You always try to put out good information and I think you succeed. I believe with your last video does not put electric cars in a good light. The charging grid work is not where it should be. If you are Ford, Chevy or what ever manufacture there should be charging stations at your location. EV's or Electric vehicles have a place in our world but just not now.
Thank you george. I'm really not trying to put EVS in a bad light. It's just the truth. The charging network is very difficult and regularly underperforms. I really do hope Tesla opens up more of their superchargers soon.
The Tesla app indicated that the first location was a destination (level 2) charger and not a supercharger. It was also listed as private. A location with a magic dock would have shown a red icon in the app.
6:46 I think that it says 10 of 12 available. You might’ve misspoke when you said that 2 were available? It really doesn’t matter because all Teslas have their charge ports on their left rear quarter panel. That enables Tesla to make their charge cables really short.
You know about the ‘Magic Dock’ and as a lot have already said you first tried to go to private destination charger. Yeah, the Lightning seems like a hassle, but my Niro and our Bolt seemed to have worked fine, even on the road.
When the Tesla network opens up more, and every other manufacturer has the Tesla NACS port built-in, then these problems would go away. For now, if you don't want to be bothered with these issues but want an EV, Tesla is the only choice. I've owned a Model 3 for close to 4 years and charging on long trips has never been an issue. The other manufacturers simply needed to invest heavily in a charging network, but it doesn't seem like they have, and now you're paying the price. Another thing to note: Tesla's 'destination' chargers are those that are found at hotels, garages etc. They're not the superchargers that are located in parking lots and along the freeway. So if you see the word 'destination' in the name, it's either in a hotel, garage, resort or located on private property. They're usually slower, but I believe there are v3 wall chargers that offer fast charging at some locations.
im definitely waiting till they are on board with the tesla network... and yea... if you are pulling a boat or trailer... forget about pulling into a charger
Even when Ford adopts the Tesla NACS charging method the location of the charging port connector on your Ford truck makes it difficult or impossible to park your Ford truck close enough to the Tesla charger.
I can only imagine Californians walking around looking for charging stations is the funniest thing! That’s a big nope for me on electric trucks. I’ll stick to my diesel
As someone with 39 years in the automotive repair fields. I have watched your videos of this Ford Lightning, and must tell you something…….you are crazy for buying this Ford let alone riding all over the state trying to find a charging location that do not exist!
I know. I wouldn't buy a Ford Lightning for anything. What a nightmare. That is why I bought a Tesla. I do 99% of my charging at home. Lots of fast charging stations that just work for the two times every 4 months I need to travel about 300 miles. Sweet.
We ran into the problem of the Tesla chargers being in a parking garage in downtown Colorado Springs. My only complaint was that there was no sign on the side of the building telling us to turn into the garage for access. Once we saw a Tesla charger in a window we finally figured it out and pulled through. Yes, it costs a buck at the kiosk but it is safe, out of the weather and plenty of chargers available. Just needs an "enter for Tesla" sign somewhere. That might have been the case with the chargers in San Diego - just try to pull in (or walk in) and see next time.
A couple friends have had to build mobile power storage units they tow into town and charge to subsidize the AWFUL experience of having a charged vehicle on demand, at GREAT cost, not to mention all the costly accessories they need to interface with their homes, ev’s and remote power units. This will only get worse as demand grows. The tech is still years behind.
I love the concept of an EV from an engineering perspective. Almost zero maintenance, instant torque, etc. But how on Earth will this ever work in a major city for millions of people and those that can't charge at home? Apartment dwellers are instantly screwed. Even if Tesla opens their network to other brands, there won't be enough by far. And, when they do, Tesla owners will be screwed waiting in line for hours for Bolts, Leafs, Kona's, Bloattangs, and others to get out of the way. My local gas station has 12 pumps. Figure five minutes per fill and you are moving at least 50 and maybe close to 60 cars per hour. And they don't have to refill for several hundred miles. I've been wanting an EV for a couple years now, but I think I'll save 50K. That would buy a lifetime of gas for me. Sorry, if you don't agree but this just isn't ready yet.
