Well I am halfway through the assembly part of Summer Breeze! It's a challenge for sure, I probably should have picked a simpler one to start but thanks to your video I will make it through! My DIL will love it. The quilting scares me a little ...all those mane pieces. Thank you
Absolutely brilliant. I have the sea otters that I purchased from QITV, but have been too scared to try it. I once took a class on this method a couple years ago and found it too complicated and overwhelming. Your presentation has shown me that it can be done easily.
Thank you I loved the tutorial and now have all the tools and supplies to start Summer Breeze ( the horse) for my DIL for Christmas. I am a little confused about using my printer to do some of the tracing on the Steam a seam lite 2 sheets. do you cut an area out from the paper templates to fit the sheet size. Some pieces are too big or overlap onto to sheets wide. So some would go through the printer but some would be hand traced?
@@QuiltingInTheValley Thank you that makes sense. I will print today, I am excited to get started but anxious too. I have been quilting for 2 years but nothing like this project. Ann
Place the Steam a Seam Lite in your printer paper tray. Place the design you want to copy onto the printer glass, then print. Or.....place the Steam a Seam Lite in your printer paper tray. Send the design you want to print to your printer from your computer. Easy peasey!
You are amazing. I have the turtles. I don’t know if I can do this. After you make each piece, do you put back in a baggie until you assemble the whole project
I keep the sections separate, but not necessarily in a bag after I’ve assembled them. The individual pieces stay in the bags till I’m ready to assemble a section. You ABSOLUTELY can do this!!!
Thank you for the excellent detailed information! Exactly what I was looking for. One question though, during the stitching process, I noticed when you stopped to change areas that you used your machine to tie off and cut. How does that affect the back of your quilt? Do you afterwards turn over and trim each knot that is left by your machine? I’ve got a janome that leaves a slight tail on the back side after “cutting” the thread.
I ordered kits from Toni Whitney and did not receive any fabric in the kits. There was a note on the front that said there is a fabric swatch guide to help choose the correct fabrics, so I am on my own choosing fabrics!
Is it correct, that when appliquéing with the BSR, it does not appear you secure (knot) the starting or ending stitch? Are you concerned about unraveling?
I don’t worry about unraveling, as an art quilt will hang on the wall and not be exposed to washing and use. If it were for a bed quilt, I would bring up my bobbin thread at the beginning and end of each piece and then knot and bury the threads.
I am new at quilting and I am making a toddler size quilt with an owl applique in the center. Don’t think I would try anything as complicated as what you are doing. I would like to ask though, if I may, would it be better to buy the steam-a-seam 2 to applique my owl on a piece of lavender fabric and once bonded on there will it be stiff or pliable? My pattern does not have a ton of parts so should be easy. This quilt will be washed a lot….will my sewing machine needle accumulate glue from this medium or will it be easy to apply, also should I glue on my lavender fabric some cloud like pieces of just leave it alone, it is like a bit of marbled look as is. Thank you so much for a great video.
Hi….it sounds like a cute design! Very creative! If you use the Lite Steam a Seam 2 and follow directions to set it with steam, you should not struggle with build up. It will be ‘firm’-ish at first, but will lighten up as the fabric is manipulated.
I found your video today! So helpful! I bought a pattern with a large scarecrow sittibg on the ground by a fall tree with fall leaves around him. I wasn’t sure hoe to tackle it, now I’m ready to do it! Question, where do I find Steam a Seam Yellow? Is that the color of the packaging? 🤔
No, the packages are mostly blue. The grid in the actual product is yellow. The older product that had a production problem had a blue grid in it. There is not a lot of that around anymore. Lite Steam a Seam II is what you want.
I ordered my steam a seam on line and got the blue lined stuff. Can I still do it with the blue lined stuff? The type I bought is Pellon brand. The yellow lined one is Warm Company.
I’m not familiar with the Pellon type. Is it tacky BEFORE you iron it down? In other words, if you peel the back off and place a piece, will it stay where you put it while allowing you to reposition it easily? Is it thin? If yes to those two questions, then it should work. If I’m doubt, save that for another type of project and buy Steam a Seam Lite for this one!
Toni Whitney kit pieces are often larger than 8-1/2 x 11 using the printer technique. How do you combine printed pattern pieces using the steam a seam before adhering to the fabric. I will need to use 3 sheets to copy 1 page of pattern on to the steam a seam.
I do this all the time! Steam a Seam has no idea if it was one, two, or three pieces once you fuse it. I just tape them together once they are printed. I peel the tape off once I have the pieces placed on the fabric/before I heat set them. (That way the tape doesn’t melt into my iron).
We have been holding off on posting the link for the new light boxes.....because we sold through their entire inventory in June! This lightbox is MUCH less expensive than the one we were using, and the quality is just as good! We are now told that they will be back in stock within two weeks. Hi Susan, Its Gwen form UK. I love watching you, Im new to embroidery and found your amazing video on needles, the best ones to use and why. I normlay save all the videos that I know Im going to need but forgot to save that one. I CANT find it now. Can you please tell me what video its in. Thanks you Gwen
Yup! From Schmetz! Super Non Stick is what they call them. They come in all sizes, but I tend to stick to the 80/12 or 90/14. We have them in stock all the time as we use them so much!
The tweezers I'm using are no longer made:-(.....but we have some coming from OESD that are similar. You need straight tweezers, and needle sharp. The Fusamat I use is from Sharon Bradley from New Zealand. We have a few of hers let in stock, but they are not made anymore. (She embezzled and is now in jail!) Fuse and View from EE Schenck is now manufactured to take the place of the Fusamat.
@@QuiltingInTheValley thank you so much. I understand Precision also makes a fuse/view mat. I will check with my local Bernina for the OESD teeezers. ♡ my Bernina.

Wish I had seen your video before I made that horse head for my son! Thank you so much for this tutorial.
Thank you for your demonstration. I’m starting the fox 🦊 later this week and this was so helpful!

It is 9. X 12 inches. It is called Ultra Thin Portable Light Pad
Scrape a straight pin across the back of the steam a seam then peel off paper
What kind of thread do you change color for every piece
I use Aurifil 50 weight, but you can use any thread you like!
