- DIY ROUTER TABLE
I made this bench top router table with wood scraps and pieces I had laying around. This could easily be turned into a standalone router table or as some call it a router station. The plywood was a bit wavy so I used epoxy glaze coat to self level the top in two applications. This seems to have worked really well for me. This is my first router table build and was a lot of fun! My overall cost was about $100. Honestly the base plate was most of that. I personally wanted a base plate for for two reasons. One I can change the hole size with inserts and two it has a spot for a starting pin.

Mitch Deitrich very good videos but I would like watch in spanish please
Well I want it in Swahili so how bout that? Lol
COPE Farms hakuna Matata
+COPE Farms yes you look like that! lol
How to make cornice
I bought this for my friend for his birthday as we just moved into a new house and he finally has room for a workshop. The bench was very easy to set up ruclips.net/user/postUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh They center support is a little difficult to snap in and out of place at first but at least then we know the bench is secure. It was a pleasant surprise when we saw it came with clamps. I apparently missed that in the description. My friend loves the versatility of the bench. Great starter bench for his workshop and easily transportable all over our property. I wish the bench was a little taller but the other features of the bench more than make up for that.
great idea about the stop start button
A year later, how has the epoxy resin held up?
woww!!! The best router table that I saw on the tube!!!!! 👏👏👏👏👏

soo, did any of you guys give away money for this?
I've never heard of a woodworker being called a stallion. Are you into horses? BTW I will be making this too, as like all the other comments, this video is just what folks need to get inspiration to build. This same setup purchased retail is $499, and not as sturdy. You want "sturdy" when using a tool like this. So much safer and the cuts are way way (did I say way?) more accurate. Thanks for having the talent and time and energy for making this video. Fish on!
Best big clamp i've ever seen O_O
lol thanks!
The only question I have is...Why did you get any thumbs down? Great job!
Norm Dryden hater!
"Now I need a big clamp" *BOOOOM!!!*
"That oughta work "
Very cool video and very nice router table. Thank you a lot.
Tools required to make router table: $20,000
Router table: $200
Nevertheless, awesome craftsmanship LOL
graham wellington and a jointer
Truthfully you could do this with a circular saw and drill.
graham wellington Don’t forget the KREG JIG $139 @ HOME DEPOT
@@alcantrell5340 $29 for a Kreg jig set.
@@lewisr993
People could do it completely by hand if they wanted to with just $50 worth of cheap tools.
Mitch awesome video. A router table is a major need in my shop. I would appreciate it if you'd check out my channel as well!!
Thanks! will do! :)
This is super cool, but it's also convinced me just to spend $99 on a router table ;-) It's beautiful, and really cool, but it certainly won't save me any money. (I'm guessing you have way more than $100 of materials in that table, plus the hours/days it took to make it.)
Not to mention all of the great shop tools needed for fabrication!
I think I could make this if only I had every electric / pneumatic /gas tool known to man..... my tool box consists of hammer, screwdriver, pencil, dried up glue, three rusty nails and a screw that doesn't fit my screwdriver.
Start with another tool
This is one of the most incredible projects I've seen on any RUclips channel regarding woodworking. You obviously know a great deal and I look forward to following your videos. Killer job!
I just need to buy a couple of thousand dollars of tools to make a table... eek
That “electrical thing” is called a Romex Connector.
Great job Mitch! Entertaining episode.......maybe you should do a video teaching other RUclipsr's how to develope a personality. Very watchable😀
Brian Webb you either have personality or you don’t. It’s really not a learnable trait
Hey, man, nice build. So about those toilet bolts: were they - wait for it... wait for it - FLUSH MOUNTED? Bahaha... sometimes I crack myself up... Anyway, I like it. Some good info in it. One thing I'll remember is that if I laminate ply that size, I should do it on the table saw to keep everything flat.
lol Thanks!
