Don Dressel I paid $650 for my second car a 66 sport coupe. After 4 years I still haven’t gotten it in driving condition. Makes you realize how different things are today
The '65 Impala was a very handsome car. My dad bought a '65 BelAir. It was pretty basic but still a good looking and reliable car. And loads of interior and trunk room. Massive by today's standard.
I still own a car I bought for 750. In 1989 big block SS Impala .Very fortunate for the car and myself , over it's past 55 years this driver car escaped the crusher a few times .
It was a simpler time in the development of television entertainment, and television news. Video cameras were not affordable by middle class earners, or poor people. Neither were video tape recorders. There was no internet. You were not permitted by the telephone to attach your own telephone dialer and transceiver to the telephone company's telephone wire. Even the wires inside your house or apartment were laid there by the phone company and belonged to the phone company. However the atomic bomb existed, the hydrogen bomb too. These were neither technologically simple, nor devoid of impact on culture and politics. We had jet engine air planes providing passenger service from all over the planet. TV entertainment and news may have provided the illusion that the culture and politics of the US were simple, but they were not.
My father was a salesmanager at a Chevy dealership during this era he even had a Corvette as a demonstrator, I was like a kid in a candy store whenever going down to the dealership and the new car shows in September were like hollywood premiers really miss that era
Can you imagine what a five and a half minute commercial would cost in today's market? Not to mention getting the stars of all a network's "top shows" at the time to be in the commercial.
Not sure that I can say much about the cost, but productions like this were likely not made to air on TV. those who are old enough may remember when films like this ran in theaters between the shows. Some may remember that back then they didn't clear out the house between showings of the film. "One-price" admission & you could watch as long as you wanted. You could stay & see it again. Or Saturday afternoons had their "double-feature" matinee & between showings there were various short films including cartoons, newsreels & advertising.

The entire Chevrolet line for 1965 was beautiful. Well planned, well styled, solid and dependable and not expensive to maintain. I remember these cars when they were new and I was a kid. They were introduced at our local Chevy dealer in September 1964. I really liked the 1965 Corvair Corsa and the 1965 Impala 2 dr hardtop. Then they introduced the 1965 Caprice and it was very elegant and a great top of the line model which I liked too.

On the film lot of this studio, they were filming episodes of the Brady Bunch at the same time. Hogans Heroes was on the far SW corner while My Three Sons and Leave It to Beaver were near by. Classic all. Many do not know that Lauren was bald and worn a hair piece. Dan Blocker tells a funny scene at a Dock where Lauren gets knocked into the water. He stayed under water as only his hand came up to grab the floating hair. He would not go anywhere without it. Ahh the 60s Mike. Sure was a happening time, wasn't it? I was only 9, but it still influence my way of life. There was alot of bad those years, but I like to remember the good. Cars, and music mostly, but lots more too. :)
Yep, lived it my self as a kid. Seems like everyone living at the time just took it as another regular day each day without thinking about how precious those times were. Took it for granted. Life was definitely much simpler back then. We all didn't really know that in the next 57 years would be hell!
I remember the Bonanza Special shows every year with no commercials until the end when they introduced the new Chevy lineup for the year. Always exciting!
My Dad bought a (new) 1965 Chevy II station wagon. Six cylinder with the 2-speed Powerglide (?) transmission. I bought it from him in 1972 for my first car.
1965 was a great year for car buyers as I liked every one of those cars and most are some of the most popular cars for collectors today. This was back when they created cars that people would want.
@er1c175 I am too a 60's baby and had a crush on Elizabeth Montgomery! She was beautiful. Back when TV and American cars were great. In an interview in 92 Lizzy, she like to be called that said Bewitched was the best time of her life. She never missed a day of work in the 8 year run. She passed away too young at 62. I have all the season's on DVD. RIP to all the old great actors that have passed on.
Not really. ANY modern car is superior in every way that matters to anything from 1965. You can argue about the styling, which was of it's time, as the current one is of it's time, but by any objective measure, modern cars are superior to old iron. And I collect old cars.
@@jamesw1659 If you're gonna go by safety and electronics the modern one is obviously gonna win. But the thrill of driving something like that with a 4 on the floor, convertible, and the hum of a 327 easily beats the 2017.

