This was a fantastic video. I never heard of a coleus tree before. I was quite impressed. Your selection of coleus around your yard is extensive and beautiful. I like the way you mix them in the containers. I got a lot of great ideas tonight by watching this channel.
Thanks very much. Look I do this for You.. my subscribers...the Military Veterans active and those who gave their lives.....or seriously maimed USO, Wounded Warriors and Paralyzed Veterans Of America 🇺🇸. By you watching you are helping them as well...So THANK YOU!!!
Hi Sandra!! Thanks!! I seemed to overlook scale bugs but removed them from the tree. They were not moving at all so I thought they were brown spots from the old cut nodes. Thanks to a Subscriber who brought them up to me!! I learn from you guys & gals too!! Yes market went well. Looking forward to this Thursday too. Nice to hear from you!!

Thanks for all your inspirational videos. One question please. Have you been successful at this. Soak a Coleus leaf in water. It develops roots, and then grows into a plant. Some people say yes, others say it's impossible. Please help. Thank you Sir Jim.
Hi!! So sorry for the late reply...I sometimes get soooo many that I don't receive the notification updates. I try so hard to answer everyone!!! As for the leaf.....yes I've seen it. What happens most times is it will start to form roots where the center lower axis meets where the stem used to protrude from...so it most likely will start to root . I don't do it as a general practice however.
@@Jimswholiestofcoleus however, you do have great success from root cuttings in water as well. Do you prefer having the roots developing in water first before replanting them. Thanks for your previous reply. Cheers Graham
A couple of mine are exhibiting the woody stem habit....I'm going to go with it now and see what happens....I'm glad I saw this as I was just about to decapitate them and root the tops to start again...Coleus trees are now in my future 😍
Hi Mandy!! Yes I have a few that developed woody stems as well....Very Cool way to expand your Coleus collection. Plus the Woody stem or Coleus Trees are very hearty. I had one for years!!
@jim's wholiest of coleus Oh my goodness, I just had a potentially awesome idea! It may not work but hear me out... Lol. Often, if you have two plants that are closely related, you can graft them. For example, those trees that grow three types of peaches, or the trick to graft a tomato onto another variety that has better root structures. Would coleus work in this way? I'm growing coleus this year so I will definitely do some experimenting....how beautiful would a coleus tree be that grows numerous different colors? Yep....this year I will grow and over winter a few coleus to try but in the mean time, I'm going to see how well youngerplants graft together. It may not work, but how awesome would that be?
Hi Lindsey....ABSOLUTELY....Although I have never grafted Coleus....there are many people who have doneso...and for that very reason....multiple variations on one Coleus tree!! Give it a try. I believe I saw a video on just that
@@Jimswholiestofcoleus could you point me in the direction of the people you have seen doing something like that? Hi Jim, new subbie, nice to meet you. I haven't watched many videos so I don't know if you've mentioned them before, but I'm curious about the pots hanging on the S hooks around the 13 minute mark. What are they called and how can I aquire some? Thank you for sharing your information and supporting our Troops. My husband retired from the Navy after 22 years and has started caring for plants in his free time, these pots would make the perfect gift. Thank you and congratulations on your success.

Yes it takes a bit of time. I had a BEAUTIFUL Scarlet Kong Coleus tree years ago. Unfortunately they don't last forever...I have it on one of my older videos . Will share it when I find it. I just got my new phone....Galaxy s22 + with 5G and I subscribe to an UHD 4k video production App called Power Director which is like $8.99 every quarter. Well worth it. But this video because of the phone did come out 👌! Thanks 😊
ABSOLUTELY!!! This is sooooo important to prevent Root rot which will lead to disease and eventually plant death. If you have a pot that you really love but it lacks drainage....then place a handful of stone on the bottom before adding soil... then Be very conservative with your watering...skipping a day or two to ensure the roots have absorbed what they need and the excess can evaporate or drain under the stone.
Great videos. I've been following you for a couple of weeks. I love how passionate you're about your hobby. Question: You mentioned a supplier of coleus plugs in one of videos, but I'm unable to find it. What's their name?
I would love to see them ! If you have Instagram you can send me a Message there and attach photos...or post them on my Jim's Wholiest of Coleus Facebook page.... or finally my email address www.jimswholiestofcoleus@gmail.com
Hi Jim. Can you tell me how tall a coleus has to be before it begins to bush out? My tallest is 6" and there are no signs of new leaves appearing between the stem and the older leaves.
Excellent question!! By keeping thee top growth trim...by actively trimming the tops will no doubt stimulate undergrowth. Coleus want to keep growing tall.....up to 4 ft!! But keeping it under 14" will make for a nice full plant.
