      -----------
@slimj091 did you find this clip funny? Because if it's representative of the show...... I just wrote this comment about the humour:
      ----------------
I think the issue is new vs old ST fans. Old ST fans like smart shows, and that's why they dislike the recent shows. The new ST fans are the opposite, they love the new dumb stuff. Hence, dumb jokes and dumb humour for dumb fans.
To me, humour seems to be humour aimed at very young children... So to enjoy it or find it funny as an adult, you need somehow to have the mind/IQ of a child, because it's just coarse, simplistic and childish... Like the old pie in the face gag...
      ---------------
And yeah sure I'll happily admit not having watched the show. Have you seen The Critical Drinker episode on Lower Decks? Because it perfectly illustrates my thoughts on the matter. I just rewatched it, and he totally nailed most of the issues with the show.

He'd just have to pull himself back together if bits of him got blown off by the blast. Drop him into a star, and he'd just feed on it till it went out, and he'd probably ride the blast wave into the depths of space.

I think when it comes to Liking/Hating STLD, it comes down to how they view the comedy being applied. Star Trek is older than many of us here, and there's enough content to literally have entire seasons of nothing but easter eggs. And that's what a lot of its comedy relies on: Callbacks and easter eggs. One's millage may vary, with a lot of easier to appease geeks just gushing over all the details. But a lot of people think that kind of humor is just low-hanging fruit and not funny.
For character comedy, many are rubbed the wrong way. Mariner comes off as a sue in which the writers recognized she's a sue and heap incidental trouble on to disguise it. Boimler comes across as an incapable whiny brat of a young man who can't do anything well without Mariner there to bail him out. It's kind of David Lister and Arnold J. Rimmer of Red Dwarf, but in Star Trek. The capable slacker, and the incapable try-hard. But it comes at a time when casting ratios and character assignments are being scrutinized by more critical reviewers, and as a result, not just casting, but character roles and treatment are being carefully watched for signs of wokeness. People see the Mariner/Boimler relationship, an 'amazing dark-skinned female just outclassing the pathetic white male at every punchline', as an example of said wokeness... And thus stop viewing the interaction jokes as jokes and more as insults. It's hard to laugh when you think you're being passive-aggressively insulted by the thing you love, and the people who make it. And if it didn't look like the roles were selected based on the Wokeness Formula, maybe the Capable-slacker/incapable-tryhard setup would be forgiven and properly enjoyed.
Then of course, there's the premise itself. There are people who think it is a betrayal of Star Trek's entire message to conceptualize that there's a contingent of a ship's crew, or even Starfleet as a whole, that are essentially an under-class. STLD brings in the concept of 'Enlisted' and all the lack of rank and privilege that implies. Something that taints the vision many have of the Federation having this utopian, idealistic view. "Welcome to Starfleet! The Best of the Best!" ... "Move along Lower Decks." It's supposed to be a little satire dark humor pointing out the unspoken enlisted side of Trek, the many scene extras running a ship. But people will froth at the mouth to have non-idealistic things pointed out to them in their idealistic setting. I'm sure there are enlisted equivalent positions on ships, it's just that satire requires such positions to be denigrated a bit more than would be appropriate.
Personally, I find the humor hit and miss, as with most humor. Mariner gets away with a bit too much, so she rubs that sue feel somewhat, but it's juxtaposed by getting tossed in the brig by her own mother, which isn't funny in itself, but in later scenes where it's not just something that was said before a short time skip... There she is, in the brig, having a pow-wow with her friends through a forcefield... An episode later: "Hah! She's _STILL_ in the brig!"

TOS was good in season 2.

      VOY - season 3-6

Depicting Armus being in a trench or river is not consistent with the TNG episode. There was an actual trench on the TNG set used to do the practical effects, but the intent seen in animation in a few shots of "Skin of Evil" was to imagine Armus as a shape-changing form moving on flat ground, not unlike the T-1000 a few years later in Terminator 2.

"Lower Decks" was done much funnier 20 years ago with the animated web series "Starship Regulars" which had the voice talent of non other than Michael Dorn, among others.
