I really like the sound of this bow.
Technically in 13th century the presence of hemp and such instead of sinew is fairly likely due to widespread availability. Pretty much from the XII century onwards we see a lot of silk and "Chinese nettle" (it may not be the correct English name, I literally translated it from my native language) clothing and writtem mentions of those materials replacing wool en masse for example.
That's of course hypothetical for bows as we have very few examples from that period, and sinew and cords tend to be "first to go" when decomposition kicks in.
Pretty sure that’s modern jute
@@aoe2_elo037It's a fiberglass bow 😭🤣
I have their Mongolian horse bow 50lbs and their Turkish longbow 60lbs, they’re both great but I do have to say I prefer the horse bow to the long bow
turkish... longbow?
@@Xtorin_Housecat_Ohern lol yeah it’s a tall recurve
@@DirtyHrnt111 i wasn't aware AF made such a thing, and i can't find it on their site
@@Xtorin_Housecat_Ohern it’s showing as currently unavailable for me too, it’s not listed as Turkish recurve but the style is the same. AF Archery Longbow Traditional horsebow recurve Hunting Bow Archery (60lbs,with Reinforcement) that’s the actual listing
@@DirtyHrnt111 interesting, i can't even find an old listing, the turkish style grip is one of my favorites, and a longer bow with that style would be quite interesting... maybe one day Simsek will make the XL Sipahi i heard they were considering at one point.
It’s 99 bucks!!!!!!!!!
That’s cheap for 2023
Yea
Nice
Unfortunately shipping probably costs another $100
I like it! It has a distinct siyah and kassan, which is nice and historical.
I agree on that hairy whipping. The whipping looks less fuzzy than some. I'd think about giving it a couple of coats of pine tar and linseed oil. It will solidify the whipping a little and make it look better.
using the words kassan lol thats a turkish word.

Loved how you switched between Mediterranean and thumb draw! I’m inspired and will be practicing that. Very cool 😎🏹
This earned my sub
appreciate you
I love that they didn't put a logo on it
Honestly as nice as laminated bows are they come with their own issues, Fiberglass bows used to be crap but the last 10 years they have improved 1000 percent. They also look amazing and better. IMO
Fiberglass bows look more historical anyways cuz laminate show off their glass
I also find another benefit from these fibreglass bows... You can literally leave them outside and forget about em and they still shoot amazing no fails. I dont even unstring em anymore. My oldest one is coming up on its 5years lifetime so far. And its still like the day I received it. And thats a normal cheapass fibreglass. There are also carbonfiber ones. They claim its better than fibreglass, but I dunno, cant tell yet since they are relatively new and I havent owned them even a year yet. They feel more durable tho but time will tell. And I treat em the same way like the cheap one.
Perfect bows for the apoc if someone is into that kind of stuff. But that said. I ONLY like fibreglass/carbonfiber bows/limbs if its for horsebows or at least a very short bows/limbs in general. Bc once limbs get long you can kinda feel it imho. The fibreglass longbows and recurve bows arent that great rly imho. You can tell its "cheap" feeling. But ofc you also compare it with the price or another personal reason, which is for me the durability/less maintenance, and sense of security feeling not worrying about it breaking/diminishing easily.
There was a time when bows were under 100$
This is 99

There was also a time 5$ bot you everything under the sun apparently my grandfather so.
Great vid Jack. I really like your review vids mate.
Is that the same one PMZ Archery has now for like $50, wasn't sure if it was Hungarian or what?, but yeah, it has turned out to be one very fun bow!, enjoyed it a lot more than i thought i would.
Different siyah design