What a cool, laid back and VERY capable craftsman! Cool project. All the best, Rob
WIth all this work might as well buy one. LOL. Very talented workmanship
-Me watching this video, "Oooh! I have those tools, I can actually build this table!"
best tutorial ever, different set up than others for the table and well explained to detail, thank you very much!!
Thanks! I like to hear stuff like this!
seriously, one of the best tutorials. very inspiring.
IrishTrekker
yeah......really that was something.....thanx for sharing your very nice project
Please wear ear defenders! Cumulative damage does not appear until it’s too late!
My God! Excellent work! 😊 The way you show us how to make, makes all the difference! Congratulations my friend! Here in Brazil, we learn a lot with your videos 👍!
+erastomagno well thank you!!
It's good that the spokesperson for Brazil came in person to let us know how Brazil feel about this channel.
Nice build bro, but this is really a DIWAK (do it with a kit) rather than a DYI!
that looks awesome. I'm getting more into wood working and need to make some tools. Its great that you put links to everything you used in the description
Links are nice and helpful hope they help a bit. Thanks man!
Pocas ganas de terminar
The Handyman , my favorite youtubber responds, awesome. im building this, minus the aluminum T tracks. im changing a few things but a great design. also adding a second swapable plate to mount my jigsaw. wondered where you got the idea for you sweet rig man.
De lo mejor una mesa Muy práctica y funcional, felicidades hermoso trabajo, saludos cordiales dé Cancún Quintana Roo México 🇲🇽 bendiciones.
I am in the process of making one very similar to yours. Your tutorial and design was a huge inspiration for my build. Instead of plywood, I took 2x4s and cut them to length, rip them in half, jointed them using a table saw big i made, glued and clamped them together, and then planed them using my router-sled jig I made. Thank you for the video. It's a very awesome build!!
+Ben C Ben that's so cool to hear!!
Finally the best video I've found all day in how how make a router table. I love the plexi glass addition. That was a nice touch. Great job man! And thanks.
My husband used these plans from stodoys and he's very satisfied.
why pay when these guys/gals give you plans for free. And best of all they didn't steal them.
1:29 15 inches or 18-inch clamp?
Awesome job, man. Especially loved that large clamp.😂 Also love that trick with using the impact driver to install those T-nuts. Definitely gonna use that.👍🏾😊
Doesn't need to be accurate ,no one's ever going to see it ...1.5m views later
Mitch your attention to detail is impeccable
+Jon Dunn thank you Jon!
Just top notch work man. Wow, beautiful. TY for posting.
Mitch, you are v talented guy....great job ....beaut table......I enjoyed everything about the vid. Loved the epoxy top, and the big 'clamp'...v funny😁.
Thx for making vid...
When I saw the project start off with just some 2x4’s, I was kind of disappointed. But as I kept watching, I realized how much of a jerk I was for being quick to judge lol. Once I saw the epoxy, then the wood nuts I realized this guy was legit. Nice bench man, totally impressed!
I think this turned out great. A lot nicer and more sturdy than I expected. Thanks for sharing.
+Angie Overton thanks! :)
Zu
You could have invested it with the meekness ...
Tool Drawer,... Bits, and Accessories...
I am guessing STILES and SLIDES are yer "thing".
great video tutorial, not too serious, love the amp um clamp, I have seen a couple of builds so far, yours I like most, think I might just do it, cheers Mitch
+Cal Travels Awesome thanks!
¡¡¡Excelente!!! Te robo la construcción de la parte superior y los accesorios. Muchas gracias
this is actually one of my favorite builds on youtube...
How did that epoxy work out for you? Did it level it out and does it still hold well? And what kind/brand epoxy did you use? Two componente stuff or..?
My workshop also has dj speakers like yours but i dont know why people see it wierdly
Awesome!! That way the music can be louder then the tools 😎
@@MitchellDeitrich Any self-respecting woodworker needs some loud music to overpower the sound of tools. :-) That is a super neat table you made there, definitely gave me some ideas to work with, as i need a router-table to get some jobs done.
Es gute ide aber es gibt Leichte wege einer fräse tsich zu bauen.
