- Today we take quick look inside the 1/200 scale USS Enterprise box.
THIS IS NOT A TUTORIAL! It is more of a daily personal diary, or perhaps a vlog, centered around the building of plastic model ships. Don’t be surprised when I unexpectedly, but usually just momentarily, get into something completely unrelated. I was big into building models years ago. Apparently I’m trying to bring back “the good old days” by building plastic model ships. Feel free to learn from my mistakes while I muddle through this.
Hi Ron, unboxing new model. Very exciting!
The USS Enterprise looks amazing!
That Enterprise is a beauty, Ron. Should be a lot of fun putting that together.
🤞👍
Ron looks like a really nice kit you have there with the Enterprise. I look forward to a more in depth look thru it. See you tomorrow. 😊
Hey Ron ,great show tonight, the Enterprise looks really good, it's going to be a nice build, thanks for the look , I'll see you tomorrow.👍👍👍👍
Good morning Ron.
Great show today. The Enterprise looks awesome will be a great build can't wait for that. Subs also looking great. Catch you tomorrow take care regards Rod. 🎉🎉🎉
Hi Ron, the Calypso pictures I sent to you recently I painted all by hand - even the hull which was ABS. I used Vallejo Model Colour paints, thinned with their thinner, no levelling products. It didn’t leave any brush marks at all. As for the brush I just used a half inch flat brush when painting the hull. However, this paint tends to chip easy so for the hull I just used a matt varnish from a spray can to prevent chipping and scratching.
Some people will always complain. Do as you see fit, I’ll watch, and continue enjoying your hobby.
I’ve been seeing some of your past videos, to your huge clock build. You’re such an interesting person and a natural entertainer!
Nice peek at the Enterprise Ron. It looks very cool and something different again. Great video today. Take care n see you tomorrow.
Good episode, Ron. The Enterprise looks good, thanks for sharing... looking forward to the sprue check. Have a great evening and I will see you next time!
It’s just like Christmas all over again! Thanks for giving us a tantalising peak inside the box Ron. All the best from (comparatively speaking) warm and balmy UK, just 2C today… positively tropical!
Gosh! You timed your trip to the hobby store perfectly
😊👍
Ron, great video and your that US Enterprise kit will look fantastic and will be nice build. You will need more paint for the hull when hand painting I’m thinking? Well look forward to your review Ron. Happy everything. 😊
Hi Ron, great show today. The Enterprise is quite a kit. Im sure you will have many hours of fun building it. Ive seen camel hairbrushes up to 2 inches wide. I wouldnt limit the brush size you use to what will fit in a Tamiya jar. No reason you can't transfer the paint to a larger bottle. Many years ago, car manufacturers brush painted their car bodies. Spray technology wasn't around in the early 1900's. Thanks for sharing. Have a great day. Jeff
Enjoy the Enterprise, she looks like she is right at home.
Hey Ron, I believe you will change your mind on brush painting after you start, If you start that is. Looking forward to your next build after you finish this one. Take Care and be Well
When the paint is thinned properly, has a levelling additive like a retarder and in the correct environment it is absolutely possible to achieve a superior finish than an airbrush.
Hi Ron, please don't think of brush painting the whole ship. This would be a retrospective step. You now have four examples of sprayed model ships that you look daily and think they look great, so you just can't stop now.
From years of building models, I understand that spray painting all those individual parts can is a time-consuming pain.
However, the finished product will remain a mark of your great model building abilities.
I'm not sure what types sizes of air brush you have, but for larger areas, you might benefit from a greater capacity jet/needle set, either for your existing gun, or maybe you might concided investing in a new air brush for the next project.
Aircraft carries don't have much in the way of super structure called the Island just have a lot of flat painted deck areas.
But all will look much more interesting if sprayed. Best regards, Dave Porter London
for the Diving planes - seems like if you did the FAR (port) side first - it would be easier to see through the clear plastic to insert the near side one into the slot. Just a thought after the fact....
The wire is degaussing cable which is fitted around the hull Ron
Use flat brushes with well thinned paint on large surfaces. Be prepared to do 2 or even 3 very thin coats and you can get a good finish. Good luck.
That brass wire is probably the catapult cable for takeoff.
Hi Ron,
Let's go back to your comment about painting with a brush.
It might be an idea to first buy a small model and then paint it completely with a brush to see if the end result is good enough.
Greetings from Holland
Hay ron keep in mind the cv 6 carried more Planes then any other carrier. I am willing to bet a lot of the decals are for the Planes. IMO 10 sheets of TINY PE is a lpt to me. Ha. Guess we will find out about the pe and decals later
Those that don't have an airbrush use rattle cans! I was never able to get a good finish with a brush but that doesn't mean you can't.
"I haven't been a 120lbs since I was 8 years old." 🤣😁 See ya. JimE
Hey Ron good show. If you put all those small parts on the exterior hull won't it make it more difficult to install the modules in the port side?
I live in Northern California. Temperature hovers at 50-65 degrees Fahrenheit. No snow and blue skies!!! Who lives in a freezer????
That wire gets wrapped around the hull , don’t quote me but I think it’s something to do with sea mines , like I said don’t quote me 😂
Hi Ron, brush why not! Just remember to add some paint retardant, brings me back to the old ways😊😊😊😊lol remember painting masking tape black 😮to make an easy boot line ! See you tomorrow
I'm curious what those clear hoses are to the left of you door. What are they used for?
I guess I should be taking that hose back down into my workshop. About two years ago I had a little scooter and the gas tank was quite low. I found that if I set my gas can up on top of my delivery box I could siphon the gas out of the gas can down into my little scooter. Now with the Honda Rebel, it has a gas tank that is a lot higher and syphon doesn't work anymore. I guess I just never got the hose back to where it should be. my nice neat house from a few years ago is slowly turning into a junkie workshop! Shame on me! Thanks for asking however. 👍
@roncalverley I see! Neat!
That flight deck is going to look quite large as you’re staring down it with your brush in hand.
Hi Ron Its Wolfgang from Germany please translate
Es gibt die Seite Midwest Modell Shop dor werde die Bauabschnitte für den Rumpf bis zum Unterdeck der Enterprise gezeigt !g
Interessant war für mich das erstellen der Rumpfstruktur beim lackieren . Bye from Germany
Hi Ron, what! no spraying on the Enterprise? that’s it UNSUBSCRIBE 🤣 cya Tomorrow.
