    This is the way I made Kahlua for a long time. Then, I lost the recipe. Now, I have no worries, your video is EXACTLY what I was looking for. The only different thing I do is add all of the Kahlua to a large glass jar and then add the beans and store. Thank you for posting.

    I would change only one thing and that is I would cool my water/sugar/coffee solution before adding the vodka. The heat can cause the alcohol to evaporate.

    Would it be better to let the coffee mixer cool to room temp before for adding the vodka to avoid possible evaporation of alcohol?

      Alcohol boils at 172 degrees Fahrenheit. If you are frugal like I am you wait for the mix to cool. With that being said, it’s easy to be a critic. I thank you for the time and effort you spent on making your videos and sharing your recipes with everyone.

      The coffee mixer isn't hot enough to really make a difference. I've been making this for years! lol. Everyone loves it including my Mom! lol. Sometimes I use flavored vodka ...it adds a new element of flavor and people really like it! But I don't add the vodka until the very end! I let the pot cool for a bit then add it! I also use a combo of sugar and corn syrup. I get the Gordon Food Service corn syrup because it has an almost buttery flavor to it.

    So far I've watched this video only 3 times, about to start the 4th. I've been watching "how to" Kahlua recipes all day since my best friend Ginny said that's what she likes after I told her I had started making homemade vanilla extract (3 kinds: vodka, bourbon and spiced rum). Anywho, I'm going back to the store tomorrow to get what I need for this but I think I am gonna try it with dark rum instead of vodka just because I see a lot more videos using that instead. But, I love your video. Very informative and well shot. I have already subscribed so I can't wait to see wait else you have up your sleeve. Thank you!! Ron, from SE Georgia

      you can use "Madagascar Vanilla Bean Paste". Very concentrated. Use 1 tsp, taste, then correct.

    • @4UnlimitedBEing
      @4UnlimitedBEing 4 года назад

      Donna Burbo Yes, you most definitely can use vanilla extract, as that is exactly what you are *making* by putting vanilla beans in alcohol and letting it steep/infuse! *facepalm 😑
      Amount? To your flavor preference. This is a large batch, so if you follow the proportions given in the video, I'd guess at least a tablespoon of extract. Add some (maybe 1 tsp, or a half Tbsp), taste mixture, add more if desired, taste again. The flavor might be slightly richer with whole bean infusion, but seriously, just use extract if you don't want to wait a month or more. It will taste just as good and is much less expensive than buying whole vanilla beans! (Or vanilla paste.) 😌

      Whether you make it with rum or vodka make sure it's more than 100 proof. I make it with Cruzan 151 proof because Bacardi quit making 151 proof. As far as vodka is concerned, I wouldn't recommend it for making Kahlua. It's fine if you're making Cafe Rica. In that case I would recommend Smirnoff blue label 100 proof.

     @Cheryl K - Per the question below regarding whether you had used a fifth vs a liter, & your answer of "The bottle of vodka I used is 1 Liter, 1 bottle of Vodka..." Thank you, that was my question as well! Just confirming for my future reference: the written recipe above calls for 1 Liter, & based on your answer, that is the correct amount, right?
    Also, regarding some folks commenting that rum should be used...it doesn't matter if some other recipes stipulate rum... this is a coffee liqueur & you have accomplished an end product that includes coffee flavor, alcohol content, sweetening, & from what I can tell, incredible taste! (Looking forward to having an opportunity to do my own taste test soon!). Plus, this recipe is a long-time family tradition for your family who clearly finds it fabulous, which makes me want to try it exactly according to your recipe! Thanks so much for sharing it! :)