Hello I don’t know if you are trying to badmouth or sell electric vehicles but honestly from what I’m getting from this is that these electric cars are not worth it if someone does not have a fast charger at their house or apartment available they are shit out of luck. Just having to look for a charger that works and add a few more years and a few hundred more electric vehicles on the road then it’s going to be hell. We are seriously are running to these electric vehicles to fast. I imagine a lot of people are going to end up late for work if they need to rely on a charger that works and is not being used already.
Public EV charging seems like it's a bit of a lottery. But surely, as an EV owner, you'd know the best places to charge in your local area? And most of the issues seem to be with the Ford app which was sending you to destination chargers when you'd filtered for DC Fast chargers. So you went to one DC fast charging location where the 2 of the 3 chargers were working but occupied. Another single rogue charger at a Harley dealer that didn't work (but looked kind of neglected) and one that you didn't film that charged you $4 for a kWh?? That was actually about it for DC fast chargers. I can't believe they are the best sites in your area?
You could tow a generator with a gas powered motor😅. The Germans had a similar problem in late WWII: advanced armored vehicles, but not enough fuel to make them work.
The only car that you can regular charge at a charging station is tesla. All the rest of ev are, like your old friend very well noticed for charging at home, to go and find a fast charging station there is like mission impossible, only Tom Cruise can find a working full operations charging station. În Europe there are many stations but the public ones are very expensive and the max output is 110 kw. Ev are eficient and almoust free, is you charge at home and you have solar panels. I strongly recommend if you want an Ev that you have the posibility to charge at home and take in consideration the solar panels, that will guarantee you a very low cost of charging and if you have more than one electric car the cost of the panels will amortised very quick and after that you just benefit of free energy. You no longer worry for fuel consumption ever again. If you Don t have the possibility of charging at home, tesla is the only good and viable option. Before buying an Ev make sure you have the posibility to charge it easy, or else everything is turning into a nightmare.
@@josephoberlander- An hour wait? Not so in the US unless maybe during a major holiday, don’t know never tried it then. But the Tesla app will tell you how long the wait is, I’ve never seen it that long. @@Chainyanker007 And you are the perfect customer as well. If it was me, living in an apartment building, no charging nearby, and everything costing 35 cents/kwh.. not really.
48 cents per Kwh. Electricity rates in Florida and other states is 16 cents per Kwh ! Using a 'public' charger is THREE TIMES as much as charging at home!
I love my lightning platinum. I never have a charging problem, because I never use public chargers. In fact if I had to depend on public chargers I wouldn't have purchased my lightning. Why would anyone pat $1.00/kwh when you can charge at home for $.08-$.12/kwh. This vehicle is great for local use, hauling or towing, no problem.
I agree it is great for local use but sometimes I do want to take it out on a longer trip. If I need to do that I want to charge and charge quick. Wish it was easier.
Thank you. I love my lightning. The furthest I drive is from Dallas to Houston or Dallas to Oklahoma City. With a range of 320 I charge when I get there to 80% and I ride all weekend and charge at Walmart before I head back unless I charge at my hotel. Thank GOD Ford is linking up with Teslas network so public charging won’t be and issue.
Doesn't this setup leave Tesla in control of who, what, where, when, and HOW MUCH they pay at any Tesla station? If Tesla owners start complaining about overcrowded stations that Tesla owners are waiting to use, Tesla could limit or discontinue 'sharing' their network or making it prohibitive ly expensive for non-Tesla owners as a selling point for their brand as well as a new profit center.
I don't understand why you need the app to register a charging location. That makes no sense and is not how any other EV I've driven works. I hope Ford have since changed their software so that if you plug in a non-rapid plug in a new location it just starts charging, regardless of what timed charge rules you have set for your other favourite locations.
The only thing you are missing is Plugshare. I have traveled 17 states in my Mach e, including midwest states and never experienced what you are showing.
