  • Bretman Rock is a wildly popular RUclipsr, reality TV star, and now author, with the book You're That Bitch hitting shelves on February 14. But when Bretman isn't busy taking over the world, he's snacking on some iconic snacks from his childhood in the Philippines. From the proper way to unwrap a piece of Choc-Nut, to the importance of sourcing dried mango directly from the motherland, Bretman gives a master's class in classic Filipino snacks and candies.

Since Bretman has an Ilocano Word of the Day, there's one term he said that I should share & highlight to our lovely non-Filipino viewers:
Sari-Sari store - a convenience store/retail shop equivalent, but more focused on a community level. Sari-Sari in Filipino means *variety.*

Variety is an understatement. My Lola is still doing business as a sarisari store vendor, and she has everything. From food, to beverage, to alcoholic beverage, to medical supplies, to school supplies, to art supplies, and she even used to operate her own telecom prepaid load service. Nowadays she is to old to keep stock of everything, so she reduced it to food and beverage.

HOWEVER the Piattos flavor sold here are DIFFERENT; we have BBQ, Grilled Beef, Nori Seaweed, and Cheese for the regular, and Indonesia-exclusive flavors like Sambal Geprek (Chicken Smackdown's Sambal Spread), Sambal Matah (Balinese-style Raw Chili Sambal), Iga Penyet (Smashed Beef Ribs), Ayam Goreng (Traditional Herb-infused Fried Chicken), and I believe there's new flavor which they collaborated with a chili flakes condiment brand where their garlic-infused chili flakes are used as a seasoning for the chips

I thought Bretman was going to include Ricoa Flat Tops. My New Zealand friends always asked for me to send them huge 400-pc bags.
It started with me giving them a 20-pc bag each for dessert when they visited me here and then they would have another everyday until they would occasionally crave for it once they returned back home. They said it’s not as smooth as Belgian chocolates but Flat Tops beat Pringles with its slogan.
