Finally a story that only goes better and better rather than worse and worse, absolutely refreshing. Nana Rose is a saint and I wish I have a Nana like her.
I was actually more curious on why they were acting like her helping him would have been different than anyone else doing so? Like ok she knew how to bake but he fell into a cake, what matters who helped him idk, get up and go home? On top of that, he ruined HER work … if there was one justified to not want to help its her and maybe the bride too 😅
Why should you apologise? Are your parents going to apologise for enabling the outrageous behaviour of your brother? They boast as bout your brother and his achievements yet he needs help from you? Cut your losses and go LC with them.
Jake can still have a paying job and make something substantial, one does not rejects the other. On the other hand, your mother needs to back off and start being honestly supportive
The best way to help the dude would be to get a picture of him with the wedding cake smashed all over him, and the caption above it of "don't become this guy and what he was again" he'd remember what happened, and hopefully never repeat it. That mother is something. It took two interventions to get her to see wtf was wrong with her way of thinking. I bet she's gonna backslide, but it's up to her to grow up.
OP needs to be low contact with her parents. They may have acknowledged the years of favortism but they did not apologize or do anything but talk. Actions speak louder than words. Cut your losses and the toxic people out of your life. Your parents are disgusting. Your mother is the worst not once do you mention anything she has done to repair your relationship, only what she does for Jake. Her favortism is still going strong. Cut contact ,block her, she is a vile toxic person. Neither of your parents care about you.
If mother pushed Jake so much then he is also a victim. Father seems like he just had more incommon with Jake, but didnt show much favoritism. Story somewhat shows OP's resentment for abandoning her and becoming a jerk. Like, best favoritism moments were parties for Jake's massive achievements. Also, mother is greedy af, thats why she was pushing Jake so much
Wow, what kind of family is this. These parents put the disappointment and drunken antics on the daughter who made the wedding cake, not on the young foolish man who is an embarrassment to everyone.i am very surprised that the young man opened up and apologized. The kid is smart but not experienced in anything. He needs to learn the old fashion way. Listen to the older employees who have gone thru the hard time. I hope this family has a chance for reunification. The young man is trying.
One idea no one has really touched on , Corporate life is not for everyone. Sometimes the smartest people get the most enjoyment and satisfaction from looking into people's eyes and smiling. Helping people that have no other way to advance with tech.
You should have helpt him. Even if he is not like you, he was never mean with you. You saied it yourself. You let him deal by himself with the situation as a retaliation for how you felt bc he followed a different path. But if you and him dont share the same life anymore, he never did wrong to you. You are just punishing him for being different and bc he was better at school. No one treated you badly. Your parents supported you in your passion and when you got you backery. If you have issues with that, you should discuss with him and your parents and maybe go to therapy instead of facking indifference and punishing him bc he is different from you.
Dude he got super drunk and made a fool of himself. I'm incredibly close to my brother and if he pulled something like that, especially with ruining something as expensive as a wedding cake, i wouldn't rush to his side. The couple had to deal with him ruining their wedding and they need support, and in fact helping him would be an insult to them. Families aren't there to bail you out, they support you but your actions will always have consequences.

I wonder if the Bride actually got an apology
Kudos to Nana Rose for holding that family together
Why the hell would they ask you for an apology for someone else's mistake!?
FR bro

Jake is the one who needs to apologize. He was an embarrassment to himself and everyone else. Op needs to be berating him not the other way around.
The real MVP, Nana Rose 🌹
I love good grandparents. Wish I appreciated mine more when I had them.

Have you ever repaired a relationship before? That was textbook for how you're supposed to do it.
Dang this folded out like a fairytale resolution
Sounds like mommy wants her sons wages
‘Help Jake.’ Help Jake how?!
This was the comment I was looking for. He'd already fell into the cake. Wtf was she pose to do??

The divide once a thriving place untouched by the bombs
Is it me or the mom never apologized to OP but apologized to the brother for creating this arrogance in him?
This doesn't sound like something that happened with how it was written.
