Surprised the Speaker didn’t interrupt Raab for using “she” and “her” without using her title first - according to parliamentary usage of language, he has to use her title - whatever it is - first then he can say “she says” further into his rely.
@Stefano Pavone I can understand your point, trouble is, it comes down to the rules of conduct. Even the PM can be thrown out for that. Just as calling someone a liar will. Dennis Skinner called David Cameron “dodgy dave” and was thrown out because he refused to withdraw the comment - he didn’t have to apologise to Cameron, he had to “withdraw the comment” which means he said it, so it gets recorded, but that he withdrew it at the Speakers request. It’s a jargon thing. If he was directly quoting a constituent he would need to make their name available for records & show any letters etc to a member of the administration to keep him clear. It is weird, but the formal etiquette of language in the Commons (and the Lords) is stuck in the past and unfortunately it’s in the “constitution” of practice and behaviour for the whole place. Look at the recent fuss about an MP breastfeeding her baby (disguised by a towel) so she could attend an urgent call to the commons - the only excuse for not attending would be if you were stuck in traffic - out of the country etc Bercow had to fight to allow MPs to go without ties just to stop idiots like Jacob Rees Mogg moaning that female MPs shouldn’t be present unless they wore a tie. It is a lot of antiquated nonsense, but it would take 100% agreement in the Commons, Lords and Monarchy for it to be changed.
@@andycowie2110 Boris tried to name one MP by the title she gained by marriage (I forget who she is, and neither she of her husband use the titles at all) and he was told off by the Speaker for inappropriate and insulting language and ordered to apologise to the MP in question and to the house - if not he would have (honestly) have been in trouble as with it being a title of “nobility” it gets passed direct to the Queen to decide on a suitable punishment and she can’t just let him off. Our system is weird, with the language, but it’s tied to the constitution of our democracy. You can’t jump to “he” or “she” from the start, you have to name the person by their title first. It’s like PMQs they have to ask Question One at the beginning which is basically a perfunctory request for the PM to say what he is doing that day. Then you get questions from the Opposition and he/she is limited to their fixed number or questions, then he gets an easy question, then 2 from Ian Blackford SNP (majority party in Scotland) then another easy one, then the Leader of the LibDems, an easy one and so on. It’s why the calls to resign were spread out.

How is Angela Rayner not the actual Labour Party leader? She would be much more effective, stong and confident than Keir Starmer. I like Keir but he's too weak unfortunately. Angela actually comes across as electable and willing to fight for change without getting scared.
She burnt her bridges with the left of the party, which would be her natural constituency politically, to curry favour with Starmer. “Hot air” ? ... Literally more from one side against their own advice ditching masks in enclosed spaces again. While noticing fewer people heeding that advice since those in power can’t be bothered, I’m fed up mentioning to people that this simple thing in public tight spaces, where everyone needs to go, lowers circulation and reduces risk for vulnerable people. I may be a cancer patient, but I’m actually more concerned if I (or anyone else) were to inadvertently take infection to the most vulnerable fellow patients in hospital. Everything they say and everything they do gives no real regard for protecting our fellow citizens - the most basic of requirements for governments.

Surprised the Speaker didn’t interrupt Raab for using “she” and “her” without using her title first - according to parliamentary usage of language, he has to use her title - whatever it is - first then he can say “she says” further into his rely.
Quite agree, the PM does this all the time as well, never gets pulled up on it. To the men 'my Right Honourable' etc, to the ladies 'she'.
@Stefano Pavone
I can understand your point, trouble is, it comes down to the rules of conduct.
Look at the recent fuss about an MP breastfeeding her baby (disguised by a towel) so she could attend an urgent call to the commons - the only excuse for not attending would be if you were stuck in traffic - out of the country etc
Bercow had to fight to allow MPs to go without ties just to stop idiots like Jacob Rees Mogg moaning that female MPs shouldn’t be present unless they wore a tie.
It is a lot of antiquated nonsense, but it would take 100% agreement in the Commons, Lords and Monarchy for it to be changed.
@@andycowie2110
Boris tried to name one MP by the title she gained by marriage (I forget who she is, and neither she of her husband use the titles at all) and he was told off by the Speaker for inappropriate and insulting language and ordered to apologise to the MP in question and to the house - if not he would have (honestly) have been in trouble as with it being a title of “nobility” it gets passed direct to the Queen to decide on a suitable punishment and she can’t just let him off.
