Jack does have a nice variety of frames. Flight skills just take stick time imho. I believe anyone can do what they desire. If the desire leads to getting on the sticks :)
The HDZero nano lite is 1-3s so should be okay with either 5v or vbat. I still do a cap to be safe. But yeah I think walksnail has a 5v limit. And glad to hear 5v has been providing enough amps on the ones you’ve tried. I recall on JB’s video on the walksnail 1s vtx he was concerned and went with vbat. Great video Nick!
I really don't know what its called. I thinking of it as an inverted turn, sometimes I do what we see other times I nose around to follow the flight path rather than reversing which is what I did in this video.
Nice review Nick and nice quad! I have Hdzero quads in 1s, 3s, 4s, and 6s, but I have not done one this small yet in 2s. It looks nice and zippy and perfect for my yard!
For those looking to order this frame, it's currently sold out. I've had luck in the past following the contact link on Jack's shop, emailing him, and he cut me one of the frames. I think I had it in about a week or so.
Short video to a long video. Ha ha. I love it. You talk about other stuff as well as the review. I learn a lot from the extras in the video. Keep up the good work. Thanks.
I can't compare 1102's from various brands as I only fly LDARC's, but for reference the bells and stators have been 100% with crashing into concrete walls, concrete roof tiles and paved walkways. The bells only get scratched up but don't bend or drop magnets. I only fly with Nylon prop screws. Every once in a while I get a shaft bent slightly inside the bell between the bearings, not on top.
Nice review. These little things fly realy nice and its great fun. Iam still using 1105 Mamba motors on my toothpicks in concrete buildings. Iam looking for something else becours infant get them anymore in the shops.
I use adobe premiere. the settings I don't tinker with to much, normally either 4k or 1080 depending on flight footage. I run variable 2pass at 45mbps to 65mpbs.
Hi Nick! I crashed once on asphalt with my 2inch tks rocket 1102 HM motors and bent the bell and the shaft I did not test another brand yet.... I have now 1102 13500 HM motors on it and still have to test it :)

Very cool to hear your opinion on the wiring to 1s for walksnail since I actually did it initially on a build and it seemed to work but then back tracked and soldered to 1s lead worried the regulator may not handle it. I also find it interesting that you seem happy with a 2s 450mah quad weighing 43g as my Flywoo Nano baby 20 with naked DJI weighed in around 44g stock(41g currently) and Bardwell made it sound like it was just too heavy but I've always thought it flew well considering the weight, though the frames a little thin if you crash a lot.
No, the mounting for the frame is 25x25 AIO the race is 20x20 if I recall correctly. I believe there are more frame in the 3inch category available that would suit that vtx and camera.
Hey Nick, regarding the VTX antenna: have you tried TrueRC circular polarised antennas? I’m wondering whether they might work better than linear for HDZero (slightly higher weight notwithstanding). Any thoughts/experience?
Also curious because you’re using RHCP TrueRC Singularities on the goggles (I think) with linear antennas on the VTX - your video looks great but could it be better with matching polarization?
Hi Nick, do you use a specific tune on your 2 inchers ? I'm putting togther a 2 inch HD zero myself with 1103s, 11, 000 kv and Gemfan 2023s. Would you go with bi blades for more flight time or stick w tris ? Looking for 4 min flights if I can
I tend to start with a UAV Tech preset then tune from there. I am working on getting better using the sliders rather than manual number input....old ways die hard. :)
I've had decent luck so for with the HGLRC Aeolus 1102 10000Kv motors, although I haven't crashed a ton with them yet. I've had the HM 1102s bend shafts pretty easily, so I'm still searching for good 2s motors. Also, I'm pretty curious if switching to bi-blades would help durability, curious if you tried this build with 2015 biblades
I have tried biblades a few times. They are really responsive and fun on super quick moves, but don't track as well when turning, requires more throttle compensation.
@@FPV_Cam I always use Nylon prop screws on my LDARC 1102's and found the shafts also bend inside the motor like you said. I have found that some 1103 motors are built with 2mm inner shafts that get stepped down to 1.5mm on top of the bell and am considering replacing all my 1102 and 1103 motors (all 1.5mm inner) with such motors to avoid bending shafts all the time.
I had to use a 5v bec with the 1s Walksnail Vtx on the Darwin baby ape conversion I did to prevent it powering off mid flight and dropping to the ground. Excellent video. One more video closer to delivery of my Hdzero goggles. 😀
Newb builder issue/question - but at some point you should go over the hardware you used to mount the 2 boards to the frame. I'm about to do this myself and am trying to work out what hardware to use!
Hi Nick, love your vlogs. I am curious. Do you know of a table or spreadsheet where anyone (you or another favorite toothpick/micro/2"-3" youtube pilot) has listed maximum recommended AUW by prop size? Im building my first quad which is a GEPRC phantom non HD so I will have two blade 65mm props. I already ordered my next frame which is the 2" LeDroneClub Pickle Pick. I can assume that a higher power to weight ratio is good-er but when I think about choosing engines and batteries especially weight really becomes a question id like to have a guideline for. On the GEPRC phantom Im running rcinpower 1202 1/2 6000kv motors so I will likely run 2-3S battery packs in the 300-500mah range is my plan. I already purchased a couple of 450mah 3S lipo packs but they seem a bit wide for the frame and I might try to get some gum stick shaped lipos I think I may have seen some RDQ branded ones on your channel. Thanks for your channel and for sharing and promoting the hobby responsibly. Youre a rockstar. Ride on.
Oh not sure if it matters but on the GEPRC phantom and all the near future quads im planning on using immersionrc ghost hybrid AIO vtx+rx boards. I already purchased the lite tx backpack module for my jumper t pro to run ghost. I will likely end up on ELRS but I like the little ghost logo so Ill try them first. I mention that because I know that there are AIO boards that include the little ceramic lego brick antenna ELRS rx modules in them already which would save weight if I ran a true AIO board with FC/ESC/VTX/RX but Im choosing to run two AIO boards instead, one for ESC-FC and one for VTX-RX. I know that some extra weight but ce la vie.
I haven't seen or heard of a document or site that has motor size, prop and weight with recommendations. We can certainly model off of what manufacturers do and change the size or kv based on our desires. Rotorbuilds.com is one site that we can find similar builds, but that's about as close as I can come to a resource like your looking for.
I've been pleasantly surprised by happymodel 1404 on the crux35. I used to use brother hobby 1504.5 but found that the weight savings from the 1404 worth it plus they haven't been breaking on my a ton. Still busting frames more than anything and that's why I designed the great discus. It's become my new fav Frame and the arms have rounded carbon slightly larger than the stator on top of that will be adding tpu bumpers soon. :) rotor geeks has happy model manufacturering their motors or just ordering hm ones?