I'm a bit late to this discussion, but PlugShare is much better when trying to find a charger. It will let you know the average speed, how to find it, and if it's down. You will also see other people's comments, including whether or not they were able to get a decent charge. As for Ford's (and GM's, and some others') changing over to NACS, that is esciting news, especially for me! I live in the backwoods of VT, and CCS fast chargers are few and far between! However, as you said, it won't reach! I contacted Ford about this, and their response was that Tesla is going to install longer cables. I highly doubt this will be instant, and I KNOW VT will be one of the last states anyone even thinks about, so I'm not sure how I feel about this! I have a Chevy Bolt EV, right now, and love it, other than a lack of cargo space! I really want an F-150 Lightning, and hope my general experience will be as positive as it has been with my Bolt, but I'm thinking I'll wait another 5 - 10 years, while they hammer out all the bugs!
The need to make regular level 3 chargers more like they have for Tesla that's the damn problem it's only be like 3 stalls when you go places and telsa have 50 empty
I knew tesla was going to charge extra to charge a lightning. Can you imagine if you were empty $131 to fill up. I DON'T THINK SO. I'd pull into a slow charger and wait before I'd pay tesla costs.
Chargers are no longer allowed in multi story or underground parking. To much risk of self combustion like the one that burnt out that car transport ship.
With my Ariya i have to park opposite space because the plug is on the right side. Haven't had any issues finding public charging when traveling so far but i do have issues with the release. I constantly have to lock and unlock the car so system can release the charger
@@Chainyanker007 The reason the car has to be unlocked is so that someone other than the owner cannot remove the charging cable. That is similar to some ICE cars that have the gas filler door release inside the car.
I drove by a line of EVs - at least a dozen in a row waiting for their turn at a fast charger. Twice, just getting across town. The issue is that the political and marketing hype is not in line with the reality on the street and infrastructure. A few percent of people own an EV and it's already this much of a mess? Also, 48 cents / kwh is not uncommon. They know they have a captive audience at major locations and gouge. And at that price, the MPGe drops from a government pie in the sky best case 12 cents and 120miles to.. 30 MPGe. Yes, at 48 cents per kwh, the thing isn't as efficient as a simple hybrid that has zero isues with finding fuel. It's just not ready yet.
Where do you get 30 MPGe. I drive a ‘20 Tesla model S LR+, it has a combined hiway/city MPGe of 111. Even better for a M3 or MY no ICE comes close. Much more economical to drive an EV than any ICE car.
@@Chainyanker007 The U.S. government assumes a pathetically low 11 cents per kwh for those calculations. In California you are looking at tripple that for electricity rates, which drops the 111mpge to 38 assuming a 32 cents/kwh rate at public chargers. If you can't charge at home, you simply ARE better off with a hybrid. ELvel 3 charges assuming you aren't on Tesla's network are 40 cents, which is where my calculation came in. Charging an EV with a 111mpge "rating" at 40 cents/kwh nets you 30.5 actual mpge. OUCH. And judging by Europe's prices, it's only going to get worse as companies see a huge captive audience.
That's crazy that the only chargers that are actually reliable are the Tesla chargers. Those other charger companies have a change to take a piece of the pie and they are messing it up beyond comprehension.
Exactly, I live in Minnesota as well. As of now, I wouldn't purchase an EV yet. Hopefully, in a couple of years they figure this out and the EV chargers get an upgrade.
He makes some interesting comments that don't add up. If you NEED a truck to perform work, why consider an electric truck - EV is in complete juxtaposition. Trucks are designed to haul and tow long distances. Energy density of a battery versus 38 gallons of diesel (and an understanding power to perform work over time) is pretty basic. EV are great for short runs (within your city for a commute to work), it gets questionable if you are traveling interstate on a time schedule and especially if you need to haul or tow.
The salesman needs a bit more training. Just like your ford, the Harley has a separate cap over the fast charging connectors, clearly visible in the video. So yes, it can do DC fast charging.
