I was happy to see a long vlog, because it's like having a good visit with a friend during the day. Congratulations on having such a successful #sewfugal! I didn't participate this year, because I'm just dipping my toe into garment making, but I'm planning to add to your numbers next year. 🙂 It's one of my goals to be able to start taking part in some challenges by the end of summer. I love gauze, and the blouse you're wearing is sew cute. Love the print on the fabric. Great planner... I'll look into getting one of those. It was so fun hearing about your trips to the different shows and meeting up with your sewing friends. I don't know if we have many shows like that around here, but it's something I'll have to look into. Hopefully, as I get more into my sewing journey, I'll be able to make some friends I can share the hobby with, too. You all seem to get so much encouragement and inspiration from each other, and it's great that you're sharing so much with us. I'm sure I'm not the only one who watches and hopes we can find similar friendships for ourselves. In the meantime, it's a joy to be invited into yours from time to time. Loved seeing all your treasures that you've accumulated. Looking forward to seeing them show up in future projects.
Thank you - and yes you are definitely invited into our friendship 💖 Reaching out to people who love the same things as you is always the way to go - hobby friendships are the best xx
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, to both you and Sam for all your hard work. I am new to Indy patterns and the RUclips sewing community. The second week of March 2023 I stumbled on to a video that Sam did about the #sewfrugal2023 and I’ve been hooked ever since. I’m having the time of my life. 🥰🥰
I think I bought the last 4 metres of the teal animal print fabric at the Stitch Festival ... including the piece they had on the wall as a display 😂 I'm currently watching your video whilst making it up into an Avenir jumpsuit! 😊
Thanks for all your hard work, along side your co organisers, for both the challenges. I was lucky enough to win a prize in so frugal 🎉Great vlog, great buys and plans. I’ve taken the pressure off myself with the Gathering outfit and I’m frugally wearing something I’ve already made and hardly worn😂
Thanks for hosting Sew Frugal again this year. I've entered every year and was so made up that I won a prize this year 😀 I bought that fabric from Stitch Fabrics after seeing everyone purchase it at the Stitch Festival. I've just made it into a top but I'm not sure the fabric suits me. I think your dress will look fab in it!
I spotted you from a distance at the Sewing for Pleasure show, you were deep in conversation at a stall. It was much quieter on the Sunday, than in previous years. So glad I found your channel, absolutely love your chats!!
Lovely to catch up with you Ruan. The Deer & Doe dress pattern looks really interesting, not one I've come across before, hope you enjoy sewing it. Love all your other purchases too!
Haha! That teal animal print! I was stood next to the lady who bought the last 2 m off the bolt AND the piece that was hanging on their display board! If she hadn’t nabbed it I totally would have 😅
I haven't been to any shows since before covid; I seem to have forgotten how to take a trip anywhere! I am definitely missing out. Next year I will really make the effort to get to the Stitch Festival. I love your earrings and Pigeon Wishes buttons, but your bright animal print fabric is WOW. The dress in the teal fabric will be amazing. Everyone needs an enabling friend like Rachel :-)
Thanks for sharing all your lovely fabric and buttons Ruan. I went on the Sunday and it was a lot quieter but it did get busy towards the end because it closes earlier. 💙🧶🌈🍓
Thank you so much for your company tonight… I love a long vlog from you! We had an absolute ball with both of you at the sewing for pleasure and your kind words just warm my heart ❤️ You have an amazing haul there! Love the Ethel and Joan buttons… her big neon orange ones were so tempting! Xx
What a lovely long chatty video Ruan, really entertaining and full of fun.You have bought some amazing fabrics l love all of them and I am so looking forward to seeing what you make. Thank you for all you do.❤
… Ruan I love every single thing you got .. gorgeous well thought out great fabrics with amazing buttons … but , listen .. please make that shirt for your hubby … he will be so happy .. 😍😍😍‼️.. also , record some of your circee dress sewing , I love that dress and would love to see it come alive .. hugs Ruan , thank you for always bringing such genuine happy energy xo Monica
I rarely comment on anyone's channel however everytime you wear that Marney blouse I think it's fabulous! My favorite of your makes as well. Double gauze is just the most comfy fabric, you should make another. Thanks for your content and sunny personality!
