- First, the Monza is a really great car. This commercial has Alexander Scourby doing the voice over. He is one of the best voices ever. As a kid, I grew up listening him on National Geographic Documentaries. We'd even watch them in school. If you get a chance watch this guy acting. He was fantastic. He is known for his readings of the Bible.

My brother had a 78 Monza, V8 & automatic. I had a 80 Monza, V6 & automatic. Mine was a gas guzzling, gutless turd. 2 more examples of why I hate GM vehicles.... well Chevy's at least.
I've owned approximately 55 cars & my 1980 Monza was easily 1 of the 5 worst. But TYVM for another video Osborn !!!
Alexander Scourby and Paul Frees were the penultimate narrators of their generation.
Scourby was a great actor too....sometimes, you get to see him in older TV shows and he's always brilliant.
Pass the malaise, please...
Thanks for posting this gem, Osborn!
I wonder how and where they decontented these to drop the price, or was their reputation catching up?
Almost got one of these coupes with a shoehorned-in 350 V8, which was available only in California. Had the vinyl roof/opera window treatment. Had no idea it was essentially a dressed-up Vega. I ended up getting a Camaro instead.
My dad a yellow one just like in the commercial and it wasn't a bad car. One of my aunts also had one in the early 80s but a hatchback.
other than Rusting, and most cars rusted then, it was a good car, the vega bugs worked out of them. One of My Mom's friends who worked part time at a GM plant bought one using her employee discount. It was a neat little car
@@OsbornTramain Cool 😎
That won't pay the sales tax on anything today.
Those cars rusted through in about 3 years!
Ah, that’s why there are like zero left!
I was going to say the same thing, I can't remember when was the last time I saw a Coupe version? I've seen a couple Sunbird versions, maybe 2 in 20 years......but no Monza versions
@@OsbornTramain did this car compete with the mustang 2?
I had one of those, fun to drive, until it rusted away.
If I remember correctly, the Monza was GM’s approach to salvaging the poor reputation made by the cute but poorly executed Chevy Vega. The Vegas rusted fast , but the bigger problem was super high oil consumption when the engines aluminum block cylinder walls got worn and damaged. I think in addition to a different name, the Monza got a different engine.
yes, they are related to the Vega and is a better car. By 78 thru the End 1980?, there was a Monza Wagon too which was simply a Vega but with a Monza front clip attached.
Not the best looking Monza, that’s for sure. But having Scourby doing the voiceover makes it OK.
Agreed I thought the hatch was best looking.