"Charging Port? Oh okay there we go so you can't do DC Fast charging on this though.." / "No." / "Alright." ...while looking directly at a CCS DC Fast charging port 😅That guy never wheelie'd one for sure... it just won't do that unless you apply some skill and disable traction control, I would not describe that as "easy". The correct answer would be "I don't know about this bike I've ridden it around the parking lot and I think it is interesting. Are you an EV driver? Can you explain to me what an EV owner would want to know about this bike, and we'll find out for you?"
I fill my diesel once a month.takes 5 min, I get about 1000km out of a tank. No drama. I can also drive from Brisbane to Sydney without refueling. Zero anxiety. I simply don’t have the patience for that BS. If you have an EV you also need to have a real car. Never an EV for me.
But do you have a 700 mile bladder? And how often do you need those 700 miles? My Model Y has a 330 mile range battery. For daily use, that is always enough. On a road trip, when I stop to 'go', I usually charge up and get something to eat. The car almost always finishes charging before I'm done eating.
What a waste of time... No thanks. I will keep my 6.2 V8 and fill up pretty much 2 minutes from my house. Oh, and be done in 5 minutes. POS electric grid is not ready for all these EV's... How long until you trade that in on a truck that can actually tow, and be used like a truck. It is basically a car with a huge trunk...

Owns a ford EV using Tesla app. Thanks for pumping up my Tesla stock sir.
@@Blankee-o1t lol… seriously??? I just reload every time it drops. No brainer. Tesla is the future.
May they always be this close.
Safe and secure in her big brother's arms.
Haha
I can only imagine Californians walking around looking for charging stations is the funniest thing! That’s a big nope for me on electric trucks. I’ll stick to my diesel
As someone with 39 years in the automotive repair fields. I have watched your videos of this Ford Lightning, and must tell you something…….you are crazy for buying this Ford let alone riding all over the state trying to find a charging location that do not exist!
Haha, thank you for the comment.
Winner !!!! don’t spend all day charging spend all day looking for somewhere to charge
And that’s why some people return to ICE cars and IMO its a good thing
Dream truck. But so much anxiety watching this lol
Order a Cybertruck, lol.
For the 5 minutes it takes to buy a tank of gas this doesn't sell me on going electric. What do you do if it's 40 below zero?
Pray ..lol
You stay home and fire up the wood stove.
Yeh, don't be wearing you Rolex when you're charging in some remote spot in the dark.
this is why ev in america just not worth it right now.. no infrastructure for them .. to much of a pain to charge when out and about..
Tesla just committed their network to Ford in Jan...Game Changer for sure but still a ways out.
Even then, Tesla is often an hour wait around the block. The thing is, though, that only 3.7% of homes have solar and a garage (4.1% in the U.K.)
@@josephoberlander- An hour wait? Not so in the US unless maybe during a major holiday, don’t know never tried it then. But the Tesla app will tell you how long the wait is, I’ve never seen it that long. I charge at home but usually at a new SC station just 0.3 miles away, either way it’s basically free, I have free SC charging plus solar panels, net metering and TOU rates. Sure beats pumping gas, ymmv.
@@Chainyanker007 And you are the perfect customer as well. If it was me, living in an apartment building, no charging nearby, and everything costing 35 cents/kwh.. not really.
Looks like a day out trying to charge the truck 😂😂😂😂
I doubt very much that was a magic dock charger. A DC fast charger under an apartment complex?
It was said to be "a dollar an hour". At 6kW, that comes out to about $0.17/kWh.
5 Years before I would even consider it, and definitely not with a 3 ton truck. Ford Lightning sales have collapsed.
Has anybody thought about the possible of the cost of recharging electric vehicles soon costing 100% more than now?
Piece of cake to enter in your charging location into your Ford pass app.
Yes, and if it was working properly most of the time it would be great. Also you should be able to do this from your vehicle, without an app.
