❤Dee, you are looking great! 😊
And this was a good subject for many,👍 as a society we've learned to depend on so much more than ourselves.
I've lived much of my 70 years in the country so there's a lot of hands on learning there. Tho, I must admit that in the last few years I've gotten lazy. I do have two old, pickups, trailers, and a shanty at base camp. And not knowing what the future may bring, almost every thing has some forms of survival items in it. Tho, I seem to always be shifting it around for one reason or another, perhaps it's just my excersise? Base camp has electric, so my greatest fear with no power would be my great well going down, tho I probably have a month of water stored up. I have a propane stove, and wood stove, and empty jars, so I could can, the little fridge and freezer stuff. Here there are some trees for shade. I've no Jenny, as they do take a lot of fuel. I've a little solar, a jackery, oil lamps, candles, and lots of camping type items. For years in the past I did live off grid, before it was cool, again. 😂
But I'm afraid like so many people in the world today, I would have major, major cell phone with-draws. Mostly the kids texts, you tube, movies, audio books and?
So if, I can get past those, I should be OK 🤔😕😳😟🙄😜???
I do have a ton of real books, foods, and am use to neighbors a mile away.
Thank you for sharing, hopefully some people will think 🤔👍

Our swamp cooler broke down in Tucson when I was a teenager. Thank God we had a swimming pool and Tucson has low humidity. We were in and out of the pool all day. And we slept outside at night. We got through those few days. I wouldn't want to do it all the time. I would rather go north or up in the mountains.
I'm going to have to get a generator so I can have some AC. Great video Dee, thank you. 😊❤👍

Hi Dee, I hope you are having a good day. Glad you got your phone problem solved. Very good topic discussion on this video. So true we all need to have a plan for a situation like this. Or on a large scale event. I actually have an old clock radio I keep put up incase of tornado or emergency. It uses a 9V battery. I also have two little power banks that recharge cell phones or small items because even if cell service is down the flashlight would still come in handy.

Great advice for preparing the black out scenario! I can stay off grid if I need to; because I have 1.9kW of solar panels on the roof. I can always bypass the on grid connection to run things during the day and charge up all of my portable power stations to keep things running at night.

hi Dee - that is really uinpleasant, and especially on your age, alone and having medical issues, that is quite stressfull. Unfortunately, these things happen all the time. Phonecompanies usually have people in their service that lack brains, are rude and make mistakes contantly. Good that you managed to get help from your friend and that you made back-up plans for this situation. Glad you are safe and OK. Warm greetings, JAson

Our electric power went down here in Santa Fe, NM for about 4 hours on June 11th, yesterday at night. I used just one tea lite candle, kept the fridge closed and knew I could charge my phone turning on my truck, if needed. It was a good wake up call to research for a back up system. Our apartments are old adobe construction from the 1950's. Adobe stays cool inside if the windows stay closed and the sun doesn't come into the apt during the day. I was thinking of you in the Quartz Site summers.

Great video Dee. Being prepped for emergencies is very important. We have solar and batteries for back up power here and battery packs to keep them charged. I believe the Cell phone companies have generator backups for their antenna sites. We also lost power here recently for 8 hours caused by a wind storm that blew 2 poles down.

I hate losing power. But I do think we’re even more prepared than we used to be now that we have power stations that we use for camping. They work great for short term power outages. Maybe it’s because I’m older, but I just feel it’s so important to be prepared for such incidents. However, we can’t run ac on them. But we do have little usb fans we can use. Buddy heater is great for winter outages. Phone issues make me crazy. The prices that phone companies charge, I feel there should never be outages or at the very least we should be reimbursed for the time lost and inconvenience. Hopefully no more issues for you.

Here in New England, it is normal to lose power for a few hours on a few different days per year, especially in winter. Sometimes an ice storm will knock down enough power lines that our power is out for a day or two. The winter before last, we lost power for about 5 days. We ran a generator about 1/3 of the time, to run the house heating system, fridge, and charge up my power station, LiFePO4 battery, phones, laptops, and power banks. When the generator was off, we didn't open the house fridge or freezer, but could open the 12V freezer still running off the power station. The power station was kept topped up by the LiFePO4 battery. Every few hours we'd run the generator and repeat the cycle. It was some work, but we managed to keep functioning pretty normally for several days.
It was not fun. Since then, we bought a big, reliable generator that runs off gasoline, propane, or natural gas (which we don't have). It has remote start, but still needs us to pour the gasoline in. Not sure if we'll install a big permanent propane tank to avoid that. I've also gotten a bigger LiFePO4 battery, with plans to add some solar on the garage roof, but for now it just gets charged when power is on, or from the generator, or from an inverter on a car.

Good info. I have a tracfone for emergencies. I think they have them all over the US. In Washington state they sell for
about 20.00 and another 20 for 60 minutes of talk time that is good for 90 days.Any minutes not used roll over for the next 3 months.
The 7 -11's sell them as does Target stores. Mine costs me less than 10 bucks a month.
They are just a flip phone but are good for emergency's. Take care

Very important topic today. I am so glad you gave us your wisdom. Dee I believe I missed something, are you not living in a RV, motorhome trailer whatever anymore? Just wanted to know what your living situation is nowadays Are you on the road or not? I did something very stupid I had a 25-ft class c motorhome. due to chronic illnesses and disabilities I had in home supportive services All was well. I was parked and paying rent at my mechanics lot. I was in my RV going up a hill going to make a U-turn so I would have to put the pedal to the metal so to say, but I wasn't in drive I was in reverse. Well Dee guess what, I hit a huge phone pole. I totaled my 25 ft class c motorhome. totaled it. So they ended up towing it away and I had no RV and nowhere to go Anyways I have a place now temporarily and with the money I got from the total I'm trying to think of the best way to get me a place to live. If anybody reads this and they have any ideas I thought even about buying a big shed and turning it into a tiny tiny home on my mechanics lot again where my motorhome was.
    again thank you Dee

@@BoxVanDee hey there Dee. Thanks so much for replying to me, I do appreciate it. That's what I did when I couldn't travel anymore I just got too sick and too disabled to keep on nomading it all the time. So I got a spot at my mechanics shop paid rent, real cheap but I wouldn't leave my motorhome. I think once we live in it and we got that bug and we are a nomad at heart, even when we're parked and kicking back for however long years whatever we want to be in our RV.
I am bummed for such a STUPID blunder I did.
I have 3 working phones. I use the Government Phone. It is TRULY UNLIMITED FAST DATA. Meaning if I want to be on RUclips watching things for 10 hours a day it will never buffer. I heard you mention something about you had a phone like that and I got to find out what it is because that phone is no longer going to be that way any longer I've had that phone now for a few years but they're taking away that plan they did. So I'll be listening very carefully about the phone you said has truly unlimited everything. BLESSINGS

I use Red Pocket (ebay) reseller for my backup phone. 100 Talk 100 Text 500MB for $60.00 a YEAR. I've been using them for about 5 years, chose Verizon as the carrier, never have had a problem.
Would getting a portable evaporative cooler for emergency use be feasible? Since they only run a fan and a water pump, maybe your power setup would be enough? Just a thought.
