  • @TimLongson
    @TimLongson 10 месяцев назад +1

The speaker of the house should be encharged with, and empowered to, ensuring that the PM and ALL ministers of any current government MUST answer direct questions put to them in parliament. If the PM or minister does not know the answer, they must get back to the questioning parliamentary member with an answer as soon as possible, or they should be held in contempt of parliament. The currently permitted practice for the PM, and other government ministers, of IGNORING the question to just talk about something else proves the basic need for this parliamentary rule as there's no current democratic accountability for running the UK as our government! The British people have the democratic right to question their government, and as opposition MPs are their only real way of doing that, then parliamentary reform guaranteeing direct answers to direct questions is a democraticly necessity, and apparently now REQUIRED as ignoring questions is now the norm for even PMQ, new rule!
If an opposition MP asks a direct question of a member of the government (PM or minister) and they clearly don't answer the question, then the speaker should step in to extract an answer, or if the speaker does not notice, then the MP who asked must have the right to immediately stand and challenge "asked but not answered" of the speaker of the house.
The speakers power for repeated contempt, for the PM and ministers failing to provide a direct answer that satisfies the speaker that the question is answered, must include the authority to access a mechanism, independent of governmental interference, which could suspend that PM or minister for the 10 days necessary to trigger a bi-election. Refusing to be democratically accountable by ANYONE in government, running out country, should result in their removal from the levers of power!

I don’t even watch PMQs anymore.
1: The PM doesn’t turn up.
2: The government keeps blaming Labour… for what? They’ve not been in power for 13 years. This is entirely their own doing.
3: How does the speaker let the DPM talk such rubbish and get away with it? The whole building needs to be demolished. All the stupid rules and conventions and we just need plain talking politics.

if the tories are boasting about building more houses than labour, why is is it still no where near enough? as a bricklayer myself, i can tell him the houseing market is slowing down, due to people not being able to afford them due to the high mortgage rates, his goverment and the bank of england messed up on, stop building houses people cant afford , and have a mass building of council houses which people can afford, its the only answer, wheres the money going to come from? stop overseas aid, this country needs it more at the moment

It's a shame you didn't include Mhairi Black's quip towards Dowden, she was as usual on top form 😂👌🏻
But it really annoys me that a government is allowed to tout a 15 year plan and billions in spending when they're likely to be tossed out on their arse next year

I’m no stranger to being poor, this is the poorest I have ever been.
In all my years of living (38) I have only seen deterioration of living, government overreach and rising costs across the board
Despicable actions and broken promises while the public suffer

Hey @PoliticsJOE Could you 'PLEASE' do a 'Supercut' of 'only' relevant content of PMQs...
i.e. Cut the insults, the campaigning, the nay saying, the false claims of what the other party would do, the stupid noises the gallery make, the blatant lies and political point scoring.
    And just show
the real questions and the actual answers.
    I'd love to see that.
Granted i think the video will only be seconds long, But it would be nice to see what we taxpayers are actually paying for.

Why don't Labour or any political party think of helping home owners who are living in their mortgaged property to allow then to continue on their fixed rate mortgages for at least 2 years when it comes to an end. It is high time the lenders to protect their mortgaged customers from the impact of rising rates which are being risen but the rich leaders who are responsible for raising interest rates are doing so for their own benefit. Raising interest rates are adding to the woes of the people and not taming inflation as the businesses are running on debt.