The need to make regular level 3 chargers more like they have for Tesla that's the damn problem it's only be like 3 stalls when you go places and telsa have 50 empty
why don't you hang up the cord for the level 2 ,cord was just laying in parking space ?
I knew tesla was going to charge extra to charge a lightning. Can you imagine if you were empty $131 to fill up. I DON'T THINK SO. I'd pull into a slow charger and wait before I'd pay tesla costs.
It's a cost time question. If you have extra time you can buy it for less.
21c per kw! Wow. Where I live in Scotland it’s $1.03 per kw.
Today it's 50c per kw. Doubled in a short amount of time.
Lock/unlock the car to release the cable? Sounds so lame. Something is not right.
@@Chainyanker007 The reason the car has to be unlocked is so that someone other than the owner cannot remove the charging cable. That is similar to some ICE cars that have the gas filler door release inside the car.
this confirms why I don't want an EV unless the government forces it on me
I believe i saw you can do fast charge the motorcycle
all the wasted time and no bathrooms or snacks ev for short around town with home charging. not for travel so how much time to start charging ??
There is no way I’m ready to buy this headache of a vehicle
Can you have a short extension cord made up?
There are a few companies that can make them for you.
This is why they should have gone with battery swap stations instead of charging stations.
That's crazy that the only chargers that are actually reliable are the Tesla chargers. Those other charger companies have a change to take a piece of the pie and they are messing it up beyond comprehension.
Its sad. Minnesota charging points at gas stations 😮 no one removing snow . I was filling gas and just wondering how someone can charge there car .
Exactly, I live in Minnesota as well. As of now, I wouldn't purchase an EV yet. Hopefully, in a couple of years they figure this out and the EV chargers get an upgrade.
This is EXACTLY why I bought a Tesla. No need to worry about the other charging networks. They are a cluster FU##.
I know how you could fix that truck put a Chevy motor in it
Just not a Chevy transmission...lol
@@JettersGarage I am a Ford guy but I think electric vehicles are joke and nothing discuss me more then someone putting a Chevy motor in a fford
12 attempts to charge 8 on eletrricfy not working and he recommends them. Not me.
Omg, that's so scary. Definitely only getting a tesla. Such a horrible experience.
You can buy a gas generator or drop a coyote engine in that frunk or whatever you might call it .
strike one, strike two, strike three, and on and on and on and on
Did you do any research before you went out and started trying random chargers? this all could have been avoided with a little research.
The salesman needs a bit more training. Just like your ford, the Harley has a separate cap over the fast charging connectors, clearly visible in the video. So yes, it can do DC fast charging.
And hope it doesn’t catch fire in your garage
I'm more worried about my phone catching fire. 😀
Spoiler Alert: there aren’t any Tesla Magic Docks near you at the current time
Buy a 70amp adopter to CCS
Ford CEO did not think forward at all. Time to fire Farrell or Ferrell
More proof buying these vehicles is stupid.
Don’t buy a vehicle that doesn’t have the infrastructure yet. It will be there but it takes time. Rome wasn’t built overnight.
"Charging Port? Oh okay there we go so you can't do DC Fast charging on this though.." / "No." / "Alright."
...while looking directly at a CCS DC Fast charging port 😅That guy never wheelie'd one for sure... it just won't do that unless you apply some skill and disable traction control, I would not describe that as "easy".
This was Sloppy Joe's big vision.
i'll only get a none Tesla EV if they can be charge using Tesla network
I just filled up my VW diesel. It now says 700 miles to empty. I’ll stick with my diesel
Who would put up with this? Who has this much free time?
What a cluster!
Great commercial for why you DON'T want an electric vehicle... especially a truck.
It is basically a car with a huge trunk...

we dont "need" the vast majority of the things we have but yet we have them?
That not a tesla charging stations.
I visited a friend in California last year and she had an electric vehicle. Anywhere we went on a day trip, we had to drive around to find a charging station, and then we had to walk a long distance to get to a Target or a supermarket and waste an hour shopping around while the car charged. Why would anyone ever buy one of these things?