Trotzdem zu beschäftiegung von langweiler so ist zeit zu betriben ist gut.
Best to wear a P100 half-mask respirator to keep the fine wood, etc. dust out of your lungs. I think it causes scarring of the lung tissue? 3M, AOSafety, etc. make them.
Respirator $20..40 vs. health problems $$$$$. You choose.
"Boom...shiny" Freakin awesome!
I prefer t-track over mitre as well because of the jig potential, your first inserts are actually t-nuts but close enough and they do insert, just felt like nit picking. Think I'll make a foot switch for the power and keep my hands free just in case something horrific happens and I need both hands to survive it. Well thanks, the router I wanted went on sale at 63% off so I finally have one and need to build a table, so thanks for the video! The measurement photo on Drive was a nice touch.
A quality build for sure... nice job.
This vid was well worth watching. Thanks for valuing the viewer's time while planning your edits. Short and sweet takes way longer to produce than long and boring, and I appreciate your investment of time and effort.
One of the best tutorials I've ever seen !!! Thx a lot for sharing it ...
Well thanks! I am still a bit new at how to's but I appreciate it.
As soon as I find all those parts somewhere in the Europe on some human, acceptable prices, I am on it ... For now, I have a router, plywood, table saw and plenty of will ... hahaha
yeah i know what you mean. I have been flipping the router over and using a ratchet strap to the table for too long!
Yep, well done. I appreciate how you've included dimensions and detailed explanations throughout the vid, and you got the details of wiring all correct.
What a perfect tutorial, Almost done but i f***ed up the top layer with the bandgrinder 😣
+Ramon ennik oh man sorry to hear that. If you used epoxy it should self level. And we'll preserve the mess up forever.... I hope it's fixable for you!
You stallion! Looks awesome. Going to be one of my weekend projects in a week or two.
Awesome glad to hear it! :)
Hi Mitch just subscribed watched a few of your videos ,lot to go ,but hope to catch up soon .As a newbie I'm quite happy to go through all your video's, as I like a few things you did and I hope you don't mind I'll copy.hope that's ok with you ,cheers in advance Billjay. Scotland.
Very nice build☝
Damn, I'd never seen that epoxy self-leveling trick. That's great. I'm not sure I fully understand how it works but I will be giving it some googles
My friend, you have done a very nice job, well done, but difficult parts for us who are amateurs, how can we do this? I am from Greece, Florina, Western Macedonia🇬🇷👍👌
Somehow I wasn't Sub'd. Thanks YT. Fixed that! Sweet table!
ReaperWoodworks sweet! thanks man :)
Great vid and another positive for some creativity which its all about.. ingenuity and creativity.. especially with this Covid 19 trauma it's a great way to stay positive and stop being bored by being productive.. I've converted an old steel box frame computer desk to a router/work bench with removable router assembly which can be swapped out for the work bench with adjustable vice and and ! Took me a while but as said.. well worth it. Most of the bits you need extra are available online and timber merchants can deliver - try using locals as it helps them out financially even if its a few bucks more?! Stay safe whoever, wherever you are ! 👀👍
Brilliant, its inspired me to make my own
Great work & awesome finish..
I wonder why only 2.2k subscribers? Keep going
I know this video is 5 years old. But would you have the dimensions for the legs support?
The 2X4s you cut in half. The Length and the angle.
Nice build. Looks great, only improvement would be a router lift.
Dude, you built a premium router table! Bar none!! The top the tracks...and fence..just a bunch of features. Have you ever seen my router table, lol/...
lol yeah I think I have seen yours in use in a couple videos. Thanks for the support Eloy.
With all the work you put into this project, I would have not sprayed that weird fade paint on the top. Maybe made a base a stained hunter green and stained the whole top jet black and poured it with epoxy. That would have made all your hard work look super sharp and almost store-bought. Until people saw that beautiful glossy black wood grain through the epoxy. But that's me, I'm kinda anal like that about details. Very nice build :)
my neighbors used to laugh at my "clamps" when I glued up two panels, anything from exercise weights, 50 lbs bag of dog food, cement blocks, hey what ever gets the job done. I am going to use your basic table design for a router table and and a 60 year old bandsaw I'm restoring
Excellent job I love the details you added to it. You got a new subs keep up the great vids
awsome router table WHAT IS THE SUPERB MUSIC???