I really enjoyed this. I stopped what I was doing to watch it which is unusual. There is a kids book that has animals made up of 2 different ones. So my daughter made a fabric picture when she was in lower school. She took it to school and then they all did one. She is 26 now, so a long while ago. Last week I went to a craft fair with the aim of buying some bottom weight plain fabric that was not black or navy. I bought some teal linen/visvose/polyester mix. Then I went to higgs and higgs stand and there was a ribbed jersey that I loved and a cotton/linen mix that I thought that I could make a blouse for sewaprilblouse, so I had to get it, didn't I? I have since looked at loads of patterns and cannot quite make up my mind what to make. Thanks for an enjoyable little video. It left me smiling
You made some lovely purchases. I used to be grab all the fabric at the stitch festival but went with a list too which i managed to find. Labels, a pattern but not the buttons I wanted. Then I bought some random fabric but not that much. I’ve been on different days and it wasn’t as busy on the Saturday as I’d envisaged. I heard a stall holder say they sell the best fabric on the first day! I agree about accessibility as there are a lot of stairs. I also had my little suitcase as find it hard to carry things. I wish I’d looked at earrings at Ethel and Joan but it wasn’t on my list. 😆I was pleased to see you three girls near Roy’s material world and say hi. We had a lovely day and watched the two catwalks, which were fabulous. 😊
Thanks for a fab video Ruan, and special thanks for the preview of the project book 😍. As soon as I saw your fabric from Sister Mintaka I could see a Saltwater Slip , brilliant for holidays and as there isn’t too much cutting it would show off the fabric brilliantly. Im sure whatever you decide to make in it will be fabulous as ever. Happy Sewing.
Wow, sounds like you really had fun 😊. Love all your fabrics, earrings (my husband would LOVE those buttons, not gonna show him 😅), haberdashery and of course your project from Adam. I have several things from Adam and I just adore them ❤. I keep track of my projects in a plain notebook which is great because I don’t need to everything uniformed 😁. I’m a maverick! Thank you for sharing! Your friend Diane ❤
Great vlog. I loved hearing all about the shows. In the US most of the shows seem to be quilt shows which I love too but I haven't been to one in years. Thank you for talking about accessibility. As a disabled person, I really appreciate it.Personally I love longer videos!
As the notification pop up … I’m on it girl 😂 the black and white binding on the project bag kinda reminds me of beetle juice - just don’t say it three times 😂 18:24 oh yes there was a lift accessible to all floors but it was so busy at times on Saturday - it was difficult to navigate through the crowds.and thank you for the mention- so happy you like your wee gonk (Berlin Christmas Market and there were so many to choose from!). ❤
Well done for sticking to your purchasing plan! I'm living vicariously through other people's hauls until I've used enough of my fabric to have space! That leopard fabric is stunning (and also reminds me of those craft kits where you scratch away black paint in a pattern to reveal the colours underneath). I think I'd want it to be made in quite a plain pattern so that the print can speak for itself without being interrupted by seams. Thank you for the time you put into these.
We went to both shows on a saturday last year, but found the nec much better due to the size of the halls it made it feel less congested I guess. The only thing we missed about the stitch show was seeing all you lovely vloggers 😊. Maybe someone could hold a vlogger convention 😁
I was so gutted when I realised you were at the show on the same day but did not bump into you! And I must admit I think I got some of the last metres of that amazing rayon jacquard at Rosenberg - everyone was giving me the death stare because I asked for 5m and there was not much left 😅😂 but Im 6ft so there was no choice lol it will look SO gorgeous in this Deer & Doe pattern 😮😮😮 adding this pattern to my list!! I prefer your longer videos even though I'm not the greatest at commenting but making it a habit this year 😊🤗!
Me - I can’t afford to buy any fabric this month. Teal jacquard animal print style viscose at £6 a metre 🥰, get in my basket 😅. Thanks Ruan 😂. To be fair I wanted a fabric to test the TATB Mable top before I cut in to my expensive fabric to make the dress 👗. I hope you get your dress made in this fabric, it will be stunning 😍. Would love to go to a show but Cornwall is so far from everywhere! Love seeing what you all got up to xx
Thank you lovely lady, you looked fabulous in my/your jacket :) it was wonderful to meet you for a few moments, hopefully we will get to meet again very soon, can't wait to see your Maison Fauve makes xx
Great vlog. I saw the Rosenberg fabric at the Stitch show but resisted, then watched Loves red showing it in her vlog and went online and ordered it as well 😂
Great to see you again. You are forgiven because you did so much throughout December then sew frugal and with northern sewl sisters ❤Interesting to hear your take on the two shows. I couldn’t go to either this year due to health issues but your vlogs and others around you have kept me going. I am hoping to make a blouse in April and the Marne has been on my list for a while. I always love to see you in yours the colours are so good on you. Look forward to seeing your reveal later in the month xx
I always enjoy your videos - long or short. I went to the Stitch Festival on the Sunday. It was indeed quiet in the morning although it started to get busier by midday but I don't know what the afternoon was like as I had to leave a bit early. It was nice to wander around sussing out everything. I really loved the gallery where the indie businesses were and got the chance to chat for quite a long time with various vendors, as they had the time. But, as you say, the stock was a bit depleted. Ethel & Joan didn't have a lot left but I still managed to buy some gorgeous buttons, including clouds. Only disappointment was not seeing any of the vloggers I follow on Sunday. But it was still great to go.