1964, '65 and '66 Impalas are iconic -- great cars! You'd have to know what it's like to drive one in order to appreciate it. I drool whenever I see one on the road whether it's fully restored or not.
@@caddyjoint96 oh trust me those days once you got 65000 miles you had better start looking to trade. Only ac you got was under dash mounted. Tires lasted only around 20000 miles. Carburetor got all gunked up from dirty gas.
This was fantastic! It's funny, as I was watching I kept thinking how well Lorne Green enunciated when he spoke. Then I realised he kept saying, "Chevulet". :)
I had a '65 Chevelle 2 door hardtop with a 283 and a 2 speed powerglide automatic transmission. I bought it in December of '80. It was my high school car. Lots of great memories of driving to school my senior year. It was a great car.
That 4-door Corvair hardtop is really sweet, wonderful roofline and proportions! It's too bad people were scared off by the pre-64 Corvairs that had a tendency to flip over in sharp turns. That was corrected before the one major design change occurred for '65, but by then Nader had pointed out the car flaws and it killed the Corvair in '69. But the '65-'69 Corvairs are gorgeous!
65 Impala is the ultimate classic.- take care of that beauty - I love Bullitt - I graduated form USF and can name every street and corner on that classic movie.
Yeah, the very sight of Agnes Moorhead duct-taped to the trunk of a Nova rolling down Main Street in Virginia City at 30 mph probably brought a few dozen folks to the showroom. That ad business was really persuasive back then.
The old days they changed the style of them every year...I was a kid and looked forward to what they would look like from year to year...They were all beautiful and stream lined
Those of you making deriding, snide comments need to remember the '65 Impala sold over a million units for the model year, a record never bettered. Yeah, the ads may have been cheesy and contrived, but they helped make Chevrolet cars sell pretty well. My dad bought the Impala wagon for '65. It was a good car, after we got a mechanic to tune it right, but dad said it was not the best handling car. He said it loved to wander.
That was the year that it first became a full size car. Still had the small block V8 327 as before but not as sporty. We had the '63 and the '65 growing up.
I wasn't old enough to drive in 1965 but I had a 1966 Chevy Caprice 2-door with a 327 CI V8 and a 4-bbl Rochester carbuerator in 1977, it was one fast car.
What I find interesting is that the stars were on different networks. Back then the networks were very interested in only promoting their own stars and programs. Bewitched was on ABC....Bonanza on NBC. Back then, ABC was always number 3, except they had a real hit with Bewitched. Chevrolet was happy to sponsor that show !
All the different network stars show up on this Chevrolet promo film because all the shows were at one time sponsored by Chevrolet. Shows back in the 60's had full sponsorship, which (usually) meant they paid all the commercials on the premiere episodes, but not the re-runs. In turn, they got rights (like above) to "borrow" the stars and their characters for these ad agency films. Ad agency McCann Erickson was one of the best in doing these (and the necessary contract terms) in this regard (as depicted in Mad Men). FYI: Chevy went back to McCann back in 2012, and is currently still with them.
Great video!! All my favorite shows too! I just love the 65 Corvette! That is a real great looking car! I'd love to test drive that car out on the open highway!!
You'll be pleased to know that a whole lotta young blokes here in New Zealand are opting for the older cars to restore....Chevy .Impalas, Old Fords, Holdens,,really nice to see...

As a Corvette owner, I will always look back with awe on the 1963 to 1967 Stingray - one of the most beautiful cars ever made. Of course, the full-size (Biscayne, BelAir, Impala and Caprice) Chevrolets were also quite elegant from any angle. Back in the day, cars actually changed design almost every year and did not all look the same the way so many do today. Oh, to have 1960s styling with 21st century technology!

There was alot of bad those years, but I like to remember the good. Cars, and music mostly, but lots more too. :)
I was 5 years old then, wish Elizabeth could transport me back to that time!!!
I never realized it as a kid as it was happening but the 1960s would be the best years of my life.
Yep, lived it my self as a kid. Seems like everyone living at the time just took it as another regular day each day without thinking about how precious those times were. Took it for granted. Life was definitely much simpler back then. We all didn't really know that in the next 57 years would be hell!
