An Interview with Professor Ashok Saxena

  • Professor Saxena, President and CTO, WireTough Cylinders, Bristol,
    Virginia, USA, and Distinguished Professor (retired) and Dean
    Emeritus, University of Arkansas.
    Prof. Saxena had a long career in the field of Materials which began as
    a Research Metallurgist in National Steel Corporation in Weirton, West
    Virginia in 1974, followed by an appointment as Fellow Scientist at
    Westinghouse R&D Center, Regents’ Professor, and Chair of the
    School of Materials Science and Engineering at Georgia Tech, and as
    Distinguished Professor and Dean of Engineering, and later as Provost
    and Vice-Chancellor at University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.
    During this period, Professor Saxena developed many courses for UG
    and PG programs and headed the Materials Science and Engineering
    department for many years. Prof. Saxena’s work on Creep and Creep-
    Fatigue Crack growth of metallic materials is known to every
    metallurgist and mechanical engineer and is a part of textbooks and
    has led to several ASTM Standards.
    Abhinesh Verma, a student of IIT Ropar interviewed Prof. Saxena. This
    interview is shared here, and it was a pleasure and was very inspiring
    speaking with the legendary professor.