Brilliant craftsmanship and clarity of directions. Only drawback.. it doesn’t look like you’re wearing any hearing protection when running a table saw, router, angle grinder, etc. In a closed garage...?
Hi lovely build but can you demonstrate the use of the t tracks you installed as I'm just getting into woodworking. Thank you. Mark
Looks great. I bought one for 30$ like new. My time is valuable. But great idea. Props to you.
Howdy Mitch! How is your router table holding up? Looks really nice.
Really nice job! Have you thought about a lift mechanism? Please go ahead and make the video when you do, and don't use one of those expensive per-fabricated lifters: we're on a tight budget here!
Great job.. but a little more difficult if, like me, you don't have thousands of dollars worth of equipment to make it with.... like, I have to make the desks, workbenches and other bits so that I can then make a router table...ermm.. but then, I've already made one!
Great table, looks better than a lot of commercial ones I’ve seen.
Subscribed!
You never showed it working it looks awkward to clamp down you should have a 3/2 at the front & and the back for
The clamps 😮
Best I have seen.
Need your help...Can I use epoxy for my uneven table saw? Will it be tough enough? Thanks
Commerical router slide is expensive ~US$400. It's a nice router table top.
Congratulations very good work, very profesional, i admire you people from USA, due to wood carpentry
sr. mitch es un gran video sobre la fabricacion de la mesa para router, me puede decir por favor que material uso para el acabado de bancada y porque le aplica fuego, gracias por su atencion, saludos, desde huatabampo, sonora mexico felicitaciones
Swaeet looking table, Mitch. Way to go.!
Bob man... Thanks!
Very good router table, which I will try to copy. However, I am not sure how you manage to adjust the depth of cut (this could of course read height of cut)? Many thanks,
That's a very well thought out bench. I wish it was collapsible for storage. That would make it an 11 out of 10.
by the way i'm from the Philippines sir,and also a very big fan of woodworkers like you,i do a little woodworking of my own sir.
The table looks great. However, after spending all the money buying the tools, I will pay 50 dollars for a nice router table.
i really like the table .... FYI you can turn the Romex clamp around to save yourself from making such a large hole
Building a router table now and stole your angled legs design. So far it looks great and very sturdy. Just had a question. I was thinking of adding 2 metal dowels with a block of wood attached at the end that can be pulled out from the side to help support longer work pieces. Just wondering if there is a reason I haven't seen anyone do that with a router table build.
Sir, can you please tell how the plexiglass provide safety. I am not into wood working and a learner. Thanks!
Awesome tutorials, thanks for video.. helpfully for me
Nice one! How to you stop the bench from walking when you push wood across it? Very good video. Thanks!
Great DIY video! Which double stick tape do you find works best?
awesome job. do you have any tips on routing out cabinet door faces and replaceing with plexiglass/ frosted glass?
I really appreciate the links and the link to the demotions. Looks like a great build and I am going to use most of what you have done for mint. Thanks
Why didn't you just make the outlet underneath switched and plug both your router and vac into it instead of ruining your cord?
Nice, I could actually afford to build this one and it won't take forever. Some of the other router tables I have seen are way too complicated and/or have very expensive parts.
Bad ass table but for the money you spent on that I would of just bought a router table
I am planning on building this and I am new to woodworking. Can you show us how you attached the router, how you adjust the router heights and change bits. Thank you
So you earned a new subscriber, one because my fiancé shares your last name but here is spelt Dietrich... 2nd because of your attention to detail.
but I have a Newbie question for you. I know the industrial outlet is hooked up to the switch but is the outlet hooked up to a wall outlet?
I'm surprised you didn't show adjusting height of blade