Hey, Jack. I also make fiberglass bows here in Brazil. I really can't find artificial sinew, I would love to find something similar, do you have other suggestions on how I can historically accurate decorate my bows? They are built like the one in the video. I love your channel, keep it up!
alibow genghis khan and this AF mongolian bow which one is better?
About the same
Nice work
I have a Grozer Hungarian bow 45#, very similar to this, I live it
Nice man
I got 50 pound one for a Christmas gift and I did not get a bow string with it. I did make my own bow string for it. I just ordered a 35 pound one, so I can work the feel of the thumb draw.
Darn I’m sorry
Ok quite random... Where did you get your top that looks like a blue gi of some sort? Really like it. Thanks let me know please.
lol don’t remember probably Walmart
@@HistoricalWeapons Oh no... Walmart... I'm from the UK lol. What's the name of the top like so I can search it properly please. Thanks for the response.
There seems to be another Mongolia fiberglass bow in sale at AF Archery. It costs $85 and up to #70. Does anyone know is that any good?
do you know of any lower priced bows like this that have at least 60+ pound draw? Im looking for something exactly like this but I need more power!
Just pull it further
Alibow
@@qr1-tg1wi I actually placed an order with alibow several weeks ago and never even so much as recieved an order confirmation, no email no nothing,, I have emailed them and no answer back. They sure took $190 from me tho
Two questions.
1. Would you recommend painting on the limbs of this bow? I intend to do so to eventually gift it, and I'm not keen on doing it on a laminate.
2. When you shoot, I notice that you don't wear bow hand protection. How do you keep the fletching from cutting into your hand?
There is no difference if you paint it or they do it. Decorate away 👍 But if you mean full on change of colour then airbrush or at least spraypaint it. Dont paint it with a brush. If you are jsut making decorative work use any sort of paint you want. Just dont want a thicc layer of paint on the entire limb :D Wont destroy it tho, just worried it will take some of the speed out of the limbs, but cant say for sure. Just a hunch. But either way it will be way prettier if you spray it in some way.
When you shoot off the shelf/hand, you notice when he nocks the arrow its not sitting on a perfect 90degree angle. Its nock is raised ever so slightly making it maybe more like maybe a 87degree angle (it differs from person to person and arrows), that makes the arrow clear the shelf/hand when released bc it contracts and then when it expands it expands in a 90 degree angle to the string now clearing your shelf/hand. And is also usually required for a well tuned arrow bc you dont want the arrow to smack onto the shelf/hand either for flying true purposes. But that nock point being raised a bit is what helps against arrows hitting/scratching the hand, and for shelfs its what helps it to not have an arrow stick with a nock high and fly "downwards" always.
@@DK_1983 Thanks for the tips!)
@@lemagicbaguette1917 your welcome :)
How do you feel this compares to the alibow Ghengis Khan bow? They seem similar and are about the same price.
I personally prefer the af cuz it’s more historically accurate
@@HistoricalWeapons thank you!

Yes

I ordered a 30# version for archery tag style battlegames for 13th cent. reenactment. I am curious about it
Can you shoot a 30lbs lol? Arent they usually like 25lbs max? Make sure you know this before, bc its literally an assault charge, and then depending on your country it may or may not be a worse charge... Like "intent" or some "attempt" .. shit I dunno xD I just think they will call it "assault with a deadly weapon" most likely. Or will you not be hitting/shooting at each other during that reenactment?
这东西在国内是330,换成美金差不多45USD. How much is it for you guys?
I just called them and they dont speak English "is this af archery?" They responded with a confused sounding vocabulary word in a language im yet to learn and awkward quietness lol definitely worth it i love recurves the Mongolians did it the best. Where can i find one in America?
Best to email them so they can take the time and translate
@@HistoricalWeapons thank you
I think it’s a lot cooler to not have a modern branding on it - looks way cooler and more authentic. That said I totally agree about the omission of draw length. I think ur thumb got tired man, sorry but the bow has no shelf so it makes med draw really cumbersome.
😮
Oh
Weird they dont put their name on it.
No complaint
🗿👍🏿
It is better to have longer working limb and shorter siyah. I dont like that design. Mongol design promite stacking at shorter draw length
It’s cheaper