I went to the stitch festival for the very first time this year, had never been to any sewing related show and went on the Saturday. I felt so overwhelmed, people were queuing around the building to get in 🫣 Next time I’ll definitely go Friday or Sunday instead 😅
Yes there's always a queue to start off with but when everyone was in it wasn't too bad thankfully. Think Sunday would be the best day if you would prefer it quieter though 😊
Honestly I could watch you for hours. Loved being part of sew frugal and we were both lucky enough to win a prize. Thank you both for such a great challenge! It was such a joy to meet you all in person. I kinda wish we had had more time to chat with you all. It was just so busy there. We're definitely going to go for 2 days next time as we missed so many stalls. The best bit was meeting all the vloggers and viewers! Amazing! Lovely purchases 😍💜
So glad that I managed to meet you, Rachel and Tamlyn at the Stitch festival on the Saturday. I'm a big fan of your videos and find them very inspiring. You did better than me with the purchases, I'm a terror when I can actually feel the fabrics and see the true colour. Looking forward to next year!
Enjoy the long videos, it gives me an excuse to sit and have a good long cuppa break. I wish we had the stitch festivals here. I don't think we have had anything like that since before covid and that was catered to quilters and crafters which is fine but it would be nice to have something like the stitch festival. So just a little jealous. I think that Kristen from the Dahlia Sewsociety, Australia , made the Deer and Doe dress for the frocktails in Melbourne last year and it was very flattering. I think it"s the sleeves it just looks elegant. I think that material you are going to use is just lovely. Thanks for the entertaining videos and I love a gnome or two but had never heard them referred to as gonks, must be a UK thing.
Ruan, I am 63 and cannot sew at all. You have inspired me to buy a sewing machine. You are such a lovely lady. Please can you advise the easiest sewing machine to use for a complete novice? I am not good at tec so keep that in mind. Also because of this I have no idea how to buy you a coffee but if you are ever in Swansea I will definitely buy you one plus cake! X
Oh that's amazing!! So glad you're feeling inspired to sew! Instead of buying one I'd be tempted to see if there are any lessons in your local area - that way you could see of you like it or not? If you definitely want to buy one though I would start off with a very basic one - most makes do a starter machine. That way you can upgrade later on if you fall in love with it like I have 😊
Lovely to hear about all what you have been up to. I was at the stitch festival on the Thursday and was hoping to see you and the rest of the girls. It was my first time there and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Ruan, I love long videos! You are *literally* a direct alternative to Netflix, etc. If a video is too short (under 10 minutes) I will often opt not to watch it.
Thanks so much for the info on the sewing project book. I wanted to buy one but didn't know what was inside. I won't be filling in the 'cost' section either! :D x
Ruan enjoyed the vlog very much you always lift my spirits. I had to ask where you got or where I might find that animal print with the bright colored floral type print, I just love it. Thanks so much.
