I've never heard of Oblomov! Thanks for the recommendation. I didn't know there was a challenge to read long books during the summer. Randomly I did read The Dark Forest by Liu Cixin, which was over 500 pages, and I listened to Kristen Lavransdatter as one huge 47-hour audiobook (so it was the three Kristen Lavransdatter books combined into one).
Hope you enjoy Oblomov, it was deep, moving, funny, and romantic all in one book. Good job on your reads. I have Kristen, good to know it's available as an audiobook, but 47 HOURS!!!
I've been following your thoughts on the guy-on-the-couch book and might have to pick it up now that you've rated it 5 stars. 😊 I read 5 big books this summer: Evergreen by Belva Plain (698) The Golden Cup by Belva Plain (602) Tess of the d'Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy (426) Tapestry by Belva Plain (554) The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins (469)
Thanks Pat, I'm doing well! I talk about it more in my June (?) wrap-up, which is the month where I read it. It's very fascinating and sad. Hope you're also well.
Good morning, Nicole! I read Hidden Valley Road and enjoyed it but had a hard time keeping track of all the sons. Recently there was a docuseries based on the book and it helped me sort them out.
Good morning. I read the two Tommy Orange books. Can I add them together? I heard an interview with him and he said he has written another book. Help me watch out for it. I am still searching for more indigenous authors.
I will also be on the lookout for it. I plan on reading his book Wandering Stars in October/early November due to the restoration holiday that my Tribe celebrates. I have finished ‘There, There.’ this past week and I am still reeling from the ending.
@Stormbrise I honestly think that Wandering Stars was a smidgen better. I hope the book ends up on the Booker Prize shortlist which is announced on the 15th. I would be interested in hearing your reaction. It would be great if it won the Pulitzer
I will definitely keep an eye out. I plan on reading I own Almanac of the Dead ( a real chunker) but an Indigenous author and a book that is supposed to be ground breaking. I'll see one day, but you could check that out.
lol. Who has the opposing opinion? They may have some good points. It's by no means the perfect book, but I liked it way more than I expected to. then again, it reminds me of a few people in my life, so that may have helped.
ok, found it! watched it! So, two thoughts Tiffany was feeling slumpy at the time and also thought it was going to be really funny. It's funny at times for sure, but much more than that too. So, it may just not have been what she expected? I do agree with her point that towards the end (last 100-50pgs?) it started to feel too long. For a different perspective (and another excellent channel) check out Brock (?) @theactivemind he did an entire video on the book including his knowledge from a Russian lit background and a section on "why you should read it". His is more thorough than Tiffany's and my review and may help you decide. Happy reading!
I completed 961 pages for this challenge but only actually completed one book and two books half way. 😊Not a good reading summer for me. I still hope to go back to the Shell Seekers to finish it but I am taking a break for now. You would probably like it?
A dnf after 900 pages! 😂 I get you. I felt the urge to dnf Ducks, Newburyport even with just 20 pages left. I was so ready to be done with it.
I'd say glad I'm not the only one, but that just seems cruel. Either way, I guess we're not alone.

Some great reads! I really enjoyed Oblomov. There's definitely elements of the romance that remind me of Hardy.
Hi Nicole. I've been wanting to read Hidden Valley Road. I enjoyed hearing your thoughts on it. Hope you're doing well.

Yes, I definitely got family members confused. Thanks for letting me know about the docuseries! Might have to give it a watch.

I know this is a random question but I was wondering what did you go to college for what did you major in and what job do you do right now?
I'm actually going to do a Q & A Video for my 1yr Booktube Anniversary next month. Do you mind if I wait and answer this then?
@noteworthyfiction sure that's fine
@@KenyaCarter517 great! Yours will be the first question answered.
Oh no, I'm torn! You and one of my favorite other booktubers have opposite opinions about Oblomov. 😂

@noteworthyfiction it's Tiffany @beautifulminutiae . She didn't hate it, but didn't like it that much.
@@Dinadoesyoga oh! Ok. I watch Tiffany but haven't been watching booktube regularly lately. Definitely interested to hear her thoughts on it!

I don't know. You seem to be suffering through it. I'll wait to see your final thoughts when you one day finish it.
@@noteworthyfiction Nicole, I just wrote you this long comment and then accidentally deleted it. 🤣 I guess it wasn't important.
@@theresas709 oh no! I've definitely done that before.