Am I not hearing that much excitement from Nick on this quad or the advantages of HD Zero over analog in this review? Reading between the lines, is he just in love with the way the Rocket Race flies over this❤?
Yes. I much desire the flight performance of the rocket race analog over adding the weight of hd, I pretty much feel this way with every hd micro quad I have tried. Yes, I appreciate the high quality image and benefits of hd, but I so much desire the flight performance of lower weight.
I've seen the O.R.T. MicroVee antenna used a lot and was thinking about moving from linear whips to them on my whoops. However now I come to look I can't find any for sale anywhere (I'm in the UK). Even ORT's website does not have them. Any ideas of alternatives?
Is the issue with the Rocket Race frame and HD Zero/2-stacks just that the props come in too close to the center stack? Can you space the motors up a bit to get the clearance needed like the AIO single board analog?
@@NickBurnsFPV Got it! Thanks! I just hadn't seen what the issue was on the Rocket Race videos you had or this one other than a quick mention of it was too tight or could only work with analog single board. I assumed from pausing and looking at it in various videos of yours that it was because the props sort of "overlap" the AIO analog FC, just above it. Just wanted to more clearly understand, as I'm working on sourcing the parts to build all of this. From what I can see, it looks like I can use a Mobula8 HD (without the DJI camera included) for $94 to work with the Starlord frame and add my own HDZero ECO bundle...

I have the 1202.5 RCInmotors @ 11500kv on the Starlord frame, with an analog setup. Started with the Gemfan 2023 but found them anemic (under-prop.) I tried 2.5" props but had to elevate the stack and the adjacent props made contacts at speed (stretching). Ended happily with the Emax Avan Babyhawk 2.3" tri blades without stack elevation. With a GNB 450mAh 2s batt, it's a heavy 90g AUW. I get about 3 mins of cruisey and 2.5 mins of moderate freestyle flights. And glad to hear 5v has been providing enough amps on the ones you’ve tried. I recall on JB’s video on the walksnail 1s vtx he was concerned and went with vbat. Great video Nick!

