Hi Jim, It is wonderful to see the passion that you have for your coleus plants. You have inspired me to bring indoors some clippings from my coleus to grow them for next spring since the weather in Ontario is now becoming cool. Thanks for the tip.
HI Rejeanne!! Thanks 😊 so much!!! Just keep weekly water changes....keep the developing roots clean and provide the Rootings with adequate daylight and they should do fine. But I do lose a few...its natural. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment!!!
Oh how quickly these brushes with fate can overwhelm us! I now bring in 5 hibiscus bushes every winter. Finding you means my hibiscus will have company next winter. 😎
Hi Jim, beautiful variety of coleus, love them all. Your hard work has paid off!!! 👏👏👏 I wish I was living there so I could buy some of your Coleus. All the best for your market!!!
Hi Niloofer....Thank you again 😊. Each season I become more critical of myself and my Coleus. I find myself impatient in Spring ....wanting the Benefits of Summer Heat . Well here it is ....Am hoping for a Great Market as well!! THANK YOU!!!
Jim, it’s great to learn how you got into the hobby. I got into coleus, cause it was one of the few shade plant seeds in the store I was shopping at. I saw your channel and now I’m obsessed, I have them growing every where and successfully grew 60 plants from seed. Your videos have been my sole source for research. Thank you for the knowledge.
Vince!! I have a son Vince!! Hey Thanks ....I will keep my channel active plus I have many videos to watch .....In most I repeat over and over the most important things that I think are an elementary foundation to growing and maintenance. I appreciate your following along!! Thanks again Vince!!!
Divine park in spring lake 😊 i live in Brick now but I grew up in monmouth county, 5 min bike ride to my summer job at spring lake beach. Best minimum wage job ever! Best tan of my life lol
Hi Carmen!! That's great news!! As you go thru my Coleus...you will find I REPEAT many times the most important key points. Be patient...expect some failures or mistakes as I have made and experiences over the course of years growing them. Any questions....Im on Instagram as well and you can ask thru the messenger.
If flowers are for the girls, Coleus are for the boys. I also fell in love with the plants. I started collecting them early of 2019. The first one I have was the yellow/green combination in the leaves. I do not know the variety name but the leaves looks like hands. It's like fingers around the edges of the leaves. Until I collect many other varieties up until now and make this a business too. Now I got 37 varieties and still looking for others. I often watching your videos whenever I get time because it always motivates me to keep going. I follow your IG and FB. Thank you Mr. Jim!
Hi Elias!!! Your a great guy!!! Well stated!! I appreciate your following along and please keep in touch!! Sounds like you have quite a collection going. There are sooooooo many varieties!!
@@Jimswholiestofcoleus thank you! Yeah, that's why for me still a very long way to go to find the others. I heard it's more than a thousand, is it true?

Hey, I noticed there are a lot of Coleus videos from the Philippines, Brazil and some from Russia. How come? The Philippines call them Mayana. How come? It would be cool if you could review some of their videos and help us understand what we are looking at. Lots of weird looking Coleus!
Hello isaiah...Isaiah.... Coleus are VERY POPULAR in Sweden, The Philippines & India. It's origins are from Southeast Asia.....Java, Australia and Africa!! I believe Queen Victoria had a hand in its Aussie "roots" as it was during Her reign and Prince Albert's zest for Human expansionism in all facets..Engineering, Horticulture etc.... So it was during that time period when Coleus became Popular & more widespread throughout the World.
Coleus blumei is also another name used by the Swedes for Coleus. Mayana is the Original name of the Coleus plant.....named after an Iranian village. The colorful Coleus leaves had Medicinal properties . Not edible.... The only edible Coleus are a single Very Dark Coleus which can be used as a Tea.
Hi Andrea!!! YES YES YES!!! Plant away!! Coleus grow directly in the earth....However a few caviats.....Never use cedar mulch(poisonous to coleus) also make sure that the temperatures are consistently above 65° f (particularly night temps!!) Also watch for slugs and other ground crawling pests.....ground level Coleus fall easy prey to them. Although 90% of mine are potted...I plant a few in a garden bed around a tree in my front yard.
@@Jimswholiestofcoleus Thank you! Good tip about the mulch! Is there a different type I should use? Straw maybe? After looking at your video though (the one where you show you all-year garden and your driveway that has to conform to NJ zoning rules, grr) I'm thinking that it might look nice to put pots in my garden, where I would normally plant flowers directly in the soil. It would give them some nice height too so they are not hidden too low. Do you have any tips on how not to spend a fortune on potting soil for big pots? I'm guessing that's probably your most expensive part of being the Coleus King.
Where could we get your coleus flowers? Im here in the Philippines. Please reply...i love coleus flowers. Got some but i love to have the watermelon variety. Thank you much..

What could possible eat coleus leaves ? My coleus plants are also attracting little gnats in the soil.... I find my coleus with little holes on the leaves at times
Yes there are a few pests that eat the Leaves....Aphids, White Spiders, Mealybugs....Slugs and Caterpillars All love Coleus leaves. I too have the little gnats...
I’m your very first comment. 😊 Great video, Jim. Cool story about how you got into coleus. 👍 You’ve spread the coleus bug to me this season. I’ve got several varieties started from seed...including a solid black variety...which I think will look amazing, growing along side a hot pink coleus. Keep the inspiring videos coming, Jim. Love them. Your coleus plants are always very beautiful. 💜🧡♥️💚 Thank you. Happy Coleus Growing! Have a great summer. 😃 Oh and P.S. Thank you so much Hollyberry!! I like your idea of the Black and Hot pink varieties!!! I used to do similarly with Jumbo Black and Bright Yellow Holland Tulips years ago but after only one season turned out to be an expensive meal for squirrels..... And I dont have the time to dig them up each winter and replant. I will certainly join your FB group!! Thank you for the invitation!!
It's a combination of reasons.... But primarily I trim the tops to promote or create a fuller foliage Coleus. By the time I sell them they are pretty full so the buyer can do as they please and let it grow tall....develop seed stalks..whatever their pleasure.
Hi Marti.... I have seeds which I sell on my Ebay listing " JIMS COLEUS " I will relist them in October after I Harvest more . Meantime you can roll the dice and buy any pack of Rainbow mix Coleus seeds ....many times they are included in the mix.
Slugs are definitely a problem....They are Voracious Leaf eaters. You can control Slugs from Potted Coleus by placing salted Vaseline around the pot sides which will keep them from climbing the pot to reach the plant. Also you can bury a soup can or two filled with beer nearby which will detract them away from the Coleus
Goog evening Jim, As you know I am in Quebec thé temperature here is 39 degree du ring midnight and approx 59 degree during the date. All my coleus are in pots and inside my house Twice I has the chance to put them out for approx 1 hour each time. When do you think I should put them out defenitely . THANKS for your time I am very greatful. Mariette
Hi Mariette.... Coleus are very sensitive to Temperature changes ...particularly young Coleus. It will not be safe to leave Coleus outside on those 39°f nights. 59° is Ok....but be sure its not too windy. Once night Temperatures moderate and remain above 60°f at night its safe to keep them outside .
