I heard their mixtapes and didn’t know much but knew I had to be there to witness some talent into he rise. Came back home to australia and watched this shit live on TV 6 months later - they didn’t even have a single out and they chose this song to expose them to the world. I’m 30 now with a kid on the way and watching this I can still feel how I felt back then. Lightning in a bottle shit.

Almost ten years later, seeing and hearing this again, with my own kids and a career- absolutely NUTS seeing how unbelievably cool this actually was, how their own careers panned out, and how theyve gone on influening the world.

It's funny to see stuff like new rappers who embrace screaming get told they're biting 69 or wearing balaklavas and getting told they're biting shiesty but OF was doing this shit a decade ago.
Not really. They, OF, were doing their own thing, but people before them were doing, wearing and presenting the same imagery. Rage Against the Machine. Ice T, old Ice T. Cop Killer Ice T. He rapped with a metal band and DJ. Then theres M.O.P. they rapped over punk, as Mashed Out Posse, before they went full steam hip hop/rap. OFWGKTA just did it better and stuck around. Mostly... MellowHype is still one of my favorite albums.
