Not sure where but need a career and location change.
Did You relocate to the area?
@@earthlycolorbrown6246 no.
Trying for grand rapids, MICHIGAN
Did you see B&N made the list for BEST bookstore in FB? Like Gulliver’s is even close 😂
Couple years from now I hope to be up at UAF
“Alaska still has blockbuster”
Welp that statement didn’t last long
😂😂😂
@@oriolesfan129 The only Blockbuster left on this earth is in Bend, Oregon (Redbox and streaming outlets like Netflix have killed Blockbuster).
Lot of cracked windshields in Alaska?
Michael Kurz , very much so! It’s just kind of a way of life up here. Gravel roads + pea gravel put down in parking lots when it snows = constant rocks hitting the windshield.
@@thefrozenpeach9119 about 70% people here in Phoenix Arizona would love to live in Alaska, the summer here this year was so bad, I run my A/C year round in my house
I know exactly where you're at. I ate at McD's, shopped at the Walmart and catnapped for a few hours in the Home Depot parking lot. You are near the Steese Highway that leads to the Elliott Highway and finally the Dalton Highway known as the Ice Road.
Is the blockbuster & Barnes & noble still open? Starbucks?
Blockbuster has closed but B&N and Starbucks are open. Since this video, Sams Club has closed but we have a Costco in its place now.
wow.... nice video, superdetailed, are there any Chilean or south American restaurants or foods...? cheers fm Chile.
carlos77534 , I don’t believe there are any Chilean restaurants here 😕
Carlos looks like you should move there and open a restaurant to share your cuisine with everyone!
looks lovely is there a Target there?
CGA , unfortunately we do not have one in Fairbanks. Hopefully one day. There are two Targets in Anchorage and one in Wasilla (about six hours south of Fairbanks).
I am thinking of moving up there
Hey, Frozen Peach please tell me who is your internet provider in fairbanks? in california it frontier, spectrum. they are the main two.
Dbusdriver71 , GCI and ACS are the two main local providers.
Thanks for the response. Please keep the vids comming; you do really great work!
any hostels?
Looks like there's more there than in the Washington Baltimore area.
You should do a vlog at Alaska land
