Awesome countdown, QG! Such colorful choices! Like you said, circuses and carnivals are all about having fun, and when they're in video games, you're bound to have one EXTRA fun experience. Thanks for remembering Witchyworld. I remember this fun place in Banjo-Tooie and think it's one of the most memorable in the game.
I don’t know if this one would count for this list, but the Shibuya jail from Persona 5 Strikers would be my pick for my favorite carnival level. Alice’s Wonderland is so vibrant with the visuals , and the music fits perfectly with the carnival aesthetic.

While not as well known as elemental like levels throughout the gaming community circus and carnival levels are very unique with their traits of entertainment with a lot of amusement part and circus like structures. Admission may be free for these types of levels but you better hope you can endure and survive what's coming to you.
Funny. I immediately thought of the song from Madagascar when I saw that the subtitle for the new Warioware game was Move It. Seriously wish they went with one that's similar to Smooth Moves.

Witchyworld actually has you treat it like an actual carnival even as it shamelessly keeps no secret about trying to murder you. That's why it's awesome. And it was better that it be in Tooie than in Kazooie as Tooie has the split-up mechanic-the main reason for it being the superior game because then there's a point to having two characters (because they didn't do a good job of making Banjo stand out in Kazooie)-and Witchyworld is where you first learn and use it, which is very appropriate as getting separated, deliberately or not, is a regular carnival thing.
I had a feeling that Witchyworld would be on this list and I was not disappointed. Also, I'm glad someone mentioned Carnival Land from Chameleon Twist 2 in the Patron Picks!

QuarterGuy, I am currently 21 years old, but I've been a fan of yours for about 8 years, back when I watched videos on my Samsung Galaxy tablet 3 and the 3DS RUclips app. I started watching you for your Megaman content back when I played the first 6 on an NES emulator as a kid, and have been subbed ever since. Your passion for the medium is palpable and the fact that you've been making great low-budget videos consistently for so long makes me wish you had much more subs. I still stuck around to watch your videos, even if I knew nothing about the games you liked. I still have yet to play Xenoblade, Wonderful 101, Ace Attorney, Blazblue, Bayonetta, or No More Heroes, but I wish I could carve out some time in my busy adult life to try a couple of them. Cool idea! I guess since Amusement Parks count too, I was of Epic Mickey, since the entire world was pretty much based around Disney Land (for the most part). But if I had to pick an area that felt like an Amusement park, it be the Ticket Booth and the 3 Boat Ride areas. I would also count the 4th chapter's location of Danganronpa 2 since takes place in an Amusement park. Lol the main cast rides a roller coaster for a hint from Monokuma and it's one of the funniest moments in the game for me due to char reactions lol. Heck even when the main mystery comes into play, which takes place in a funhouse, how the funhouse works is a key to solving the mystery, it's great! Of course it's balanced by all of the tragedy that happens in this chapter, and things that happen here lead to a turning point in the game. And I don't know if this would count since it was temporary (I hope the game creators create something permanent like it in the future), but this past summer, Genshin Impact had it's Summer event take place in an Amusement Park that's basically powered by people's Wishes (which is a cool concept). There a roller coaster that takes multiple paths (and is a shooting game too), there's a circus tent with a stage inside you use for fighting. There's minigames based around ones you can find in a Festival. It was just a lot fun things and the music fitted perfectly with the festive vibe. Like I said though, the land was temporary, so I don't know if it would count, but I hope that Hoyoverse creates something like that in the future that'll be permanent.
i remember my friend rented out a arcade where you pay at the counter and all games were free, so i spent almost an hour two hand completing all of carnevil with unlimited continues. worth every second

I'm glad Shadow's Circus Park got recognized, but I'm surprised no one mentioned Twinkle Park. It's filled with fun set pieces like the roller coaster, Twinkle Circuit, bowling, hopping across the tower tops... As Sonic anyway.

Another honorable mention is Wolverine's level in the 16 bit classic Spider-Man and X-Men: Arcade's Revenge. Part one has you heading to the top of a circus tent while battling robot clowns throwing acid filled pies, toy soldiers whose rifles shoot real bullets, toy planes dropping live bombs, exploding building blocks, machine gun wielding jack in the boxes and buzz saws popping out of the floor, all leading to a boss battle with a robot copy of Apocalypse. Then in Round 2, you're in a race against Juggernaut trying to strike at his helmet while he keeps running faster and faster. You have to cut down the anvils and 1 ton weights hanging above the area to slow Juggy down long enough to attack him. And oh yeah - the ball pits in your path are like quicksand.
Sure, Pinna Park has the pleasant theme park atmosphere, but once you 100% clear it there's no real reason to come back (other than perhaps exploiting an infinite coin trick).
A very unexpected Number 1, but one I am glad to see, regardless. Indeed, not all levels have to be about the danger and battle. Sometimes there are levels that simply let you relax and/or enjoy yourself, without any kind of instated pressure. Probably a countdown idea for the future, huh?
Great video as always QG. Also, I agree with what you said at the beginning. Given how animation is treated by big companies are treating it like Netflix and Discovery, we should focus our attention on animation, including indie animators
My favorite is the Meat circus Great music (Their Own Flesh and Blood being my favorite track in the series) Disturbing lore and imagery Great story elements And a neat layout, even if the gameplay could've been made easier
I only played the steam version, so I can't speak to the difficulty of the original Xbox release. But I honestly found the Meat Circus to not be much worse than the Asylum climb before it. Plus, as the final stage of the game, it's honestly the best place if you were to have the difficulty spike anywhere. Honestly, the figments from the levitation race are what's stalling me from replaying that game, more so than the meat circus.
You know, about the Gold Saucer being a number 1, the big multiverse story my friend and I are doing on Discord led us to create an alternate variant of it in the Xenosaga world called the Silver Saucer, and it's founded by an alternate version of the Manderville Family called the Manville Family (who are just as bonkers as the Mandervilles).
MediEvil II's The Freakshow and Spyro 2's Dragon Shores are circus/carnival levels that I remember fondly. And Funfair from Muppet RaceMania even if Stunt tracks were the weakest aspect of that game.
Another great set of Carnival themed levels for me is w5 Amusement Park from Super Monkey Ball 2/dx/mania. Lots of 2 catchy songs, introduces portals & amazing background detail.

