  • Hi guys! I believe one of my greatest strengths in table tennis is my backhand loop against backspin. Here, I give some basic tips of what helped me the most - let me know if you guys want a more in-depth version!

Lily, I'm glad you finally have a channel. You are the best female TT player in the US and therefore should be able to give us all some great tips. I've always been impressed by your serve. Same motion every time but so many variations on it and can be very deceptive. Could you please give a tutorial on how you do it? Thanks

Hey Lily, thanks for the video! I'd like a more in-depth version if possible. Also, I think your slo-mo could be slower/the frames could be smoother. Also go bears!

Intimidating power from such a relatively small frame... thanks for letting everyone know just how this is possible... as for myself, I am still intimidated by the 8 year old (or so) dynamo that faced me in a BATTF team league match a few years back (I recall Natalie was one of your teammates but I forget the other one). Your coaches were also intimidating (WCTTA)... 👍🏓😢😇😎

It's almost as if you just learned the word ''intimidate'' and now you're using it whenever

Well put, and great form, Lily.
So do you try to aim more for the left side of the ball when doing this shot or just go from down to up?
I've been having good success with this stroke lately, but I still break down when they're overloaded with backspin. Almost like i know I'll screw it up so I just baby the shot, which doesn't work. Definitely need a little aggression to counter the backspin.
I need to work the squat, and elbow move, into my routine. I think the elbow snap will give that extra oomph needed to clear the net.
    Thanks for the tip.

Did anyone notice she has an unusual forehand grip. Her fingers do not wrap around the blades handle when doing this technique. Is she using more pressure on the thumb on the backhand side or something to assist the loop. The shot she is demonstrating is not a Backhand Loop but a Backhand Drive.

Look closely at her legs - Notice she does not actually transfer her weight from left to right very much.

Lily you would become an even better player by putting heavier topspin on the ball and not so much trying to drive the ball. The slower heavier spin loops are the most dangerous weapon available with the newer ball. Watch the confusion on all the robotic players of today when you give them the slow heavy spin ball. Their brains have been geared to muscle memory for fast fast rallies. When you break their rhythm they are all lost at sea. Listen to my words and your game will go through the roof and it goes like this.( Stop trying to beat them and let them beat themselves) Too many players I have tried to teach this won't embrace it for fear of losing, sad but true.