What do you call that move that you pull off at 1:51 around the tree? It's sick!
I really don't know what its called. I thinking of it as an inverted turn, sometimes I do what we see other times I nose around to follow the flight path rather than reversing which is what I did in this video.
Maybe you can give it a name…”Nick’s Burn”?

nice build there Mr. Burns! great review
Nice review Nick and nice quad! I have Hdzero quads in 1s, 3s, 4s, and 6s, but I have not done one this small yet in 2s. It looks nice and zippy and perfect for my yard!
2inch 2s has been overlooked for a good long while
For those looking to order this frame, it's currently sold out.
Thanks.
My videos might have structure but definitely free form as well.
Thx mr. Burns! You are my mr nice guy in terms of fpv ;)
Really love your thing that you are doing here!
Thx man!
Nice review. These little things fly realy nice and its great fun. Iam still using 1105 Mamba motors on my toothpicks in concrete buildings. Iam looking for something else becours infant get them anymore in the shops.
Any thoughts on converting Flywoo Nano Baby 20 Vista to this frame?
The frame is thicker, we will need longer screws for mounting motors and flight controller.
My most durable 2" 2S motor is the hglrc 1203 11500kv. You need a tattu 550mah 2S and 85% throttle Limit. Kicks ass
Hdz is looks really good these days. What are you using to edit and what settings?
I use adobe premiere. the settings I don't tinker with to much, normally either 4k or 1080 depending on flight footage. I run variable 2pass at 45mbps to 65mpbs.
@@NickBurnsFPV thanks
Hi Nick! I crashed once on asphalt with my 2inch tks rocket 1102 HM motors and bent the bell and the shaft I did not test another brand yet.... I have now 1102 13500 HM motors on it and still have to test it :)
And those 2inch micros are a lot of fun also the Mobula 8 and the bassline fly really great!!!

Bought an Avio3.5 with your code a while back... just wanted to say that I'm 100% with you on Avant - handling on the quad is absolutely insane.
Nice. Good to get that real world confirmation. Thank you
Thanks for the video Nick. I've been perusing Jack's website looking for a HDZero suitable frame. Your video answered all my questions 👍
Yea the flywoo might be a touch under motored as they went the 1002 route. I think they did. Out of town atm 😁🤣🤷🏻♂️
I bought the HDZero goggles bundle with the Nano90 camera and Race V2 VTX. Would those fit this build?
Race v2 vtx is 20x20 and heavier, and camera is considerably bigger and heavier too, so you'll be looking for a bigger frame for that combo
No, the mounting for the frame is 25x25 AIO the race is 20x20 if I recall correctly. I believe there are more frame in the 3inch category available that would suit that vtx and camera.

I'm about to put Walksnail on a Starlord frame. (HM X12 FC, Flywoo 1002 motors)
Agree! good but 23€ in France 😳 I buy one for the weight 0,25gr👍🏼
I have used various antenna including true rc. I haven’t found a benefit for me in my spaces.
Hi Nick, do you use a specific tune on your 2 inchers ?
I'm putting togther a 2 inch HD zero myself with 1103s, 11, 000 kv and Gemfan 2023s. Would you go with bi blades for more flight time or stick w tris ?
Looking for 4 min flights if I can
I am looking to do the same. Thinking similar parts. Which FC are you looking at?
@@ManjaroBlack Its a spare parts build from another quad using the Mamba 25 amp aio board (F405)
I've snapped shafts off a full set of HM 1102's on my rocket race build. I just run screws by default now.. Maybe I crash too hard too often!
Good to know the hglrc 1102 are 👍
I wonder if screws would help in my case, they've always bent for me in the rotor housing not necessarily above the bell which is a bummer..
😀
Good to know. The 5v reg on the that board doesn't sound like it holds up to the power/amp draw.
Nice setup!

Thanks that’s a great site!

Yes, I appreciate the high quality image and benefits of hd, but I so much desire the flight performance of lower weight.
betafpv got new 1102 motors with 22000kv. will you test them?
No I haven't. Those would be 1s motors. Probably a decent option on a 2inch 1, maybe 2.5inch 1s. Could push to 3inch in a biblade prop as well.
Cool drone, need try, thx!
I've seen the O.R.T. MicroVee antenna used a lot and was thinking about moving from linear whips to them on my whoops. However now I come to look I can't find any for sale anywhere (I'm in the UK). Even ORT's website does not have them. Any ideas of alternatives?
I get mine here in the US from racedayquads.com maybe try to find them on fpvexchange.com
Would the deadbat frame be considered a "squashed x"?
Yea I would consider it that
Is the issue with the Rocket Race frame and HD Zero/2-stacks just that the props come in too close to the center stack? Can you space the motors up a bit to get the clearance needed like the AIO single board analog?
certainly if we raise the prop with either taller motors or a motor mount it would be workable.

What about 1202/1202.5 motors? I haven't tried any but that might be a lightweight option if 1102s are scare. Has anyone here tried them?
they are an option, I think those are nearly double the weight. Likely a good option for a larger prop.
I like this "square" and thick (2.5mm) Starlord frame because it accommodates larger/heavier motors without vibration issues. I'll put HDZero on my second Starlord frame.

@@NickBurnsFPV The one I’ve built out for myself comes in at less than 247g. I’m going to try and get that weight down by using Carbon Fiber nylon.
The one in my video was printed with PLA+. It’s not flexible enough for a hit. Yet it’s easy to print another frame, and swap the parts over in no time.
