I'm the Boy from VA, the one you heard about , them Geogia boys go hide in the Kitchen when I bring the Cast Iron Calderon out ! 😁 First off ...Brunswick Stew has to be cooked outside over open flame by Hickory & Oak wood. The meat ingredients are as follows : Squirrel, Rabit, ground venison mixed with pork fat, & Chicken. I grew up in the foot hills of VA where this was a family staple & also an excuse for all of the men in the family to stand outside by an open fire in 30° temps and drink Moonshine all night 😉
Germans settled in Brunswick County Virginia before Brunswick Georgia was even thought of. This is one of the best stews on the planet, both styles are very similar and awesome. :)
Brunswick County VA was established in 1720. Brunswick GA was recognized as a city in 1771. A margin of 50 years difference. Both Virginia and Georgia had German settlers, Georgia has an entire old German town called Helen, GA. My point? It could be that both locations had settlers that gave birth to Brunswick stew simultaneously, nearly decades in proximity from eachother, because both had settlers that brought dishes from Europe to both area.
I'm liking and subscribing because "Mengwasser" is a German name I don't know the meaning of. Wasser is water I'm assuming? I have been watching Brunswick Stew podcasts all afternoon to get ready to make a pot and thank you for this one and the research on the origin of the dish. The best German name before this one I have found is "Hasenjager" meaning rabbit hunter.
Ashley, you do a fantastic video. Next time I visit your channel I want to see a million subscribers. That stew looks great! How I would love to down a huge bowl right about now.
@@Junebug60 I agree about Hickory House, seems like we could bribe an employee, you think $500 would be enough to entice them to betray their oath for the greater good of stew lovers mankind ?
Is this the same place where the two guys were 2nd place and where you cooked the stew with the chef, I am confused as the guys said they didn't put beans or vegetables in their Brunswick Stew. The stew you made was somewhat traditional Brunswick Stew and had vegetables in it like it should, the guys who owned the BBQ place should name their stew something else and I would like to take them on the offer of 5000 dollars. Traditional Brunswick Stew is not made with smoked meat, look at the time when people started making it, no refrigeraton, no BBQ sauce, these guys have never tasted Brunswick Stew or they would know better.
Brunswick stew is from Brunswick Virginia. I don't care what anyone says. Is a derivative of chicken muddle and originally had squirle meat in it also. Debate me. I dare you.
It's middle of Canadian winter, but watching this literally made me feel overwhelmed by humid heat.
How do you only have 75 subscribers ? Seems like you would have millions . :)
I heard the first made Brunswick stew used rabbit and squirrel .
Mainly squirrel. Witch would back up Virginia's claim.
Hogs head
My great grandma's recipe called for 12 squirrels two chickens in a 30 quart pot lawrenceville va.
Your right. Squirrel was the meat in the stew

Hey there ran across your page. Can't help but wonder if we are related. My Dad is Leo Mengwasser out of Rich Fountain Missouri
Yes, I know what you are talking about, BURGOO!!! Right!!!
In four words: Yummy!
If your gonna argue about where Brunswick came from you've got a little too much time on your hands.
Lost me at Lima beans......
Wait - did you say "I-98"? Ummmmm . . . . no. I-95.
That pot of stew was almost as big as you were.
This looks great, however I’m thankful Old Hickory House in Atlanta doesn’t put Lima beans, potatoes or peas in their Brunswick stew .

Mrs Fearnows is the best!

Virginia and Georgia Brunswick Stews are two completely different animals. My Virginia Grandma told me hers was real, so I've got to believe her!
Your grandma also said she was George Washington's secret lover...
No Lima Beans in Brunswick Stew!

Look put the damn beans in the damn shit
Wrong !
funny thing lot of people claim to be the original brunswisk in all states lolol i am sure no one knows for sure.
Naw its not funny,,Ha-ha,, she is so cute,, & funny kodi
BBQ was a later, though not necessarily bad, adaptation. And Georgia ain't it, baby! Good video, though!