Some of my other favorites include: - Dark Carnival from Blood (which is probably where the Left 4 Dead 2 Campaign got its name from). - Circus Tent Side Quest from Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn - Battle 7: Circus Tent from Shining Force - Rickety Race from Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest
A couple of levels came to mind for me. First is Celerion Park from Tinykin. You're the size of a quarter in this game, and the local bugs have turned a kid's room into an amusement park that you need to save. Also, while I didn't play either of the Klonoa games, Joilant from the second game was the first level I thought of. There's also the circus chapter in Yo-kai Watch 3, but that's more of an event than a level.
You also should've used the iconic line from Killer Clowns from Outer Space, "What are you gonna do with those pies boys?" Well, maybe that's not a classic film, but that was a funny moment when I saw that movie on TV.

there was one entry I was kinda hoping at least hit the Honorable mentions list but sadly it did not so let me take your hand to a trip of old that being the 2nd area of an old Gamecube game Scooby Doo Unmasked, which takes place an abandoned amusement park, and while it's not a Carnival it does have that feel of it, but if you really want circus/carnival level I direct you to the Big Top Level the last level in the world before you face the infamous Guitar Ghoul as the world's Boss to try and uncover the mystery of what's happened and it's rather fun even when I played not that long ago, yes I do have Gamecube and a game of it, so what have you? aside from that Tomorrow is my Big Bday! hope you all have a great day!

I guess I didn't consider number 1 a carnival. After Witchyworld and the honorable mentions I was like "Okay, who the hell can be number 1 now?!" and then I was like "D'oh!"
I think Golden Saucer would be best described as an "amusement park", but in terms of sheer technical quality and amount of (mostly side) content it's worth stretching the definition to put it in the #1 spot. Let's hope the remake team isn't getting TOO distracted with recreating that shiny masterpiece in order to finish the rest of the game! ;)
Dragon Shores from Spyro 2. Sure, it's a minigame collection and there's not much to do otherwise but those minigames are fun and once you beat them all you unlock a cutscene theatre, also if you have every orb and gem in the game you get permanent super flame....right at the end of the game that you can only carry over to a new game with a glitch.
I don't even remember the last time I went to a circus. Maybe when I was a little kid or something? Tell me, does anyone remember the last time they went to the circus?
2012. Cole Bros circus. They folded in part due to animal cruelty concerns. I think they could have been alright as an all-human circus but even with that, they'd still be hit like everyone else with COVID shutdowns.

there was one entry I was kinda hoping at least hit the Honorable mentions list but sadly it did not so let me take your hand to a trip of old that being the 2nd area of an old Gamecube game Scooby Doo Unmasked, which takes place an abandoned amusement park, and while it's not a Carnival it does have that feel of it, but if you really want circus/carnival level I direct you to the Big Top Level the last level in the world before you face the infamous Guitar Ghoul as the world's Boss to try and uncover the mystery of what's happened and it's rather fun even when I played not that long ago, yes I do have Gamecube and a game of it, so what have you? aside from that Tomorrow is my Big Bday! hope you all have a great day!

I guess I didn't consider number 1 a carnival. After Witchyworld and the honorable mentions I was like "Okay, who the hell can be number 1 now?!" and then I was like "D'oh!"
I think Golden Saucer would be best described as an "amusement park", but in terms of sheer technical quality and amount of (mostly side) content it's worth stretching the definition to put it in the #1 spot.
Let's hope the remake team isn't getting TOO distracted with recreating that shiny masterpiece in order to finish the rest of the game! ;)

Dragon Shores from Spyro 2. Sure, it's a minigame collection and there's not much to do otherwise but those minigames are fun and once you beat them all you unlock a cutscene theatre, also if you have every orb and gem in the game you get permanent super flame....right at the end of the game that you can only carry over to a new game with a glitch.
These levels were fun.

2012. Cole Bros circus. They folded in part due to animal cruelty concerns. I think they could have been alright as an all-human circus but even with that, they'd still be hit like everyone else with COVID shutdowns.

@The Quarter Guy Is it wrong to say that Mega Man and Bass is kind of overhated, mainly the SNES version? There is a video that talks about the different difficulty between Mega Man and Bass and Mega Man X6, give it watch when you have the chance.
Also thanks to you and another channel Reploid REVO, I have gotten attached to the classic Mega Man and Mega Men X series and the Zero series to an extent.
