Today we're going to show you a complete beginners guide to plastering a wall. And the most important thing is that we're going to show you 2 ways to apply the plaster.
Here's the tools used in this video:
    --
    Ox Speedskim - amzn.to/3QoUKVi
    Plaster Roller - amzn.to/3WWSibo
    Nela Premium Trowel - amzn.to/3ifgxCB
    Ox Hawk - amzn.to/3ZlYds7
    Refina Mixing Bucket - amzn.to/3ZglgV9
    Bondit Plasterers Prescrit - amzn.to/40mcW7y
    --
One of the hardest skills in plastering is applying the plaster. And I highly recommend that you learn to use a trowel and hawk. However, if you're completely new then I can show you an easier way to get the plaster onto the wall...
    And that's with a roller.
It sounds outrageous but this method works and you can actually get good results doing it. You just need to know HOW...
That's what I teach in this video. This is one part in a 5 part series called "Plastering For Beginners Crash Course". We'll show you the full process to plastering so make sure to subscribe so you don't miss any future videos.
If you like this video hit the like and subscribe button if you want to be part of the course.
And please leave a comment on what you want to see next. I'd love to hear from you.
    Hope you enjoy the training.

What do you use for finishing plaster? Gyproc Skimcoat Plaster? I'm in Ireland myself and spme Gyproc products for some reason are very hard to get.
I tried Knauf Fill and Finish which was good but I wouldn't know how to use it on whole wall as I think it would set too fast.

Air bubbles you got, appear because you've completely sealed the wall, and plaster is not mixed well. Bubbles appear because of continued chemical reaction, and gases don't have any other way to go.
Usually appropriate primer is used in order to adjustable limit soaking into the surface.
If you use not gypsum plaster, you may need to sand, and apply primering paint, before laying finishing layer of plaster.
Which may be a special plastering compound, which doesn't let plaster compact under finish paint.
This will certainly happen when you paint with a good paint for walls.
A primering paint at its stage will compact and fix layer of plaster, preventing its further deformation under chemicals and water of finishing wall paint.
The skimming technique you show seems to be very efficient. Especially combined with foaming.
It is goog to use side light to better see and correct all imperfections appearing in process.

Blaine I'm just about to purchase the tools needed to plaster from a previous video you did. In regards to flattening would you recommend a speedskim or straight edge/Darby? Or are they different things? TIA :)

In your log burner fireplace video you use lime, I'm looking to do a fireplace for a log burner, but looking for a small bag of lime.
Where is the best place to buy it?
The B&Q bag is to big for one small fireplace.
    Any ideas?
Great videos, thanks for taking the time to make them 👍

Hi Blaine, I have a small wall in a bathroom which has been covered with Jackoboard, unfortunately it’s off square and I need to fill it and make it square with the bath. What would you recommend to use (Thistle One Coat ?) to fill ? Would you recommend SBR to treat the Jackoboard before plastering or nothing ? I want to tile directly onto this surface !! Thank you very much for your advice. Regards Andy

Ive picked up some skimming work , im not a plasterer by the way but have done little bits and helped out my daughter and the work turned out great using a 13 " x 5 " marshalltown but im keen to try the nela as they do feel lovely in the hand.

You may want to use airless plastering system. Shnek systems are cheap and give a very good result.
I dont know what type of plaster you use, incase if it is not gypsum compound - try shnek system.
I always use roller since my second plastering task.
But it is much better to add a handle stick to it, and work by both hands. Because you need to apply pressure to the wall, when you need to cover fast a wide surface.
And handle saves joints of worker's hands, even if task looks simple.
There is no need for buying it.
Anything will do - a short stick of wood or metal stick from broom.

Only just started watching but winced a bit at 4:26 when you started to use the stone to round the trowel off. Please anyone doing this keep your fingers well out of the way!!! Don't hold the trowel in your hands I'd say, keep it on a flat surface. If not one slip and there will be a lot of blood.......
