  • Today's review on Leica Revue brings my perspective of the Voigtlander Ultron28mm f/2 Aspherical Lens in VM Mount (Mark 2). With all of the stylings of classic M lenses of the 70's and 80's, with the performance that rivals any of its 21st century counterparts, does this lens have what it takes to step up to the Podium with Leica's 28mm Summicron Offerings? Watch this video for my answer.

    Totally agree about this lens. I was never a 28m fan before but after using it on a recent trip (on a Leica M body)...I'm a solid fan. Amazing quality. Small. Easy to focus.

    Hey Ashwin! Thanks for this video. I took the plunge and bought this lens and it makes me happy each time I use it. It is breathing new life into my M8- such a crisp and neutral rendering with nice 3D effect :) happy to have stumbled upon your channel. Your talent in reviewing and sharing your insights benefits so many of us

    Another great informative video. I love the 28 ultron, I had the Elmairt 28 2.8 and is was wonderful but just couldn't justify keeping it after using the ultron. 2 other great lenses are the 35m and 50m CV APOs. I love those 3.

      Thank you so much. The 28's are all quite impressive, and yes, I agree. The Ultron is a winner, as is their old 28mm f/3.5 LTM lens, in case anyone reading these are considering options. Thankfully, used 28mm elmarits and summicrons are also readily available in most markets.

    Great video! Can't wait for this to arrive tomorrow to me. Just got my first Leica and its a range and my first lens was the TT 50mm 1.4. Its been hard to get used to, especially zone focusing and sometimes with the patch. I understand the 28 and 35s are much easier, and can't wait for this lens!!!

    Thank you Ashwin for this great review ! 👍 I also checked your 35mm APO Lanthar video, and I am struggling to decide between this one and the 28mm Ultron ii. You mentioned that the image quality of the 28 is close to the 35 APO. Could you precise how close it is ? Do you see a real difference or not ? I ask because I am currently using a M11, and I would like to have the lens to manage the 60MP of the sensor. I know the 35 APO will be, but what about the 28 ? Also, do you find any difference in terms of character, colors and contrasts between the two ? Would you say than one or the other is closer than the famous « Leica look and 3D rendition » ?
    Thanks a lot if you take the time to answer and keep up the great work ! Good luck for your channel 😉👌

    Thank you for the detailed review, Ashwin. If money were no objective, strictly based on image quality, how would you rank order the Leica 28/1.4 Summilux, 28/2 Summicron and this Voigtlander 28/2 Ultron II for their optical performance? TIA...

      not really, basically where the two frame lines meet the corner the lens sits between them. Does not affect my framing at all

    It's a nice lens, but it's never as sharp as either the Leica 28mm Summicron or the Leica 28mm Elmarit. Other reviewers will attest to this (including Ken Rockwell). I tried both, I kept the Elmarit. Also, the Elmarit is better corrected. And it's slightly smaller (I think). Lines are straight. The 28mm Elmarit is still king of value for money, no compromise 28mm on M mount.

      Can you show your comparison shots? I highly doubt the Leica lenses are better in any way …

    • @hellatightdude
      @hellatightdude 2 года назад +1

      @@Zlaja192 there are several test shots on r/analog, l camera forum, etc. the ultron is a great lens for the price, but the summicron is better. The ultron vignetting at f/2 is so bad that the 28 elmarit is the better lens, also considering it’s better sharpness and nicer look.

      @@Zlaja192 great place to look for test shots of certain lenses specifically with film cameras since you’re required to put camera, lens and film stock in the title. I only shoot film so I couldn’t talk about the performance of a lens on digital, but in regards to film I personally prefer the Leica 28mm lenses to the Voigt, although there’s no denying it’s an excellent lens. I have a 75mm Nokton myself and had a 35mm Ultron for a while so I can attest to their quality for sure