I drove the Chevy 2 to high school for 2 years. We even put an 8 track player in the glove box. Great times.
@Terry Clark All the thieves at my school would go for the glove box first. We has one kid who would steal them by order. It was ridiculous.
America was so much better in 1965 than it is today, so much better. And the cars had so much more style.
Loved these old car commercials. They were truly special
The Man From U.N.C.L.E. in my 65 Corvair. Astounding!
Very cool, Dan Blocker owned one of the earliest Z/16 Chevelle's, a yellow one I believe, that still survives to this day.
As usual... Elizabeth Montgomery twitched a big block into the Chevelle... but forgot the posi...
I remember the Bonanza Special shows every year with no commercials until the end when they introduced the new Chevy lineup for the year. Always exciting!
My dad had a 65 Corvair...really nice car. Still in the family, restored. My nephew has it.
Those were the days my friend.....
i thought they would never end.
Growing up in the 1960s was the best. Too young to get shipped off to Vietnam back then and too old for them to care now. LOL.
I was born in late 50s watch television shows all my life I've never seen this commercial till now it was awsome love it
My Dad bought a (new) 1965 Chevy II station wagon. Six cylinder with the 2-speed Powerglide (?) transmission. I bought it from him in 1972 for my first car.
I was in 5th. grade. what a wonderful time. The corvette sting ray ! what a beautiful car.
My how the times have changed!! Crazy long commercial!
Entertaining though and nobody yelling at you to buy it.
1965 was a great year for car buyers as I liked every one of those cars and most are some of the most popular cars for collectors today. This was back when they created cars that people would want.
I was 14 years old then, man where did the time go?
The townsfolk didn’t seem to freaked out about seeing “horseless carriages”.
Nor were they freaked out by two woman popping in out of thin air.
The 4-door pillarless 'hardtop' Corvair was a goodlooking car. Ashame there are no more 4-door hardtops made today. The Vette is gorgeous!
the 1965 Malibu is better than the 2017
Easily
Chevy's last decent decade was the 70's
@@atheistconservative6211 In terms engines and models 2004 was the last good year from the Duramax, but I think their models went down in the late 80s by getting rid of the Squarebody style.
***IN MY OPINION***
My first car was a 1965 Biscayne. It was a nice car.
The Biscayne was the 'strippo' full-size Chevy model. They made great cop cars and could be ordered with a big-block V8.
My first was a 65 sedan, plate # LAD334.
Late 60s Chevys always reminds me of Bewitched, Larry Tate always had either a Corvette or Caprice.
MerleOberon Or I dream of jeenis,, there was'nt a boy in America who didnt want to be in the bottle while Barbra Edan is saying: YES MASTER: BUT everybody on that show always drove a new Pontiac, I'v seen some bad ass fiirebird's on that shpw...
MerleOberon. Larry Tate. was. the boss..lol
yes, larry had the sports cars--Darren drove the impalals--great cars all--their car choice kind of reflected their personalities.
windstorm1000
I seen Darren drive a real nice Camaro SS one time can't remember which episode
I think Darren had a Chevelle convertible when the show first started in September 1964.
WOW what a GREAT COMMERCIAL! I love Agnes Moorehead she was always my fave on Bewitched! and I LOVE that red Stingray car BEAUTIFUL!
1964, '65 and '66 Impalas are iconic -- great cars! You'd have to know what it's like to drive one in order to appreciate it. I drool whenever I see one on the road whether it's fully restored or not.
La Bamba cars!
No.EVERY year was different model and you actually test drove cause they drove differently
@@donovanbryan5000 I'll have to defer to you because I've actually only driven a '66 model. I like the look of all three models, though.
@@caddyjoint96 oh trust me those days once you got 65000 miles you had better start looking to trade.
Only ac you got was under dash mounted.
Tires lasted only around 20000 miles. Carburetor got all gunked up from dirty gas.
@@donovanbryan5000 My 1965 Impala SS has factory A/C. Rare, but available.
Five minutes with Sam in the back seat would be enough to convince me to buy one.❤
I was born in 1965. These cars are 55 years old now. I would love a showroom 65 today!
Back when GM was at their top of the game!
Exactly mate
I really loved Agnes Moorehead in this, she totally steals the video! Thanks for posting!
