    Man. I remember playing this back in the day. I'd spend hours in my fully maxed out custom park, just looking around, watching guests have fun, cleaning up vomit, and imagining myself becoming a theme park designer and creating the very own park I spent months building. I had all the different areas named... can't recall them now but the Western Land was called "Rootin' Tootin' Town"

    How does the most optimized game in history, which could run on even the lowest end computers of the era have frame rate issues on a modern ish console?
    Isn’t this a full port, not an emulation?

      Yeah Frame Rate issues are not acceptable for this game.

    • @regisk
      @regisk 2 месяца назад +65

      They converted its code from the original assembly to C++. Also, from what Alex said about the switch's fan not even getting faster, it's certainly an indicator of a lazy port.

    • @cluesagi
      @cluesagi 2 месяца назад +35

      @@regisk They were going to have to rewrite the game anyway as assembly code is unique to each architecture, so with the original being in x86 assembly, even keeping it in assembly would mean rewriting it in arm assembly. But I agree it's really stupid that any game this old should have performance issues on Switch

    • @ggary04
      @ggary04 2 месяца назад +46

      Because it wasn't originally optimized for a Switch.
      I'm sick of hearing "Lazy Port" from no nothing internet sleuths who ain't got the slightest clue what they're are blathering on about.
      Do you expect a company to work on this project for 5 years to get it to run perfectly only to get a small turnaround on a 25 year old niche game?
      Are you willing to take the good with the bad when something else breaks because the game was built from the ground up?
      I've been playing it for a little over 2 hours now and it runs perfectly fine aside from zooming out.

There are so many point n' click, strategy and pong like games that would greatly benefit in gameplay and the devs would most certainly make a pretty penny. The Switch can support a mouse via USB, dunno why no one out there wants to do this, a wireless USB mouse is cheap, too. Dear Alex, not sure if you are aware but Tactics Ogre: Reborn, Doom 1 and 2, FUZE4, Hypnospace Outlaw, Factorio, Game Builder Garage and Quake are some of the games that have mouse support, so it is most definitely possible. The problem is that some of the developers are a lazy bunch or they probably think that adding a feature wouldn't bring in more sales, or perhaps they think it is not needed because console gamers play console versions because they don't like using a mouse (which is nonsense). There are so many point n' click, strategy and pong like games on the console that would greatly benefit with mouse gameplay. I am astonished that there is no love for the MOUSE :( ...there is one random thread where a guy asked a question about mouse support on the Switch (in general, was not RCT related) and someone responded with something like "there is no interest...if you want to play those type of games, play on a computer"...that is such a lame response, why not give us the option, there is clearly love for those type of games on the Switch...imagine Mario Maker 2 with mouse support, World of Warcraft 2 or Command & Conquer HD would be amazing...ah one can dream...Switch 2 hopefully... Have you even played it? The controls work really good. The only downside is like Alex said. It would have been nice to turn up the speed of the cursor.
      Really it feels like it could go up by just 1 increment and I'd be happy with it.
      Aside from that it's not a huge issue because the D-Pad and x/y buttons snap around to all of the important icons so you're never really dragging the cursor around all too much.

    I started on my first pc , my original xbox, my first laptop and a bring new really solid specification laptop I bought last month and had rollercoaster tycoon 1 and 2 on them all . God knows how many times I've finished some of these but alas one or two scenarios I haven't done still! But ...as much as I totally adore this amazing dualology * ( sorry there's only 2 in my world) the price point must be reasonable saying you can pick either up on steam for literally £2.39 last time I checked. And the fps drops on zoom is just not acceptable, this game was on xbox ( original) and ran decent, I get it's maybe a coding difference but come on I'm sure with some effort and magic this could be a definitive version surely!!!! Such and amazing collection of games and yet not quite the versions it should be! Touch screen presence should be a yes I feel maybe a few tweaks will get it better who knows. For now my new laptop looks unchallenged and that cost me £750 and will run me solid for years to boot .

    Charging $25 is ridiculous for this. The mobile version is only $5.99, and runs perfectly. I'd definitely recommend that version over this one, especially since I think it feels better on mobile where the entirety of the screen is within touching distance during gameplay. And I would never use the joycon controls for this game, it is just not designed for that type of input and ends up feeling very clunky.

    No touch support? I’ll try it out on the steam deck first since I already have these games on steam. At least the steam deck allows me to remap and force any controls I want

    Man, 13yo me back in March of 1999 would've been blown away by the thought of playing this game on a Nintendo handheld. Really glad to hear it's a solid port. I'm very happy they've kept it so true to the original and kept the curser controls. Look forward to picking this up. However, I was a little taken aback by the price compared to the mobile version. So probably wait for a sale. Thanks for the review. 👍🫡

    No custom maps, frame rate issues and no touch controls. I've started the video having sure I would buy it right away, but I don't think so anymore...

    Also, how in the world did they manage to make a game written in the 90s in assembly language lag so much that the game slows down to 1 FPS? That takes more effort than Chris Sawyer put into the first two games combined!

    crazy that it's more expensive than the mobile versions with less content and less polish. Howe did roller coaster tycoon 3 run much better on the same hardware????

    Rollercoaster Tycoon is workable on PC and Windows then a Nintendo Switch or PlayStation tbh.

    Weird how a game practically programmed down to the 1s and 0s can barely run on a modern video console 💀

    The frame rate issues are just due to the age of the Switch. Nearly every Switch game that has come out in the past few years has some kind of slowdown.

    I think this might actually be a hard sell to anyone who hasn't got the nostalgia for the series. The visuals I found hard to watch even in this review.
    It feels like a case of "let's put it on switch because we can" rather than something people really wanted?
    There being yet another case of " oh and there's performance issues" is just getting really old now. Poor old switch.
    I love mine very much but not every game should be on it
