I love the sibling subtexts in Ragnarok. Hela bashes Thor because she, as the oldest, have seen her father at his absolute worst and now sees him choose her little brother as heir. That's the bitter burden of the firstborn, you're the tutorial of your parents on how to raise a kid, they do their best but make all the mistakes with you and become competent once the younger siblings show up. "Get up, you're in my seat" is 100% something a sibling would say. When she fights Thor it's reminiscent of how an older brother/sister toys with the younger.

I thought it was good. Had the appropriate mix of humor and seriousness to make the entire movie enjoyable. I actually think it deserved to be one of those longer 3 hour movies. Imagine the action you could have had with her "being the worst". She had great line delivery and was seemingly the most powerful thing in existence at that time. While trashing Thor with ease is impressive, they could have covered her rampage to show what she really had in store for everyone else. Making the movie longer and having more dialog would have done more justice as the writing at this point in the MCU was pretty good. Being outclassed in everyway could have also been a great Thor character development story. I think the only problem with this movie is they wanted to rush it out as the 1.5 hour movie and clip out of just how important all this actually was to everyone.

One of the most admirable features of the Thor films that find unique from others is you really feel the sibling roles coming out of Thor, Loki, and Hela. For starters with talking about their relationships with Odin is such a similar thing to when kids bicker about their parents’ rules. But especially that among the throne talk how Thor’s insult is “you’re just the worst” which 100% something a brother would say to their sister. I love how Taika ran with Thor’s family for the third movie’s plot.

“It seems this solution to everything was to cover it up.”
“Or to cast them out….. He told you you were worthy, he said the same thing to me.”
I love these lines from Thor because it implies that he is mad at Odin. We never find out how Thor reacted to Odin telling him about Loki’s adoption. I imagine he was upset, but based on their interactions at the beginning of TWD, he forgave Odin. But, his agreement with Hela says something different.
What if he holds resentment towards Odin for lying about Loki’s adoption? And now that resentment has increased because Odis’s lies about him have come to light?

That's the best kind of villain imo. The kind that you can empathise with - like Zemo - but despite that you still know that what they're doing/plan to do is just _evil_ and you can't stand for it. Thor understands where Hela's resentment comes from because he felt the same when he was exiled but unlike Hela he learned to forgive, grow past it, and be better than the sins of the father.

Marvel is a joke at this point, and for the most part they wanted it to be when they leaned into cheap, cheesy, and childish forms of family friendly comedy.
After they saw it work for GOTG, and knowing Iron Man worked so well with the one liners (even if they themselves knew they couldn't strike gold again like they did with Iron Man), all they had to do at that point was keep cutting corners and lowering quality in favor of quantity.
Always making sure they water down certain themes and characters enough to make it easy for them to cash in on prequels, sequels, spinoffs, and etc. without having to follow much of a plot or canon of any kind.

@@strangefire2024 It took a celestial power to beat her by completing obliterating the entire planet, and even then it's not certain she's dead.
Thor who is supposed to have the same power source more or less was toothless against her, I can get with extra physical strength as that's part of the comic lore but her complete physical immunity to any weapon attack other than the complete destruction of the planet is utterly ridiculous when Thor is penetrated by any Asgardian level weapon.
Where does this ability to produce unlimited sharp objects come from, Thor's the God of elements, he controls external elements like thunder, lightning, wind etc..., but she is the God of what exactly? She calls herself the god of death but why because she chooses to use her inexplicable ability to produce sharp objects from her actual body to murder other beings and that's the reason she's the god of death? At least her comic counterpart was actually the god of death or one of the death realms.
Then somehow has the ability to crush a hammer that is way beyond any Asgardian in durability including Odin and Thor just by crushing it with her bare hands, another inexplicable "party trick" they give to Deux ex machina characters with terrible writing