Absolutely! She was my fave on Bewitched.
The chemistry between her and Dan Blocker is terrific.
Freaking awesome. wherever you found this, that's great work.
Elizabeth Montgomery - still very wonderful!
This was fantastic!
It's funny, as I was watching I kept thinking how well Lorne Green enunciated when he spoke. Then I realised he kept saying, "Chevulet". :)
Really? I thought he pronounced it correctly, assmella.
@@senorkaboom
He pronounced it perfectly every time..
This was an excellent commercial. It makes me really want to buy a Chevy from back then.
Yowser! The more DATED these vintage commercials on RUclips are, the better.
I had a '65 Chevelle 2 door hardtop with a 283 and a 2 speed powerglide automatic transmission. I bought it in December of '80. It was my high school car. Lots of great memories of driving to school my senior year. It was a great car.
We loved all these shows when I was a kid...and everybody wanted a Sting Ray
I remember when even the show biz people were normal.
Happier times.
Only gm could put a 427 in a corvette and a luggage rack on the trunk. Not to mention a sideways am radio. Lol
I was 10 yrs, old in 65. I remember these commercials back then. Made me a gm guy fir life.
The are sexy little cars!
agreed!
I have a 66 Monza 4 door hardtop...Artesian Turquoise., factory A/C. She's a keeper! 😎
i have a 62 ..it can out corner a lot of new cars,,,radial tires are the trick..
Oh man loved those cars wish hey made them like that now
I’m glad to have grown up during the most exciting period in automotive history.
Back when watching tv was great.
Back then vent windows were great
All the different network stars show up on this Chevrolet promo film because all the shows were at one time sponsored by Chevrolet.
Thanks Man.. Little trip down memory lane. 👍
Commercials were weirder and more wonderous back then.
I have a 65 ss hardtop :) stock
braggert !!! ... LOL !!! ... JK, JK , good for you !!! ... Wish I had one in tuxedo black with a 4-speed !!!
I had one of those many years ago.
Great video!! All my favorite shows too! I just love the 65 Corvette! That is a real great looking car! I'd love to test drive that car out on the open highway!!
my 1st car a 1965 Impala SS! best car ever & yes drop dead gorgeous!
You'll be pleased to know that a whole lotta young blokes here in New Zealand are opting for the older cars to restore....Chevy .Impalas, Old Fords, Holdens,,really nice to see...
Bewitched was big with those gorgeous Chevrolet’s same as I dream of Jeannie was for Pontiac motor division.
This is AWESOME!!! Especially when Endora and Hoss check out the Nova --- "I'm sure I could be comfortably transported in this car" It's camp-tastic!!
When cars and movie stars were worth putting in a commercial.
My 1st car was a 65 Belair wagon with a 283 auto. 4 barrel,I still own a 65 Corsa coupe 180 turbo Corvair
@Terry ClarkThanks Terry ,My luck does not stop there , I also own a 64 Greenbrier Deluxe & a 67 Monza drop to! as well 4 other Chevrolet's life is good seeing the USA in a Chevrolet. Glad your 65 turned out great.
@Terry Clark Thanks Terry! my luck does not stop there ,I also own a 64 Greenbrier Deluxe & a 67 Monza drop top as well as 4 other Chevorlet's , it is great to see the USA in a Chevorlet. Glad your 65 Corvair came out great! & no I'm not a sales man for Chevorlet , just a hardcore Bowtie Man!
Now that is when cars were actually beautiful and stylish as well as powerful
As a Corvette owner, I will always look back with awe on the 1963 to 1967 Stingray - one of the most beautiful cars ever made. Of course, the full-size (Biscayne, BelAir, Impala and Caprice) Chevrolets were also quite elegant from any angle.
Back in the day, cars actually changed design almost every year and did not all look the same the way so many do today. Oh, to have 1960s styling with 21st century technology!
1vadude .. ..their called restomods!!!!!.
@@michaelweizer7794 -- Well, yeah.......that is true. I just meant that it would be truly awesome to get one factory new like that.
A company called Year One was making a good restomod of the old 1970s Trans Am awhile back.
Elizabeth Montgomery, Bewichetd 💞
They should do something like this again. I can't remember the last time I paid attention to a car commercial.
