Excellent video, as always. For supporting actress, I’d actually choose Juliette Lewis for ‘Kalifornia’ as a nominee; thought she was so perfect in that underrated gem. You guys are totally right about the best score category-such baffling omissions. Can’t wait for the discussion of 1999 films from 2000 ceremony, and really hope you two continue this series forever, it’s the best.

THE JOY LUCK CLUB. THE WEDDING BANQUET. Not a single mention of these movies in the video, for shame. They are in my Top 5 of the year. Some days I might say The Joy Luck Club is even my favorite, the way it weaves together all of the deeply felt vignettes, the passage of time and family, individual sacrifice and doubt, creates such a beautiful tapestry. A PERFECT WORLD is another you left out, I think it's Eastwood's best work as a director.

I love the Tom Hanks win. Well deserved and still holds up. I wish Robin Williams was more in the running that awards season for Mrs. Doubtfire, at least for a nomination. Perfect blend of comedy and drama, and probably the most rewatched performance of that year. Great lineup of actors though.

1:23:30 Wait, Denzel campaigned in lead and not supporting? If he’d gone supporting, he probably would have been nominated over John Malkovich

I think I’ve been calling the Oscars based on the years of the movies too until they changed it up in 2000 (just so they can called it Oscars 2000 which was actually for the movies of 1999) which really screwed up my ordering of the ceremonies.

Why are you saying Forrest Gump didn’t age well? It still a very beloved movie.

    My favorite films of 1993:
    - Jurassic Park
    - Schindler’s List (Neeson, Fiennes should have won.)
    - Batman: Mask of the Phantasm
    - Three Colors: Blue (Juliette Binoche should’ve been nominated and WON Best Actress, in my opinion.)
Not a huge fan of The Piano.

Three Colors: Blue should’ve been nominated for actress, music and cinematography at the very least. I would’ve nominated it for picture, original screenplay, director and editing as well.

My issue with "Philadelphia" (as a gay man) is that the script is basically just on-the-nose narration, extremely preachy and quite shallow. Hanks does a great job and so does Banderas. But I would say that the weak link is the script.

Tommy Lee Jones did not deserve the oscar. It should have been Leonardo DiCaprio or Ralph Fiennes.
