    28:45 - During Legatus, green uses Legatus to recommend red use a diplomat. Red does play their diplomat and chooses the black player's prefect. Red executes the prefect. Then, green does. But the rules state that two partners cannot diplomat the same card on the same turn. So, green would have to diplomat the other opponent's card or do nothing.

    I love Concordia - it's my #3 game with only Great Western Trail and 18XX ranked above it.
    Every now and then someone in my gaming circles will try using Senator as their first card because there's just something too juicy to pass up in the market... I've done it a couple of times as well, and I don't think it's worked out for any of us. Most games the first player will Architect and everybody else will Diplomat it saving their Architects for the future.

      In non team based Concordia I also see the "1st player architects and others diplomat it" opening often. In the team version the second player doesn't actually have a diplomat, so if they want to architect on their first turn they have to lead with that card and that will give their partner (who has the diplomat) the opportunity to architect before even taking their first turn. Certainly shakes that first round up slightly between team based games and fully competitive ones.

    Wow, you've never seen anything other than Architect in your 10+ games Jon? As somebody else has mentioned, Senator is a fairly common opener - especially if it means picking up one or two Minerva cards. Then there's the Tribune opening, often played by player 4/5 so they can have a move of 3 for their first Architect so they can move beyond all the best spots that were taken by players 1-3. Playing Diplomat on turn 1 isn't unheard of either - though this is very situational. Ten games of Concordia barely scratches the surface of this elegant, but enormously deep game.

      Group think is certainly a thing, and I imagine that is part of it because I mostly play with the same people. In a non-team game I have often seen diplomats played as a first card in order to duplicate an architect but obviously that doesn't work when playing on teams. It's interesting that we've never really had senator or tribune openings, it's just not something I think any of us thought of. The tribune opener makes sense for a 5th player (we play a lot of 5p game of Concordia for some reason), and I'll keep that in mind for the future. Will also keep in mind the potential of the Senator, it's certainly something to consider depending on how the cards come out. Thanks for the feedback :)

      @@JonGetsGames Agreed: group think can be a challenge, which is why playing on Boiteajeaux is so valuable, you get to see all sorts of strategies that you don't see when you have a small pool of players (as I have)

    Can this game be played by only 2 players....which components of the gane would not be used with 2 players.

    • @JonGetsGames
      @JonGetsGames  2 года назад

      Concordia Venus can be played 2 players, but obviously you won't be playing on teams. You can play with the expansion components competitively, though I haven't tried that. I'm unsure which components are used, that should be detailed in the rulebook though.

    17:20 Shouldn't Achaia province's most lucrative good be wine?

    • @JonGetsGames
      @JonGetsGames  4 года назад +3

      Achaia only has two production cities in it, Patrae & Delphi. I believe you are referring to Lepreon and that city is part of the Sparta province.

      JonGetsGames Yep! I stand corrected. Move along...nothing to see here. ;-)

      I thought the same. That light purple (Sparta) over light blue is not the most clear to see, at least on screen. And lepreon being that close to the border didn't help either.

      Huh, sorry you found it quiet. I have it at the recommended level from the research I've done and no one else has mentioned this issue. Any more and the sound starts to get yellow and red as a warning in my editor which is something I try not to do because it could be surprisingly too loud for some.
