A guide to using the auto throttle in the MSFS F-18 ---- Channel Discord: / discord ---- Donators: ANDREI DULCU Cobalt Skies / MattDesigns Layla Rensemiddel
Unfortunately going into the 3rd person view is no option for me because i have deactivated all these artificial aids. Hope Asobo implements more missing features to the plane. But what i like about the F18 is that it works with YourControls and that i can fly around with friends who have the MSFS but dont know as much about aviation and the different planes as i do, so we can fly around watch the landscape and i can tell them a bit about the planes.
@@TiJayFLY it doesn't need a desired speed and altitude. It needs to do what the real plane does which is hold your current speed when you engage the auto-throttle. They just shoehorned a speed hold into the F-18 which is not accurate to the real thing.
You have a good grasp of Hornet. I have the WinWing F/A 18 Hotas and would love to know the binding keys you use for Afterburner, AP and Auto-throttle, and any others you have discovered for the hornet. Thanks for the tutorials. Thumbs up!
Afterburner shift+f4 (as it traditionally was in FS2004/FSX), AP disengage is the red disengage switch on my Airbus stick. AT disengage is odd because the F18 doesn’t use the default “disengage AT” binding, it uses “autopilot airspeed hold off” so I’ve currently got it mapped to some random key combination 😆 Increase and decrease desired altitude while in BALT mode are Ctrl+PgUp/Dn. Increase and decrease desired airspeed are mapped to buttons on the joystick “pedestal”. Tail hook binding should exist, I think it’s set to T for me but haven’t tried it on the F-18 yet.
Great Tutorial! 🙂 I've just tried to activate autothrottle both from my keyboard and from the Thustmaster TCA Quadrant Boeing which works with any airliners. I succeeded to set the desired speed, but no effect at all when I activate the autothrottle?
Any chance you know how to do this with the xbox, and/or not with the hot keys to adjust the airspeed (such as where is the switch in the cockpit) Thanks, and awesome video
No cockpit switch for speed currently, which is the only reason I use hotkeys. Xbox works just the same AFAIK, you can configure control assignments right?
IIRC as far as carrier functionality goes, it has a tail hook already - I wouldn’t expect much to change apart from an “official” carrier add on. You’ll probably still be able to nosedive the deck at 250kts.
@@TiJayFLY Indeed, though many would find an auto throttle a great aid to maintaining the correct air speed on approach to the carrier (as in real life), but it needs to be able to be set at the correct air speed from within the VC. With this correct one's focus can be on the landing sight, AOA indicator and lineup.
Thanks :) Sorry - YT only just alerted me to this comment. Glad you found it - it has alt & heading hold modes, and you can adjust desired alt by using Ctrl+PgUp/Dn when in BALT mode. RALT doesn't work right now. Check out my full F18 tutorial also :)
Assign a hot key to Autopilot Airspeed Hold and try that way. Also, it will always engage at the previously selected speed, not your current speed - so it’s possibly working and just needs the speed selection changing (again, you can assign hot keys for this and see selected speed on the sim UI)
@@TiJayFLY Thank you so much! I've spent a week trying every different key binding imaginable & couldn't get it working. Just set that one & it worked flawlessly the first time. You're a life saver!
Yeah it’s an issue that lots of people have reported. I think it’s something to do with the MSFS flight assistant for users without hardware throttles.
@@TiJayFLY I see, weird though since I have a Honeycomb Alpha/Bravo setup. It's annoying that every plane I have loaded into for the first time (including different liveries) has turned those assists back on. Only for that first load of that particular config, changing to another config and it remembers to leave it all off. it has caught me out multiple times so far.
@@shinkicker404 I made an assumption about setup as I didn’t have this issue with my Airbus stick - but this is most likely because I went through and turned the assists off straight after updating, and before flying :) I would say these assists are on by default for everyone in SU7 then!

On PC just do it: ctrl + shift + ins (up) ctrl + shift + del (down)
Thank u dude

I agree it needs at least desired speed and desired alt on the HUD/PFD.

It’s a separate keybind in this. Not sure which one, which is why I click the physical control in the airplane

I hope Asobo improve this functionality for the Maverick addon... it will really aid carrier landings

👍
This is brilliant. How do you do altitude and heading ?
It's on the UFC. Press AP then BALT would be Baro hold RALT radaer etc
@@JerDog1984 I also found how to add it as a hot key which is so useful

@@TiJayFLY legend
My autothrottle just flickers on/off really fast so i cabt turn it off really... Any idea why?
Can’t turn it off? That’s an odd one. If you can’t turn it on, it’ll be your hardware throttle overriding it…
Is there a way to adjust AT airspeed manually?
As I did in the tutorial - assign hot keys to increase and decrease. No physical buttons in the aircraft right now.
Can u do a video on how to use auto throttle on the f-16
Don’t have the f-16 but will do if I pick it up
How to bind throttle axis with hotas warthog throttle ?
Should be the same as any other throttle in any other plane? Assign it in the sim controls menu
yes please , can you do carrier take off and landing please
When the carrier patch releases 👍
@@TiJayFLY how about tips and trick of the F-18 maybe
@@bstadele there will be more f-18 content for sure
How do you fly Mach 3 the f18 has changed since several updates
Exactly the same, just like the real thing - apply full throttle + afterburner. I don’t think you’ll hit Mach 3 though.
thanks didnt see that button. why doesnt it let me hot key activate but lets me deactivate it ?
Alt+R should activate. It's the default for "autopilot airspeed hold".
@@TiJayFLY thanks im on xbox. with hotas one.
When I push the BALT button it directly goes back to FPAH
Could be a noisy control input - as soon as you make an input it will return to FPAH. Check your controller dead zones

It works... like 10% of the time.

On Xbox, how??!?! Just how?!?! You never told how to set speed!
Controls menu will list the hot keys mentioned
All these key assignments spoil it for me.
I agree, Asobo need to implement more actual aircraft functionality instead of relying on hotkeys.
