It’s weird. Seeing ppl so ignorant, in a way. I get you haven’t seen the movie in the first few years. Can’t afford theaters, for one. But, haven’t seen movies because……
Denzel is extraordinary in this movie. The way he makes you want to root for him the whole time through sheer charisma "maybe he has a reason" "Well maybe the profession has jaded him" "just teaching him a lesson". Then he reaches a point where you realize he's just a piece of shit and suddenly you want Hawke to get revenge. Yet you can't help but feel a little sad at the end when he's shot down. Great movie, great reaction!
I completely agree with you except the last part. By the end I had no sympathy for him. At that point it just seemed like street justice where all his bad deeds caught up with him

@@Jaybeast5x Naw, this was on TV a fair bit at one point so most people have seen it but there's a lot of movies that get no air time that most people will never see. I never saw North by Northwest on tv but it's a pretty fun average Joe becomes James Bond kinda movie 10 years before that series even started. I doubt Holden's ever seen that movie and hundreds of others either.
This shows how Denzel has tons of charisma. He's playing his most evil character and Jen and Holden are just laughing and giggling at lots of his antics, like "Oh Denzel, is he drinking and driving, hee hee hee!"
…I nearly fell of my chair when Holden said “I recognised Terry Crews from the back of his head” and Jen responded “do you know how weird that sounds” and back to Holden’s uncomfortable “hahaha” 😂😂 you made my day guys 👏…

There was a Training Day tv series that aired a couple years ago starring Bill Paxton in reverse white guy durty cop Denzel lead. It was actually very very good, but he had his emergency heart issue and unfortunately died on the table before they could come back for a 2nd season. It makes me wanna cry writing this because I adored bill as an actor and this was his last role in his career. It's a fantastic 1st and only 1 season of this series. I would suggest checking it out privately. I think you two would love it. RIP Bill Paxton. 😢
When the studio originally came up with the idea for the Training Day tv series they went to Ethan Hawke for the lead. They wanted him to play his original character Jake Hoyt, but they wanted him to have been 20 years older and be the villain of the series. They wanted his character to turn into Alonzo. But Hawke turned them down and they created the Bill Paxton character.
Yes love this. This is what Denzel won his Oscar for. This was actually based on the Rampart Division police dept. in Los Angeles, Denzel’s character was a real cop.
Given Holden’s opinion on corrupt cops I’d be curious to see his reaction to Street Kings which is written and directed by David Ayer, the writer of Training Day, and a similar setting/story, and has a great performance by Keanu Reeves. A lot of people aren’t huge fans of it, but I think it’s a great follow up to Training Day.

This movie has a few Marvel characters in it. Ethan Hawke aka Harrow (Moon Knight) Scott Glenn aka Stick (Daredevil/Defenders) Eva Mendes aka Roxanne (Ghost Rider) Terry Crews aka Bedlam (Deadpool 2)
I saw that movie in the theater back in 2001. I remember leaving it asking, “Is this the first time Denzel Washing’s ever played a bad guy?”. I was telling people, you have to see this movie. The scene where he beat up the two crack heads, the scene where he used the fake search warrant. When I was in college, one Spanish guy who was kind of ghetto said, the way the character of Alonzo was was the way real police officers should be. What’s sad is that before body cameras came out is the way police officers were, now most of them are like Ethan Hawke until they forget they are being recorded like those cops in Tennessee.
I love this film because it's really about your morals and principles. Jake and Lonzo literally live and die by them. Also this is really Denzel's first true villain role so watching the first time in theaters everyone was waiting for him to not be that evil. We were waiting for the twist and that he was undercover. Denzel once said in an interview, that he would only agree to playing this character if he would die in the end. He couldn’t justify someone so messed up surviving in end. That’s also why his death is so violent, it’s like all his f up stuff caught up with him.
The boy on the couch with Macy Gray played in the first scene of Black Panther. Denzel's character is based on an actual crooked cop. He talked about how despicable the character was. He actually avoided his family while playing this role.
Training Day is amazing, the atmosphere is so thick you can taste it. You really feel danger is around the corner throughout the movie which makes sense given it's in the hood. The supporting cast is also good with Ethan Hawke, Eva Mendes, Scott Glenn, Cliff Curtis, Snoop Dogg and even Dr Dre to name a few. One of my favourite crime thrillers!

"No. That's Ethan Hawke."
I didn't realize until this exact moment that you look like Matt and Ethan's love child.
5:53 that's hilarious - I've watched about 5 reactions to this film over the past year, and this was the one and only time I quoted Wayne Brady as he hit the brakes, and you guys are the only ones who inserted that scene from Chapelle Show!! 😂
"Man on Fire" is another great one I'd recommend
Denzel performance in training day might be the best ever
I love this movie . I love Antoine Fuqua (director) movies . Oscar winner Denzel is and was Amazing!
Denzel is my favorite actor and one of the greatest of all time. These shows his genius acting prowess. Amazing movie.
The Chapelle’s Show cut 😂 that’s one of the funniest skits
The equalizer is must watch
Masterpiece ever. Greatness
Love this movie, one of the greatest crime thrillers movies of all time and one of the greatest movie villains of all time in Denzel which won him and Oscar and an also amazing performance by Ethan which got him nominated for an Oscar... 9/10
This was great the fact that you hadn't seen this great movie and she had made this a more worthwhile watch.
I woke up, had a notification for my Husband Watches Training Day, and didn’t even get out of bed! This is a great movie, glad y’all liked it!
Denzel the greatest actors of all time he nail this movie hard awesome .
FUN FACT: Terry Crews was only watching the scene being made from a distance, someone noticed him and invited him in to be a thug. Heard him talk about it in a podcast somewhere... Justin Long podcast i think
Denzel's best role IMO
Awesome reaction! Both of you were awesome as always and it being a My husband watches was a nice change! The only thing that could have made it better is if when Holden asks "are they arresting him" if Jen had said "Who's to say". Would have been the best of call backs lol. Great film and great take on it!
Inside Man would make for a fun Denzel reaction if either Jen or Holden haven't seen it.
Inside Man was an awesome movie, really enjoyed it.
I want to give Boston the biggest hug
You guys need to watch Swordfish with Hugh Jackman, John Travolta and Halle Berry
I wonder how many times Scott Glenn gets mistaken for David Carradine lol 🤔
“Oh where, oh where has my little Jake gone , oh where, oh where can he be” 😂😂😂
Classic film. All actors gave a fantastic performance. The black cop with the cornrows named "Paul" is Dr Dre.
20:48 “Just make sure that bathtub is clean.”
That’s the biggest foreshadow to have ever foreshadowed.
Jesus christ, what a great movie.
After watching this I would recommend Street Kings with Keanu Reeves, Chris Evans, Forest Whitaker
