Huey Lewis is like the the ultimate dad rocker, that little huskyness he has is just wonderful and he's just simply cool. Their music makes you feel good.
I saw Huey Lewis in Beaumont TX when the Sports album first came out. A small dive bar. Me and a couple of friends were at a table less than 20 feet from him. He played the entire Sports album. Great Times 😁
The entire "Sports" album is a gem from Huey Lewis & The News, along with "Back in Time" and "Power of Love" from "Back to the Future". Every one of their songs makes you want to get up and move.
To say Huey Lewis & the News were huge in the 80's is an understatement. At a time when new wave, alternative, punk, rap, etc. music was becoming more prevalent, this song keeps with the roots of rock & roll that so many of us appreciates. For some reason that hook of how he says "Boston and Baton Rouge" grabs me. LOL So great to see you really digging and getting into it.
Huey was a master of creating vocal tension. Those slide ups and hanging just a 16th tone flat on accentuating notes, really drags the listener right in. The tightness of the band almost goes unnoticed from the vocal acrobatics, and Huey is a master harmonicaist (?) After graduation 2 years early from high school, Huey's father made him tour Europe with a knap sack, a harmonica and a thumb to hitchhike from city to city. He wandered Europe for a year at age 17 making money by street busking with his harmonica.
He’s so unhappy that his hearing loss is affecting his ability to sing in tune. Huey-we LOVE you and would rather listen to you out of tune than not hear you at all!
I worked as kitchen supervisor at a summer camp for teens when I was in graduate school. The staff had to get up at 4am to get breakfast ready for 300+ kids. The first person who arrived in the kitchen would put this song in tape player and crank up the sound. It really got the kitchen staff ready for the day. LOL people were dancing around like maniacs listening to Huey while they prepared breakfast. What great memories music brings back to us.
Huey Lewis rocks Beth - they rocked in the 80's and their music still rocks today - it's innocent & fun music that anyone can enjoy - without any agenda except fun! The Heart Of Rock N Roll!!
@@paule6752 yeah, he was the teacher at the audition that Marty does (in his time) that tells him thst he is playing "too darn loud". Which if you know that it was Huey Lewis it makes the scene much funnier. 🤣

This is going to sound crazy, but I’ve loved HL&TN since high school. (‘87) And just watching you listen to him for the first time, and watching the instant joy you showed, made me tear up a little. Your happiness is still what I feel when I listen to Huey. (Total Time Machine) So it just confirmed that this band’s sound is timeless and solid. It’s sad he isn’t able to sing anymore. But there is so much out there to enjoy. Thanks for this small moment. It was great watching your video!!
Your happy, beaming face and little chair dance made me smile! There was always a surge of people pushing to the dance floor when this one came on! You would have had fun. 😉

I saw them in concert once . I liked them ok before the concert. It was absolutely a great entertaining show. Fun , energetic engaging to and with the crowd. A real professional that was playing for the audience.
My wife and I were waiting outside the gates of Wolf Trap (in Northern Va) for a Huey Lewis show , sometime around 2005. We could hear the sound check and a fairly extensive rehearsal. Considering the great majority of the crowd were there to relive their memories from 20 years prior, and likely would have been happy with anything that even approximated their 80s sound, the professionalism we could hear even before the gate opened was impressive . The band sounded like they were having fun. The actual show was electric. The crowd was treated to a high-energy performance that was responsive to the audience. The youngins dragged along by their parents walked out as fans!
I love Huey so much! This "Sports" album and his entire discography is more than worth your time. I was fortunate to see him live multiple times and he and the band put on a tremendous show every time. Nothing but fun and quality musicianship.
I had a tiny little blonde girlfriend back then and she gave me her Sports album from them. So loved Huey back in the day. The Power of Love from the movie Back To the Future really stands out.
I love when you get a song that's upbeat and fun. Your personality is just so vivacious and happy you can't help but get drawn into the whole experience. Can't help but see you through a dad's eyes (I have a wonderful daughter) and you must be such a joy to your folks. And I'm so glad we get to hear you roar here. Always a good day when I see the alarm !
One of the most underrated groups of all time. Just good old fashioned rock and roll. Huey Lewis and Bob Seager, are probably the hardest working musicians in the business. It’s just a shame that illness forced him out of a fantastic career
That last part of the video with the heartbeat sound and the glow in his chest is meant to signify that he has the 'Heart of Rock n Roll'. It's kind of a neat little way to end it on. I grew up as a teenager in America in the 80's and this was on the radio A LOT! Great song and a great band!
Beth a true aalent. HL has a great voice. I still have Huey Lewis and the News vinyls from the early 80s. See also duets with Gwyneth Paltro. Honestly , you said you'd never heard of him, where have you been? Under a rock? Cheers love.
Hi! Off course you have listened to Huey Lewis! The Power of Love, theme from Back to the Future is an iconic song. There are many other famous songs from him I'm sure you know them. But a moment I love from his career is the movie Duets, when his caracter is a karaoke contestant. Then he arrives in a bar, as he was an ordinary person, and he bets with another man that he would win that round. Then he starts to sing, and woooow, he's fabulous! This same movie he is Gwyneth Paltrow's father, and they sing together the song Cruise, from Smokey Robinson. So, so beautiful. By the way, this movie "Duets" is a "every music lover must see". Another remarkable scene from it is the performance of Try a Little Tenderness.
I love every type of music all the way to extreme death metal yet Huey is still my favorite voice of all time, the man is a legend and his voice is just fun and powerful, he can sing anything and it just moves
I was 11 years old when this song came out in 1983. It is so much fun to have playing how can you not love it. Good times. (you seemed to enjoy it as much as I do) Great reaction. Thank you 😄
Huey lewis and the news was the king in the eighties two huge albums and The power of love from the back to the future soundtrack........still bearrin....

Cleveland is actually what inspired Huey to write the song. In several interviews he tells the story about doing a great show in Cleveland, after which Huey remarked to the band that "the heart of R&R is in Cleveland." Then he said, "that's a good idea for a song." The band thought "The Heart of Rock & Roll is in Cleveland" didn't sound like a great lyric so he changed it to "still beatin'" and the rest is history. It’s something that he was diagnosed with decades ago that has gotten worse. I’m glad he has made so many great recordings for us to enjoy though. You gotta see him in the movie Duets. He’s Gwyneth Paltrows dad and a skeezy karaoke shark in one of five different stories where everyone is trying to end up at the big karaoke finals. You get to hear interesting singing and typical stories of how singing has served or damaged them over the years.
One of the most distinctive (and beloved) voices of the 80's.
