- This is the second video that chronicles Mike's experience with the Boat he purchased from GovDeals. The motor is a Mud Buddy HD Mini Surface Drive with a 23 HP Briggs Vanguard Engine.
In this episode, we will change the air cord, inspect the broken pull cord, replace the faulty starter solenoid, perform a valve (lash) adjustment, change the oil, install a new kill switch, install a new grip, replace the throttle, check the belt tension, change the oil, perform a lower end lube, which includes removing the prop and bearing cap, and replacing the stock muffler with a Backwater Performance X Lite Muffler.
awesome video, felt like i was with the boys while watching this.
Thanks, Noah!
Wow it actually wanted to idle better with the header installed , before it attacked like it didnt want to idle. Just wished my transom on my 14 ft inflatable would handle the weight of one of these. I am maxed out with a Duromax 18hp 440cc with a sps longtail.
So you kept everything stock except the header correct. I am thinking about giving this a try too
Yes, it was all stock at that time. Since then, he has changed the cam and some other stuff, but i don’t have any video footage of that.
What size prop is that
Crazy but I watched a guy installing a prop isolator on a Yamaha he used either honey or syrup, it would turn to sugar , maybe the same would work on a tiller handle , ?
I’ve got the same motor and trying to put the throttle assembly back together is there any way you could contact me so I could look off of yours and see how everything goes?
I reached out to Mike. I’ll try to get u some pictures.
I’ve got the same motor and was trying to look up an issue I’m having and I don’t quite have the knowledge of just knowing off the top of my head what could be the problem and figured I’d ask someone that knows a little more about these motors than I do if you have the time ?
I’m not super familiar, but there may be somebody else on here that can help. What’s your issue?
So it will crank up and run but after a min or two on the water it wants to sputter and shut off
It sounds like fuel delivery. I imagine that unit has a vacuum operated fuel pump that uses vacuum from the crankcase to pump fuel to the carb. Check all of your vacuum and fuel lines and consider replacing that fuel pump. They do fail over time. The boat in the video is my buddy’s. I’ll look at his the next time i’m at his house.
That’s what it was got all that fixed up, thanks for the advice!
Ha! That’s awesome! Good job!
Great COVID-19 project!
How is the throttle cable hooked up to the throttle
My buddy’s boat…. Here is his reply: It had a standard Briggs cable that had an “S” bend that hooked into a hole on the butterfly lever. It’s completely different now since I got rid of stock carb
When’s the video of it on the water
My buddy, Mike, took it out on its maiden voyage without me. He said it ran great, but had some issues with water coming in over the transom when he let off the throttle.