The Bargello Edit outlet shop on Etsy have got the labels on sale at the moment at a knock-down price if you're interested. Great video Ruan, always inspiring 😊
That emporia pattern would showcase the fabric from stitch festival, with the large print it would be really unbroken with that large skirt and showcaee the hidden animals beeeyoooteafully lol Was so good to meet you in person, I meant to send you the picture...I look like a little leprechaun beside you 😂😂 The red/pink pigeon wishes buttons were very delicious,ni had my eye on those as well lol Bless you on your sneeze BTW 🤣🤣
Ruan i have just discovered your channel and love it. I started doing patchwork earlier this year after having to give up my beloved crochet because of pain in my shoulder. I have plans to try and make clothes too, but dont have much space so am putting it off until i get a folding table. Your videos are just so inspiring. A perfect accompaniment for hand sewing. I LOVE that cotton shirt fabric with the half creatures on it but am hard of hearing and couldnt work out what company its from, snd cant see it in the list? Thanks so much for your lovely channel ❤xxxx
So lovely to have you join us here ❤️. The fabric is from 1st For Fabrics….I’ve popped the link here for you. It’s absolutely gorgeous 🥰 www.1stforfabrics.co.uk/product/ex-designer-100-cotton-poplin-shirting-unusual-creatures/?mot_tcid=8a22d61b-67a7-470c-933b-119687dfbe32
Ruan sorry this is completely off topic but your sun necklace you were wearing in one of the recent sewlsisters video was so beautiful, I was wondering if you would mind sharing where you got it? Many thanks 🙏
We all love your long videos, some of us think omg, grab a glass of wine 🙄 and savour the watch. Am I the only one 😂X
That is so bloomin lovely of you to say - thank you 🥰

Your hidden animals fabric is to die for! Love, love, looooove it! 🌹❤️
It's so pretty isn't it!

Your new fabric is so gorgeous! Love it.

Those destash fabrics are STUNNING!! You could not have let them go! And can we take a moment for the chambray with embroidered flowers 😍😍 just wow!!
I know! I couldn’t believe I managed to bag them 🤪
Looks like your neon orange buttons will work well the zebra stripe fabric…..😊. Thanks for sharing.
Ooh yes!

The sleeves on the Deer and Doe pattern give cape vibes. Makes the dress look special.

Ooh I just got and check Kristen’s instagram page as I don’t remember her making it. Thanks for letting me know 😊
I think I saw it on one of her vlogs at the time. Not sure when that was, last year sometime.
that sister mintaka fabric is amazing wow
Isn’t it!
What a wonderful haul, so jealous, wish I could get some de-stash bargains like yours 👍👍
I was very lucky!
Next time! Glad you had a nice time x
Ruan, I love long videos! You are *literally* a direct alternative to Netflix, etc. If a video is too short (under 10 minutes) I will often opt not to watch it.
Awwww thank you so much x
Thosey purple flower buttons would look amazing with the chambray fabric you gkt with flowers on
Great idea!!
Thanks so much for the info on the sewing project book. I wanted to buy one but didn't know what was inside. I won't be filling in the 'cost' section either! :D x
You are so welcome!
Ruan enjoyed the vlog very much you always lift my spirits. I had to ask where you got or where I might find that animal print with the
bright colored floral type print, I just love it.
Thanks so much.
It's from Sister Mintaka 😊
The Bargello Edit outlet shop on Etsy have got the labels on sale at the moment at a knock-down price if you're interested. Great video Ruan, always inspiring 😊
Thanks for the tip!
That emporia pattern would showcase the fabric from stitch festival, with the large print it would be really unbroken with that large skirt and showcaee the hidden animals beeeyoooteafully lol
Was so good to meet you in person, I meant to send you the picture...I look like a little leprechaun beside you 😂😂
The red/pink pigeon wishes buttons were very delicious,ni had my eye on those as well lol
Bless you on your sneeze BTW 🤣🤣
I also remember you talking about that shirt for your hubby 😂😂 make him work for it Ruan, get him on a job around the house you have wanted done 🤭🤭😈
🤣
Yes that would be a lovely pattern but don't think I have enough unfortunately!
As can’t sew yet - wot I do is buy something in charity shops and change buttons x
Great idea!
I would guess it could be a spot to note about which pressure foot you use for the project, perhaps
Maybe!
Loved the long vlog and some beautiful fabrics, I need to find these de-stash sites!!
I was very lucky!
I love all your Fabrics !! I went to the Stitch Festival on the Thursday, it was amazing . Only sorry not to see you !!
Next time!
What is this destash you speak of? Sounds like it’s a great place to off load and obtain new fabrics 😮
Yes it’s peoples destash pages on instagram that I found these beauties on x
Love the top you are wearing . Were the little tucks in the fabric already,if not would love to know how you did that ?
No it’s part of the make. Tilly has fabulous instructions for doing them and they’re actually pretty easy! They just look complicated 🤣
It’s absolutely gorgeous 🥰

Ruan sorry this is completely off topic but your sun necklace you were wearing in one of the recent sewlsisters video was so beautiful, I was wondering if you would mind sharing where you got it? Many thanks 🙏
Aww I was given it by a friend - just tried to find it online but no luck. If you search half moon necklace there's quite a few similar though 😊
@@theyorkshiresewgirl thank you I’ll do that ☺️
