There’s just something about cold starting a school bus, but I can’t put my finger on it, and I’m saying this has a 33-year-old male that used to ride to the school bus to and from middle school decades ago lol Edit: with that said great video and thank you RUclips for recommending me this even though I’m no longer in school😂
1 Thing you don't do if its 26 degrees out don't turn on the wipers in 26 degrees they can freeze and put stress on on the motor and could break and next time I suggest to put a battery charger on all of them to help them start
This video was a throwback for me, I started my mechanic career as a school bus mechanic in Wisconsin, doing that exact job from 1999-2001. We had 45-50 buses, the cloud of white exhaust would drift over to the neighbors houses, I always assumed they hated us in the winter. To this day, the smell of diesel exhaust in the cold always triggers some sort of PTSD...Just kidding, I loved that job, except for patching holes in the seats. Subscribed!
Arch oil makes an additive that helps the HUI injectors fire easier in the cold. It was made fore the 6.0 7.3 psd which have the same fuel injectors as your cranky kitty. 5W40 synthetic oil wood also help build oil pressure in the cold.
7:46 now i understand why my high school always had the block heaters plugged in. 8:40 also looks like the batteries are low. Less than 12v closer to 10v.
Atleast you don't crank the heater fan on full... Idk why some people do that, unless they have a extra diesel heater going... Or else all you do, is giving the engine longer to run warm... Cabin fan on full wont let youre diesels get warm at all..
Bus doesn’t have glow plugs And starting fluid will not help start it It has trouble building hydraulic pressure in the cold to fire the injectors No hydraulic pressure, no fuel
Thats pretty cool! I've had quite a few buses myself, unfortunately some I had to get rid of.... But yeah the Vision is by far the best one I've had yet, it's in AMAZING shape and still runs great (when it's warmed up)
Those CATs hate the cold, but they'll never die.
Snow+CAT= Get the popcorn it's going to be a long one
From 275 to owning 1 of each of the main 3 you really stepped it up dude keep it up
Never met a DT 466 that wanted to start in cold without ether
Great video the Maxx Force DT strong no problem starting in the cold Cool all the other buses 👍

I've never ever seen an ISB (particularly in a C2) give me any trouble even in the cold. Cats on the other hand... are moody. Lmao.

Up in the cold morning putting the time in on getting the buses running! Let's go!
Hey man! I really like your videos. I’m also in New York.

The kitty cat was not happy
If your running 15w40 in the cat a good change to cold starts might be going to 5w40 huei engines use the oil to fire the injectors
Nice video
You might need new glo plugs on the blue bird!
2:13 What is that red switch under the mirror switch for?
Engine fan override
@@ThatOneLT1 I was gonna say I thought you had Onspot automatic tire chains installed on it. Had me there for a second
Drive safe
Oowowwowowo

WHy is 420 so small you could've got a bigger CE
Starter fluid for the second bus ...glow plugs need to be charged
Bus doesn’t have glow plugs
And starting fluid will not help start it
It has trouble building hydraulic pressure in the cold to fire the injectors
No hydraulic pressure, no fuel
10:37 bluebird bus starts
It probably doesn't want to wake up
Hold your foot half way down on gas pedal while cranking
Electronic pedal
Won’t do anything
do a 5.9 cummins engine swap on 46, it would sound amazing
That is what I'm thinking
is the BlueBird 46 have been Fixed?
What does that mean?
@@baseballlion1615 it means the BlueBird has starting problems
@@alexolive1486it has starting problems because it’s a CAT. they don’t like to start in the cold.
@alexolive1486 oh ok. Thanks for letting me know.
It’s just how caterpillars are
This bus requires to be plugged in to start properly
Obviously I can’t do that
That Blue bird bus is probably low on oil pressure and is having trouble firing the injectors
It's just cold
But yes the HEUI pump takes quite a bit to fire the injectors
Cats hate the cold. I’ve learned to put a propane heater under the engine block for about an hour. What do you use these buses for?
I use them for parts storage and I collect them
The Blue Bird in particular is a rare bus you won’t find many of
@@ThatOneLT1 I have 3 buses myself. I use 2 of them for wedding events. But I’m a collector myself. Those bluebird visions are good buses
Thats pretty cool!

@ I’ve had several myself. My current ones are some of my favorites. I own all bluebirds now.
I still plan to get more buses
I got my eye on 3 other Blue Birds and I may be buying back one of the buses I sold last year
Why do you have locks on your buses?
People steal anything these days
I lock my pet rat in there sometimes. His name is Jeff.
Because buses are private property, much like your car. You wouldn't want someone just randomly getting in your car, would you?
I use my buses for parts storage
Don’t need nobody messing with my stuff
Wow 3rd the same
46 doesn't like winter so it refuse to start
I don't think the glow plugs were working. At that temp, they all should have started like the first bus with good glow plugs.
None of the 3 buses have glow plugs
They each have just small intake heaters
They’re very inefficient
My birthday
happy birthday
Under the number 46 is the air intake so you don't have to look for it again
