It's gotta be Wiseau. He has never liked the idea of his film being seen a joke, and takes his work very seriously. Going on a comedy show and then freaking out when they try to be comedic is absolutely something he would do.
It was Tommy Wisaeu, the 'thing they were doing that required standing' would've been throwing around a football. As The Room has multiple scenes of the characters doing that whilst engaging in dialogue. Especially because the interview continued whilst the action was being done. If it was 2017 then that was when Disaster Artist was coming out so he would've gone on as promo for that.
The discussion about the origin of Dink it & Sink it was super cool. I'm attempting to watch every episode of GMM in order and I just watched Will It Pie the other day! Here's another fun fact: The origin of "As you can see, we can't" was in the immediately previous episode, Epic Wrap Battle. Was really surprising to see that the origin of 2 crazily iconic phrases were in back-to-back episodes.
and I bet the thing they wanted to do from his movie was play catch, since in The Room three of the main characters play catch while having a conversation, and with Tommy, Rhett and Link, that'd be 3 as well, and they could interview him while playing catch

I was initially thinking the eccentric director was Quentin Tarantino, but I just watched some clips from the Room, and I now agree with everyone who thinks it was Tommy Wiseau.
First impulse was Tarantino, and then a few seconds later I was like "Oh, this is gonna be Tommy Wiseau." lol Neil Breen is my third guess, but I don't know enough about him to really judge that.
"I've been using dink it and sink it long before I watched Good Mythical Morning" implies that they might have heard it from someone who *did* watch Good Mythical Morning, but they think it was coined before.
Oh I am a huge advocate of an ex-boyfriend bonfire! After my year and a half relationship ended when I was in high school (he was incredibly abusive and it ended when he SAed me) I burned everything that I could that held any connection to him, and it was soooo therapeutic. LET IT BURRNNN 🔥🔥🔥 I felt like Eliza Hamilton 😅
I can imagine the 'dink it and sink it' thing being something said locally without too much popularity, until these two gave it more of a spotlight. It wouldn't be the first time an idea was created multiple times complete independent from each other.
It’s definitely more widespread than just regional. I have heard it all my life throughout the South of the United States, from Louisiana up through North Carolina.
My guess for the filmmaker is Neil Breen, if not Tommy Wiseau. He's VERY eccentric, stars in all of his work, and takes his movies very seriously. He's aware of the infamy of his work, but doesn't want to play into the memes and jokes. He views what he does as serious art, so I can see him getting sensitive to "being made fun of". It prob is Tommy Wiseau, but I'd say Neil Breen is a solid second guess.
I'd agree with you, except that Breen is an independent filmmaker who doesn't hold any sway in Hollywood. They specifically mentioned not wanting to burn any bridges with casting agents etc, so it's gotta be somebody with more than just a cult following
Without fail, every time my wife and I try something new or taste something we wont bite or taste without saying "dink it and sink it" and that is because of GMM.
It was absoltely Tommy Wiseau, and I'd also hazard a guess that they were tossing around a football during the interview, which is what they were hinting at.
I see your point Rhett and yes that is the best thing to do. But also whoever it was can’t just act like that and not get anything for it. If the person can act that way to strangers they probably do that to so many others they need called out.
You had the Chicago segment perfect until the stomach lined with deep dish. Most of us don’t like deep dish, we like tavern style. We just bring the visitors to eat deep dish because that’s all we have.
Idk, maybe it’s just me, but if somebody had been unfaithful to me and basically screwed me over after just jumping into living together, I wouldn’t be down with being cool with any cousins/friends who are still cool with them…🤷♂️ To clarify, I’m not saying that you should be in control of your cousins/friends decisions about who they want to be friends with, but I think it’s fair to have an honest adult conversation with your cousins/friends and telling them you don’t want to be cool with them for the time being. 🤷♂️

I've always wondered about the dink it and sink it... The first time I heard it was on GMM but saw it printed on glasses at a bougie store in lake Geneva Wisconsin..I don't think the clientele there would be cool enough for GMM 😂
As someone who's lived in the Chicago area for 92% of my life, I can confirm that our famous belief that the other side of the "lake" (as the rest of the world insists on calling it) is Europe stems from our desperate wish for a world where Michigan doesn't exist.
